We hiked this on a Monday morning in October after a few days of moderate rain from Hurricane Ian. The day we hiked was partly sunny but the trail was still pretty muddy and slick in spots, so trekking poles are not a bad idea. We parked in the Fern Creek parking area and did this as an out-and-back to Diamond Overlook and back. You can do a loop if you want but we wanted to avoid walking the road at the end.
From parking lot to Diamond Overlook was 1.3 miles according to my watch and 279 feet of elevation gain. The trail is very rocky in many areas, including some pretty big rocks to climb up or down. Overall it was not a busy trail; we just saw a handful of other people but I know on weekends it gets busier.
Diamond Overlook is very well-signed so make sure if that's your goal that you keep going until you see the sign (there are some earlier viewpoints that are nice but not as breathtaking as this one is). Lots of space to take pictures once you're at the viewpoint. Just stunning views. We were able to hike back down in half the time as going out. Taking our time, including stopping for photos and stopping to talk with some hikers en route, we did the hike in 2 hours.

Trails are well maintained and open up into intoxicating views of the mountains, cliffs, trees, rail road and river. Everyone you meet on the trail is nice.

This was a pretty easy hike and there are multiple overlooks with panoramic views of the bridge, river and gorge. There are some drastic drop off points so be careful when taking in the view.

Highly recommend hiking the 1 mile Endless Wall Trail to Diamond Overlook and then turning around and coming back. Otherwise, if you complete the Endless Wall Trail, you'll end at a different parking lot. Multiple rocks along the trail that provide overlooks to the river and gorge. Beautiful!! Easy hike.

Very nice trail (Minus the mud) and the views from Diamond Point are incredible. Parking is a pain in the but as we hiled a busy Saturday. My advice is to start at the first trail head walk the trail to the second trail head and then walk the road back as it it less that a half mile by road for a total hike of around 2.85 miles according to my watch

Breathtaking sights!!! Well cleared paths. This trail is best for someone who can physically hike. Not a gravel walking path. Even in the rain it was an amazing hike. All cliffs are open, no rails. This is important to note if hiking with little ones.

This is an easy hike and has beautiful views of the Gorge!!! Be careful though, we saw a Copperhead sunning on a rock where we were hiking.

The entry along the small creek and bridge were beautiful. The hike was fairly easy with a very cool view. We hiked back the way we came to not have to hike the road. it was cool to see the different rock climbing set ups as well.

Our water rafting guide suggested this hike and it did not disappoint. Facilities in the parking lot. Hiking path is clearly marked. Hike is about 2.5 miles round trip and moderate. Views are amazing. I recommend starting in the evening to see the sunset at Diamond Point.

The main trail does not go right along the cliff edge. There are paths that branch off the main trail that you can go on to look at the cliff edited.

I seen a website that said the road was very narrow. Is it wide enough for cars to pass?

If you are coming from the visitor center, there are 2 ways to get to the endless wall trailhead. Get on to the highway 19 and then 82, you will have no problem. The other way is via Lansing Loop onto 82. That is pretty much one lane road with 2 way traffic.

How strenuous is the ladder system? Is it hard to follow if you take one set down and the other back up? Will you miss diamond point if you do this?

I hike so many trails. I did climd down the ladder and i also saw diamond point. I May have gone two separate directions. Either way it was not a long hike. Views are breathtaking! This was one of my favorite road trips!

Can you come here in the winter?

Yes u can. Much of the upper trail is safe. You can choose to venture over to the scenic cliff side views which I would be cautious of in the snow/ice
How far is this from Huntington wv

I'm not sure but if you use google maps and just type in endless wall trail Fayetteville wv it comes up on mine! If you're going north on 19 it would be a right hand turn onto Lansing Edmond road (left hand turn if coming south) and they have signs on your right for the trail head out that road.

My husband and I will be traveling with two small dogs on leashes. Is this trail pet friendly?

Any Beach17 934 bidrag
Yes it is pet friendly. We saw many on leashes the day we hiked. It is a little over 2 mile hike with a few rocks and roots to navigate so make sure they are fit to do it. And maybe bring a bowl for water when you finish.
IS there any fees associated with this trail
beachlady3
Any Beach17 934 bidrag
It most definitely is a part of the National Park Service, but there are no fees to hike any of the trails there.
