We had an amazing time with Josh as our guide!! We went after a big storm so the mud we went through were more like little ponds but it was the best time! I 100% recommend doing this!! We loved it!

Outstanding views, wonderful camping where wildlife roam freely.
You van hike, camp fish and visit museums onsite. There is an amphitheater where they have plays and music.

The bridge itself is a building feat like no other. Completed in 1977, and taller than the Washington Monument, this is a spectacular engineering spectacle. We drove across this tall expansion bridge and marveled at its beauty. There is actually steps to walk you down to the bottom and take pictures from the bottom up and view the engineering marvel. One of the largest bridges in the western hemisphere.

The bridge is phenomenal, but the nature, trails, and surrounding areas extend the experience. Be sure to go to the visitors’ center and ask about trails, the old mining town, and other areas. The experiences are spread out, so plan before you go to other areas. There is a store across the street from the visitors’ center where you can get some snacks and water (we didn’t see other stores as we went to the old mining town, overlooks…). Fayetteville is a great little town for meals and some light shopping that is close as well.

This is the largest single arch bridge in the northern hemisphere and it is quite impressive to see. You must drive over the bridge to the visitor center (driving over it was not as impressive as seeing it) where you take a short walk down a path to see the bridge. Once there you can go down even further to get a better look, but you will need to walk back up a number of steps, but for us it was worth it. You can also catch some trail heads from this location. Nature, architecture, and engineering at its best.

We recently visited New River Gorge in West Virginia. It’s definitely worth the trip. The visitors center was nice though crowded with a short boardwalk to a view of the bridge. Then we went to the trail head of the Long Point trail. It is a 3.2 mile round trip hike. Very shaded and well maintained. BUT the last 1/3 mile is not for the weak.. it is a rocky, densely follage 2 ft wide downward decent. When you see the bike rack it only gets worse. Wear good shoes, and take bottle water. The view is worth it but then you have to get back out. It’s tough if not in good shape. This was my first experience after a big weight loss.
Be realistic on your hiking expectation. Round trip took 2 hours.

The views are unbeatable. You can spend as much or as little time at the park as you choose. You drive across the bridge to get into the park. Once you've parked at the visitor's center you are a short walk away from the bridge viewing. If you enjoy hiking etc... there are lots of trails. You can spend all day there, or just enjoy the views and leave.

We were crossing Virginia and West Virginia off our motorcycle ride states this year and added a day up to the New River Gorge Bridge to the trip. Riding over the bridge isn't so exciting, but riding under the bridge was awesome after stopping at the visitors center. Under the bridge you get some really cool views of the bridge a few times. On a super curvy and narrow road (without much traffic).

This bridge is so iconic, one of America's great bridges. But the setting is also beautiful. Seen from the river, it's so gorgeous. It's amazing how tall it is.

We were headed to Tennessee and drove by a sign advertising the gorge so we had to stop! So glad we did. The views are absolutely beautiful! We did not hike down to the bottom as it was raining out. Check out the little shop while you are there and get some info about the gorge.

How do you get to vantage points from which to view the bridge?
Skrevet 6. april 2022
You can see it from a walkway and overlook near the visitor center. And if you want to drive down underneath, you can take the one way road - Fayette Station Road. I highly recommend that.
Skrevet 28. april 2022
If you drive from Fayetteville to the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, do you go over the bridge?
Skrevet 7. april 2021
In light if the covid19 health crisis, is the national park open? If it's not open when we come through the area in late June, is the bridge & road still open? Is there a tentative date, or phase during which the park will relpen?

I hear that during a weekend in October, that you are allowed to parachute off the bridge, base jump. Is this thru a company. Does anyone know anything about this. Thanks...
Skrevet 21. oktober 2018
It was this past Saturday; it’s always the 3rd Saturday in October. Mostly it seems to be through clubs, and there is some type of raffle to determine what “spot” you get on the bridge. You go as many times as you can get down and get back on the bridge. That’s what our tour guide explained when we did the bridge walk.

Is the overlook wheelchair friendly?
Skrevet 30. september 2018
I believe that it is, but it is best to call the national Park service in the area to be sure. I do know that you can see the gorge from inside the visitor center.

The Kaymoor Miner’s Trail is a very strenuous trail. There are 800 steps down and 800 steps back up. There are so many trails in the area that have awesome views. Consider the Endless Wall trail or Long Point Trail. The Bridge Trail off of Fayette Station Rd allows you to walk to and under the New River Gorge Bridge. All of these trails allow you to walk up, down and around the gorge. Have fun!

Is this a good choice for senior citizens who can't walk too far.
Skrevet 27. juli 2017
There are two walking paths down. The better one is a boardwalk style staircase that takes you to a viewing location. It is fairly strenuous, but does have resting stations along the way. There is also a paved path that is pretty gentle. it is much easier. If you want really easy access to the views of the bridge. you can drive to the bottom. We did all three on our visit to the bridge. The best views of the bridge were on the drive. Over all,the best views of the river were on the boardwalk path. So if you want some nice views of the bridge take the driving tour. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour and you will see small water falls and rapids as well.

Is it possible to park and view the bridge outside of visitor center hours? I'm afraid it will be closed when we come through
Skrevet 28. oktober 2016
Yes. We went down into the gorge. The view from down there is awesome
