We chose this LeMay collection in Tacoma because of Tripadvisor reviews and we are glad we did. My husband, who is a great car enthusiast, saw some vintage cars he had never seen before. All the cars were in great shape, the exhibits were well labeled, and the staff was very informative and friendly. We took the self-guided tour and enjoyed the old school building as well as the collection. It was definitely worth the drive from Seattle.

We hit this museum the next day. There were so many buildings at this site and all the staff were extremely helpful. There were students having their pictures taken with some of the muscle cars. I wish they would have had a book about the LeMays. Their story is so interesting.

What a treasure this museum is. We had the best time. We had a great docent for our guided tour. He was super fun and very knowledgeable. My husband is a retired body mechanic and a true car buff. They had a great time together and I enjoyed looking and learning abt all the cars. They have cars there that my husband had never seen before.
You can't even compare the other Lemay-America's Car Museum, near the Tacoma dome to this one.
Both are great to visit but Marymount is a don't miss.

Really a hidden gem, and in some ways better than the foundation museum with the right package. I did the school tour + car collection. School tour is very personal - just myself and Janet (?) the guide, who is engaging, full of information and quite willing to spend time on a very thorough walk through. Some of this is a WIP and some of it a bit of grandma's attic (Harold's attic, really), but in a most enjoyable way. Take some moments and watch the video to get a sense of the man and his accomplishments. Wish I could have met him - seems like a totally down to earth guy who made good, and then freely enjoyed his hobbies but took care to allow others to enjoy them with him. Family still involved, still uses the place (cool), keeps the memory alive through dedicated employees. It's a warm & fuzzy. Yes, they could use a professional archivist / curator, display person, but the whole effect is charming in the best sense and you should spend time here. On to the cars. There is a collection as part (I believe) of the main school tour and then a secondary large warehouse with many additional displayed and signed. Since I bought two tours I saw everything & not sure where the division was. Occasionally in the main buildings and annex some were put on racks and thus not really accessible but a lot of these were fairly anonymous models (unless you are a big 20's fan and then you'd gnash teeth a little), but most at least reasonably displayed if not full walkaround. You can certainly get closer to a Tucker here than just about anywhere. One sad exception was a Dual-Ghia tucked into a roped off corner - but I'm told that may have been because of an event; usually center display. It's a significant car, deserves more prominence of place. Still, all of this is sort of an appetizer for the main vehicle display warehouse where cars are properly displayed with enough room for multiple angle shots and good signage. Collection bogs down a bit as we get toward present year, but no one it seems is really curating anything past the 60's in terms of everyday vehicles (it's probably time to start - at some point I'd be able to afford assembling that collection but no funds to display it, sigh). Thoroughly enjoyed this piece, you can spend a long time there. The whole complex is worth a good 4 hours if you like both aspects and only hunger or another scheduled event will take you away. LeMay supports the local car community, makes provisions for the former nuns - it's just a boon to the community. One note: do NOT get a docent for the car portion. Guy making the rounds when I was there certainly considered himself quite senior and a font of knowledge (he was 'educating' a group or two while I was there since my visit was rather extended). The amount of misinformation both automotive and historical ()! was staggering. All of it spoken authoritatively. I had to move faster, slower or just away in order to keep from making corrections. My goodness. Stick with the signs or take a car buff.

We have been 2 times and the displays are changed on a regular basis. My husband took the Model T class and actually drove a Model T. He really enjoyed the class.

What a treasure!
We are so fortunate to have this museum in our community!!!The staff and volunteers care so much about helping you feel part of their great work by educating you, and providing a very unique experience. The collection is one of a kind, and you need to go several times to take in all the details. The knowledge of automobile history shared during the tours is exceptional. The access to unique automotive treasures, and a better understanding of their back story is fun. Larry and Tim did a great job of taking the time to explain just the right amount of the story to engage you and keep your interest peeked. I had 2 fabulous tours, both of the cars on site, as well as the adjoining facility tour. The grounds surrounding the museum are very special too so well maintained, lush, green and magnificent. This a treasure our community is lucky to have and get to visit.

This collection of cars is far superior to the America Car museum in Tacoma. Many more cars to see. So much more history, The people offer information to you as you tour. It's much more relaxed and you have all the time you want to look at cars with no one pushing you along.

An amazing place, amazing story, amazing vehicles and well worth the price and appx. 2 or so hours to see all 3 buildings. Our guide was fantastic and we learned about many details on a lot of the vehicles.Learning experience for sure, and makes you wish you had built your Garage just a little bit bigger..!!
Although it was pouring rain the day we went,it really wasnt too cold or damp in the outer buildings, and except for a short walk to them, stayed dry and comfortable...but sure it would be an even better experience if it was nice out and you could wander the grounds.

We've been wanting to go to the museum but decided to go to this location first. What a gem. There is more than just cars. There are trucks, fire trucks, military, RV's, buses, oil and gas and wide variety of other collections. We really liked the collection of old outboard motors. There are lots of vehicles that are still in need of restoration and as we were told by the docent that they are still buying. Part of the collection is self guided other parts are guided. We had a very knowledgeable docent that gave us a lot of interesting tidbits. Can't wait to go back!

Much larger without the kiddie stuff. Ask for a docent that knows cars. Ours was pathetic. The large exhibits we visited on our own made up for it. Could be I am too picky as I expect guides to really know the subject. Sad sad sad. But the enormity of the collection is one of a kind.
