We were visiting Lander for a wedding. One of our group was checking our hikes online and found the Popo Aggie Falls Trail and natural water slide. It was a very nice hike. It wasn’t too hard and there were not very many people at all. The water falls and views were all so beautiful. I have seen prettier falls but those were also busy. We only saw a handful of people on this hike. We made sue to hike to the natural water slide and took a slide ourselves. It was fun but the water was very cold. Felt nice to cool off but don’t stay in long.

The waterfalls were beautiful. A lot of it was in the distance. It was worth the hike. The aspens were just starting to turn when I was there. At the right time this hike would be breath taking

Fun hike up to a series of waterfalls. It is impossible to get all the falls in one photo shot so the photos you may see online don't serve justice for this incredible cascade. The trail has no shade and in July it was pretty hot. Where a hat, sunscreen and bring water. We were alarmed by the number of people that were hiking without any water and they looked rather haggard up at the top. In these conditions the hike seemed a bit much for young children but if they are used to moderately steep unshaded uphill hikes than maybe they would be ok.

This is a beautiful hike, not too long and not too arduous. I do suggest you take water and watch for snakes.

Popo Agie trail travels along the river at the Middle Fork Falls as it cascades through rock formations and drops through Sinks Canyon. The views of forest, falls, river, and desert is worth the effort of the mild climb hike. There are two pools near the top that allow for swimming and safe immersion. The water is soft! - we were too chicken to do full immersion because it was cold but we observed a brave couple of souls who really enjoyed the slide into the pool along a steep smooth rock. Bring bear spray, sing or talk loudly as the black bears are apparently out right now. You need a good hiking boot, water, sunscreen., and our gps showed closer to 2miles in one direction with the overlook diversions- 660ft elevation gain. . There are several trail heads along the road but this length begins at Bruces Parking Lot - cross the road to the trail head footbridge and kiosk.

About 600 feet of elevation gain over about 1 1/2 miles. If you're from lower elevations, be ready. The trail stays within sight of the river the whole way to the fabulous view of the falls. Plan on three or more hours. This time of year many plants are blooming.

We hike a lot all over the west & Popa Agia falls trail is now on our top 5 list. This trail is about 4 miles out & back and winds along the river and up to the falls. The views of the multiple falls are spectacular.
Wear a swim suit & bring a towel because you won't want to miss the slide into the falls for a 25ft drop into invigorating river water. It will take momentarily your breath away but you'll be glad you tried it and even May go back for another shot! On a warm day, you'll be dry by the time you get back to the car.

Is it possible to backpacking and camp in this area? Is a back country permit required and if so, how does one obtain it? Thank you
