Phenomenal experience doing the Upper Gauley. Brian and Jason were our guides; we could not have asked for better company. We felt safe throughout, and they really helped us learn to navigate the rapids. Great experience, highly recommend this river and this company.

Really regret booking with this company. Absolutely terrible. Do not support them. They were rude and liars. We were taken in by the great reviews but should have been warned when the person i booked with on the phone was rude already. Okay, fine, whatever.. It was a freezing torrential downpour on the day of our booking. We asked to reschedule, they said nope. After talking they finally said we can if we play a $120!! Rebooking fee. Why? They said they have already packed our lunches. Oh no.. My $2 sandwich from the grocery store will go to waste.. They also claimed they had sent 100 people down the river already that day, but later the guides told us we were the only boats out. Speaking of guides, our guide told us he was paid so little that he had to spend half a years salary on a wetsuit. Once we were on the water, we discovered another lie.. They said water time was 4 to 5 hrs, we were only on the river for 1.5 hrs. In the middle we pulled over to eat some soggy sandwiches.. Poor planning, we should have been given lunch later in the office where it was dry. Finally we got on shore and waited 30 minutes for the bus to arrive in the rain. The river itself was fun and the guides were nice but the company did what it could to ruin the experience. We googled Ace rafting which has cheaper prices and a better cancelation policy, and I'm sure there are others too. Don't make the same mistake we did.

Great experience, would highly recommend! Have used this company 2 other times before most recent trip and all have been fantastic. Guides previously have been great, and the 2 guides I had over the weekend, Jason and Brian, were among the best. Highly recommend both, Jason seemed a little more technically sound and Brian seems a little more talkative and entertaining, but would definitely do this trip again with either guide.

We had a blast on the Lower New River trip. Brantley was a great guide, fun and competent and the group size was not too big. I highly recommend this outfitter.

A most excellent rafting experience with the most knowledgeable and professional guides on the river that also know how to have fun. I was looking into a bunch of different companies to choose from and figured this one was more of a "ma & pa" type owned company and less "corporate" which is exactly what I got. Yes, they are not pristine buildings with a mindset on taking your every dollar, but better an old school looking grounds (but very well kept) that provides everything you need. The guides on our Upper Gauley trip seem to be very well respected amongst the other rafters / kayakers and it showed as they navigated around the obstacles and as we watched other companies get stuck on novice obstacles.

This is our third visit going through New & Gauley River Adventures. We had Brantley he was an amazing guide, kept us entertained, was knowledgeable about the area but most importantly kept us safe. We had an amazing time, plus we love they are a small business.

We have rafted before with two other companies. We did the Full Day Marathon Run. We felt this company was not the best, to say the least! To begin with we did enjoy the rafting. What we didn’t like was the people in our boat as well as the guides who were some of the most vulgar mouthed people we have ever heard in our 63 years. EVERY sentence had the F bomb in it. Even the guides were trying to entertain us with some of the most vulgar jokes you can imagine. Then they started making fun of a boat that had Christians in it. Not very professional to say the least. We also realized this company eats lunch at Sweet’s Falls on a rugged cliff. One woman twisted her ankle just trying to get to where lunch was being served. However across the water Ace was having their lunch on a wooden platform. We quickly realized that the company we were with was not what we wanted in the future. Spending this kind of money (right at$500) we expected better.

This was my 2nd trip with them and my husband's 3rd. We went with friends this year to fill a raft of 8. Just went on opening weekend for Gauley Days and are already planning a trip for next year! This is a great outfitter! It's the only family-owned one left in the area. We love to support that!! Our guide was Reed. He's awesome...right on!! We did the Reverse Gauley. Was sooo much fun! The scenery is beautiful (when the water isn't hitting you in the face...lol). We enjoyed every aspect of our trip! You can NOT go wrong booking a trip with them. We bought the photo package and the HUGE smiles on our faces says it all.

Wow! Amazing two days on the lower and upper Gauley. Scotty Scaggs was our guide and the leader of our trip. The guy is the real deal. He, Reed and the other guides know this entire river like the back of their hands. They went out of their way to ensure we had an awesome time, while making us feel safe through both runs. The lunch spots were cool and the food was good. PBR’s on the bus ride home were a pleasant surprise!

Excellent at home feel, you gain friendships with staff and guides. Very welcoming. Highly recommended. This is a private owned and operated company. Unlike the other companies around the area. The bigger companies do not have the personal experience compared to this lovely establishment. Our guide ,Reed, was like a Shepard guiding his little sheep through the running rapids of the Gauley. We went opening weekend and had the best of times. Honorable Mentions go to Georgie boy and Scott. I wish I Could remember the others names.
The lasagna was some of the greatest tasting lasagna I have ever had. On the lunches they had some bomb diggitity seven layer dip.
I say take advantage of this diamond in the rough waters of the Gauley.

How difficult are the rapids if you go in June? Looking at Lower New River

Rafted on 6/10. It is not difficult. Thrilling, but not dangerous since the guides judge your groups’ skill level. My 10 years old daughter really wanted to be in the front. Our guide let her ride there through the first good rapid. She was thrown out. From then on, she was happy to sit in the rear near our guide.

You can buy some around the corner. You can also scavenge kindling on site.
