Scenic, clean and LOTS of fun options to get off path to explore downtown Spokane or just sit and relax to soak in the beauty. The Sky Lift is worth the ride over the falls downtown.

Great trail running trhough the heart of Spokane. Walk, run, or bike on this wide and celan trail. When we reached Gonzaga University, walked across the bridge to see the beautiful campus. Restrooms were not open in March, but Port o Pots were close to the Visitor Center.

Spokane is the mid point of this trail. You can walk or ride it east to Coeur D'Alene or west to a recreation area. It is paved, quite wide, and stays close to the Spokane River. In the downtown Spokane section, it is well landscaped and has bridges that connect it to Riverfront Park.

This is a beautiful paved trail. It is about 8 foot wide so it's easy to ride around anyone you need to pass. Lots of benches and places to stop.

Beautiful! It’s 40 miles of gorgeous scenery with wildlife ranging from moose to marmots, & it’s fun to walk it downtown by River’s Edge Mall, & all the way out to our hotel, the incomparable Oxford Suites in Spokane Valley, where it’s just outside the hotel on the Spokane River: Gorgeous!

Warm summer day. Lots of people out and it just felt good. Close walk to hotel. Plenty of children bathing in fountain.

Popular venue by the Spokane River, walk, run, bike, and enjoy! Tends to be crowded on weekends. Go early!

Nice shaded trail along the river in downtown Spokane. The best part is going west away from the Gonzaga campus. Length is roughly 3 miles round trip.

We rode parts of the Centennial Trail both East and west of Spokane oh, and all of it was wonderful. The entire trail is composed of different geographic regions, along both sides of the Spokane River running through downtown Spokane and all the way to the Idaho state line. Some of it is flat, the downtown area is very crowded with lots of bridges. The route on the west of downtown is beautiful, but very hilly and only for folks in good condition! The rest of the trail is suitable for even small children or the elderly. This is a great Trail so we highly recommend it, along with the Route of the Coeur d'Alenes and the Route of the Hiawatha in Idaho next door. We drove 300 miles just to bike these three routes!!!

On our visit to Spokane, we used the Centennial Trail quite a bit. We love exploring the cities we visit on foot, and this trail allowed us to walk from our riverside hotel to other parts of the valley, especially the stunning Spokane Falls and beyond. And it's just a few steps from the downtown area, so a visitor doesn't really need to rent a car, take a cab in order to see an awful lot of interesting things. And if you're into jogging, multiply this by 100!

We have done the portion of the trail through town and Gonzaga, where is another stretch that is pretty to bike?

There are lots of pretty areas to ride on the Centennial trail.
One would be to start at Fort Wright Drive (T.J. Meenach Bridge) and head out West where you will travel towards Riverside State Park which is a feel of being out of the city.
Another pretty area is starting at Farr Road and head east where you will follow along the Spokane River where if you get hungry you can stop off at a variety of eateries in the Valley Mall area on Sullivan. Nice way to get a ride and a bite to eat too. Enjoy the ride.

Its a great outdoors area, with lots of good walking an cycling trails. With regards to Sustainable travel, have a think about trains, bus routes and other municipal travel routes.
In london and europe the cities are built around trains, tube and bus routes that make public transport very sustainable.

How far is the airport from this trail? Does it have a specific trail head or can u start at multiple points? Thank you

The airport is west of Spokane about 10 miles.....the trail starts in downtown Spokane and goes to Coeur d' Alene Idaho. If you are staying downtown in Spokane you can walk or bike the trail. Lots of trailheads to start and stop.

I have read that the portion of this trail (including the Idaho portion) on either side of the Washington-Idaho border that runs near Interstate 90 is uncomfortably close to the Interstate. True?
Leslie Davenport

It is close to the interstate but it is not dangerously close where you would have to have a concern.

Renting a bicycle

There are several good places to rent close to the Centennial Trail. They should all include helmets with the rental, as they are legally required in the City of Spokane.
On the north side of the Spokane River in Kendall Yards (where there's free parking): MonkeyBoy Bicycles rents by the day or hour: 509-863-9272
In downtown: Spoke n Sport rents by the day or hour: 509-838-8842
The only one I know of in the Spokane Valley is The Bike Hub. They only rent by the day and are a bit more expensive than those downtown. Have to arrange ahead for children's bikes to be brought from another location. 509-443-4005.

Is the parking on S. Washington Street safe?
Debbie R
Spokane, WA25 bidrag
South Washington St. isn't "the best" part of downtown Spokane, but I've parked here and you are ok, especially during the day. Anywhere you park, though, I would suggest keeping valuables out of sight.

How is the parking that is provided?

There are a few places to park that are right along the trail, the one I am most familiar with is on Barker Rd heading north right before you go over the bridge. There is also places to park in Mirabeau park by the Spokane valley mall that has paces for kids to play and a waterfall.
