This state park is busier than Newport State Park. More traffic and more people. Watch for bicycle riders. It is a beautiful park. The rebuilt Eagle Bluff Tower offers spectacular views of the Green Bay. You can climb the many steps to the top, or you can walk up the handicapped accessible ramp to the top. You should definitely get to the top of the tower! After climbing the tower, we walked part of the Sentinel Trail, which was a nice walk through the woods, with informational signs along the way about the trees and the forest. Nicolet Beach is a nice swimming beach area with a playground, benches and picnic tables, a little store/snack shop and bathrooms. There is plenty of parking in this area. You should be sure to make your way to the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in the park. Tours of the lighthouse are available, and there is a nice view of the Green Bay here. As you drive along Shore Road, watch for pull outs where you can sit on benches and just enjoy being on the lake shore, watching the world go by. There are campgrounds in this park, but we were just day trippers.

Beautiful state park with a lot to see and explore! You can bike, hike, swim or just take a slow drive through the park to take it all in!
Definitely take time to go see the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse and then the Eagle Bluff Tower III; which was recently rebuilt in 2021. Take the 100 step walk up or the walking ramp which takes you to the top with breathtaking views of the peninsula where you can see for miles and miles.
Continue through the park to the quaint but hopping town of Ephraim where you will find a beautiful public beach, shops and places to dine.

It was a bit to early in mid September to see the changing colors of the leaves but the park was beautiful. We walked a number of trails, they were well marked and told you have far each trail was and the difficulty level. Would go back again.

We took the Door County Trolley through the park and got a terrific tour from John, our driver. Given that there’s an admission fee, I would recommend the trolley for an overview of this large park. It is clearly the loveliest of the peninsula’s parks and in prime real estate between Fish Creek and Ephraim, two of the loveliest villages.

The Peninsula State Park is a joy to travel through all the wonderful trees & colour.
They have plenty of camp sites, with power
& many more there you put up your tent.( no power ) From hiking trails, bike riding to golf this park has it all plus the views are amazing. Make sure you take in the view from Eagles tower overlooking Green Bay, the tower has wheelchair ramps & steps.
Amazing area wonderful park with natural beauty.

Great biking and hiking and golf….Have done all three but this time we hiked. Must do Eagle Trail (2 mi/difficult)! Gorgeous vistas and enough difficulty to require sturdy shoes (take your hiking boots). Also climb Eagle Tower. Beautiful views ❤️ but no eagles this time 🦅

Thanks to the locals for pitching in fundraising. The wheelchair ramp we heard was a big vote on whether to take down so many trees to make accessible. You never know when one could need that. Be sure to pay for your sticker and stop at Eagle Tower.

This is a beautiful park with a great variety of activities. It's got a lot of hiking trails. It's got a handicap accessible viewing tower that seems to be the tallest structure in the county. It's got a swimming beach with picnic tables, a playground, restrooms and parking. And it has a great lighthouse. Not to mention a golf course and a nature center. I can't think of any other state park in Wisconsin or Minnesota that has so much going for it. But the road signage is a little confusing. At least one trail is not described correctly. There is also not a lot of drinking water available, at least where we were. At the nature center, we were told that the park was in the process of replacing water fountains but hadn't completed the work yet. So bring a lot just in case.
The trail I previously mentioned is accessible by walking down the hill on the Eagle Trail, which is described as difficult. At the base, you can go left and walk the Minnehaha, which is described as easy. So you have to walk the Eagle Trail before you get to the Minnehaha Trail. The first part of your walk requires mountain goat type abilities. The trail is full of rocks and tree roots, made more difficult by the incline. But after that, it's a beautiful trail with easy access to a stony beach. Unfortunately, this trail is not a loop. It ends at Shore Road. When we looked across the road, there were two other trails not too far apart. However, they were not on the park map. The trail that we wanted to walk (Lone Pine) was not to be found. We saw a sign that directed us to water, we followed it and found the remains of a water fountain that was completely unusable. So we had two choices: walk back the way we came, or walk on the side of the road with no protection from cars. We chose the latter and made it back safely.
In conclusion, I'd check the park map with a park ranger before setting out on a walk and bring plenty of water.

Loved Peninsula State Park. We drove through at sunset and got the most awesome sunset picture over Lake Michigan. We also enjoyed the overlook! The ramp climb easier than the steps!

How difficult is the sunset trail on bike? We are relatively beginner bike riders and are thinking of doing this ride. Thanks!

Peninsula has numerous bike trails. A park map will help you understand which is best for you in terms of number if miles and difficulty. Some are exclusively through the woods on trails while others also go on roads. I can’t remember the names of all the trails but would suggest you stay in the Forest since those trails have fewer hills than the trails on the roads. Hope that helps!

My family and I are heading up the last week of June, we are new to kayaking and curious if the area is easy or dangerous? Any tips would be welcome.

Where is the entrance for driving?
Heidi aka: Goodie Bandit

Are you asking about the main entrance? Its in Fish creek city, on the left side...Look for JULEES CAFE at the foot of entrance ( it has a GIANT PURPLE chair) The fee is around $8 for the day. The exit is all the way around the park ( it makes a circle drive ) near the golf course...then down the hill is the net town of Ephrium. GOOD LUCK and have fun!!!

Does anyone know if the state park has bike rentals? Or maybe somewhere else in Fish Creek that has bike rentals?
Wendy F
Ixonia, WI43 bidrag
There are two places for Bike rentals. One across the street from the entrance called Nor Door Sports & Cyclery which We have rented from before & have no complaints. There is also one called Edge of Park Rentals as you go in the main entrance to your right have never rented from them.

Is there a fee to enter or go to beach.

Google "Wisconsin state park admission fees" and you'll get a chart listing various fees. A lot depends on whether or not you are a Wisconsin resident, if you're going for only 1 day, if you want to purchase an annual sticker, etc.

We are planning on camping at Peninsula in September. Haven't been there in 20 years. We have a 30 foot trailer. Any recommendations on which campground we should stay at? There are a handful of sites in the South Nicolet Bay campground and quite a few available in the Tennison Bay campground.

How hard is it to get a camping site designated at first come? I would hate to drive there and have nowhere to stay. If you go on a Friday, what time should you plan to be there?
Robert W
Park Ridge, IL3 121 bidrag
I do not know conclusively, but I know that Friday and Saturday are the most crowded evenings at any of the five state parks in Door County. They are also the most crowded nights at the hotels and bed-and-breakfasts. You might have to camp outside of Door County and drive there (say 45 min to 1.5 hours away) in the day. Same with hotel stays. I think Peninsula St Pk and Newport St Pk allow reservations to be made online ahead of arrival.
