This beach was very laid back and relaxing. Pretty expensive if you are not a resident or if you do not have a pass. There is a good amount of grassy area if you do not want to sit on the sand. Lifeguards and staff seem to be attentive.

We visited this quaint, uncrowded beach during my 60th Birthday celebration. Since it is the COVID-19-Era, and slightly "off-season" there were only a few sunbathers around. We loved it. It's a short walk from the Abbey Resort. Close to places to eat and the docks.

The beach was well kept. Shallow water is rocky, so water shoes would be a good suggestion. Lifeguard was attentive and appeared to be interested in doing a good job. What I really liked about this beach was the amount of green space behind the sandy beach. I’m not used to paying for beach entrance, so that was odd for me

My husband and I went to this beach over fourth of July weekend, hoping to avoid the crowds at Lake Geneva Public Beach. They were charging $100 PER PERSON for entrance to the beach. This was later in the afternoon (about 3pm) and they were continuing to charge this the entire day even into the evening. The beach itself looked nice and clean.
While I understand this is a quieter, more secluded beach and given the current social distancing guidelines, I originally thought this was being done as a safety precaution. Unfortunately there was no mention of this being a safety precaution, it was merely to restrict visitors to the beaching, leaving only residents access without the hefty fee. We ended up just stopping at a bar for food nearby - didn't get to even step foot on the beach.
This was very disappointing as tourists because we had been supporting the local economy by visiting the restaurants, bars, and hotels in the area. We would not have minded paying a small fee to enter, but $100 was absurd. We will not be making any future visits to the city, or especially this particular beach again in the future.
Hoping this post saves some other visitors time next time they plan on visiting this beach during a holiday weekend - cut your losses and don't visit this beach!

Great beach area, and parking close by. Also near several fun beachfront diners -- Chuck's and Gordy's. There's a charge for using the beach, but nice to avoid crowds in Lake Geneva. Right now (July 2020) the beach is open only to Fontana residents and pass holders. Need to check on current status due to Covid.

On day two of our trip, we decide to explore the area around Fontana. Compared to Riviera beach, there seemed to be a lot less commercial space around the area.
The beach itself seemed quite a bit larger then the beach at Riviera.
Unfortunately, the location is limited to residents or annual pass holders we weren't able to explore the area. Obviously, there were a limited number of people due to the restriction - I am not sure how the beach would be on a normal basis.
The bathrooms are located right next to the beach which gives it easy access.

This beach is so clean and has great bathrooms. The kids love it and it's close to The Abbey. The sand hill and jumping off the pier is lots of fun.

Just a twenty minute drive from Lake Geneva and SO worth it. I feel like I shouldn’t even be sharing the secret.. the beach at Lake Geneva is packed and dirty. Fontana beach was raked and clean. It was like 70 and partly cloudy, so maybe that’s why we had no issue with parking or crowd. Sure, admission is $10/adult.. just plan to be there all day! Wear water shoes, there are smooth rocks at shore.

Admission is full price even after 6pm. $10 Adults, $5 kids
When I was a kid it was free after 6 -- that was in the 80's.
Some idiot burned down the gate-house and when they rebuilt it they revoked the free-after-6 rule. No life-guards after 6 so swim at your own risk.
Parking used to be free too -- now the parking lot is metered.
If it weren't for those two issues I would rate this beach as Very Good.
I have lots of great memories at this beach though. I especially loved the pier where I used to dive into the water. The water comes to your waist when you get to the pier ladder -- which is 30' from shore. The pier is 80' long and used to have a diving board at the end. I don't know if the diving board is still there or not.
The beach is sand but rocky when you get to the water. once you get into the water there's more sand than rock. Some people found it uncomfortable. There is only 600' of shore. There is a sand volleyball net in the grassy area. The entire beach is fenced off. Dogs are not allowed -- there's another beach just 100' further where dogs are allowed.

Didn't think it was worth $10/adult. $5kids. rocky sand, needs water shoes. clean, nice beach, also has grass area for seating. People bring in large picnic coolers. It wasn't crowded, it was pleasant. But we enjoyed on the lake activities better that the beach.

I've never seen pets at Fontana Beach, so do not believe they are allowed.

Is there any grills in the picnic area? What are the hours for today?

I did not see any grills at the beach, but there are grills in the adjacent park, just a short distance away. I believe they open at 9am. You won't be disappointed.

Someone mentioned the beach was sandy but once in the water it is very rocky. Is that true? Only one Post said this..

It is sandy for a little ways and then rocks, mostly small pebble-ish. Nothing serious. I like Fontana but prefer Williams Bay. Also I have a parking sticker for all Wisconsin state parks, $38 from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources so with that I park and don't pay anything to swim at Big Foot Beach on Lake Geneva, that is where we put our kayak in at as well. If you drive out on a Saturday, make sure you stop at the Woodstock Farmers Market on the Historic Woodstock Square and pick up some fresh locally grown yummies for your picnic cooler. Enjoy!
