We had a nice walk around the Lava Tree State Park. The lava trees are interesting, but not something you should drive a long way for. However, if you like nature parks, this is the right place for you.

Great little park if you're going to drive down to Pahoa for the day quick recommendation do not stay in Pahoa It's not a good area but to come to this park for a couple of hours is a very good idea. Nice little parking lot, You can do the walk really fast in about 20 or 25 minutes You can do it slow in about 45 minutes which I recommend, It's incredibly beautiful and of course it shows some lava statues and there's some nice pleasant areas for pictures and to also sit down It's very lush green a lot of beautiful flowers there.... But I highly recommend not staying in the area as far as don't stay at a retreat center or a hotel in Pahoa, Very bad vibes in Pahoa, But this park is very nice.

We didn’t go to this park, but we drove to a dead end very nearby and walked the old street up to the lava flow that took over Leilani Estates in 2018. It was remarkable to see how much lava came through a neighborhood — sobering to be on the street that is no longer in use because of the lava. I’ve been to the island several times and this brought another level of reality to the destruction lava causes.
Be careful if you walk through, because air pockets of lava could easily break through. We didn’t go into the lava field much but Just walked through the streets for this reason.
If you continue to drive the area be respectful of the people still living there. This is their home. Mahalo!

A pretty cool Quico pit stop if you’re already in the area. The walk is very easy and accessible, plentiful parking. Lots of pretty birds.

The park wasn't bad, but it's in a higher crime area and we had our window smashed in and had many items stolen, while walking around the park

Off the beaten path and secluded park to take a walk about. Interesting lava ‘statues’ where the lava enveloped trees. I wouldn’t go out of my way but since we were in the region wandering around, it was a good diversion

The park isn't much but continue on the drive past the park for a cool experience driving through lava. The park itself is maybe a 15 minute walk/experience.

This state park is located a short distance from downtown Pahoa.
Within this state park is the Lava Trees Loop Trail, about a ¾ mile improved loop trail that starts from the parking lot. However, the concrete can be deranged in places because of the living tree roots lifting the concrete.
The trail allows you to walk among these volcanic features that were left behind from the 1790 eruption.
All this is encapsulated in a tropical rainforest setting with a wide variety of native flora.
There is one large cabana that has a bar-b-que grill and a couple of other locations that have a covered area to provide respite from the sun, rain or as a place to just sit, relax and reflect.
There is no water available at this location so bring your own to keep hydrated.
An improved restroom is located adjacent to the parking lot. The parking lot has approximately 15 spaces including one handicapped.

Petrified tree trunks that were encapsulated in lava in the 17th/18th century.
A narrow cement path leads you around a field of the trees, surrounded by the island fauna taking back after the lava beneath hit reset.
Small pockets can be seen around the bases of some of the lava trees. Apparently, not far beneath, lava is there!
There are about 3 or 4 covered spaces around the park to sit, observe, and meditate.
A delight!

I guess it’s a matter of expectations vs. reality, but I really oversold this to my family. It sounded like an interesting way to view the impact of a past eruption; however, there is really not much to see other than decaying mounds of “lava tree.” It was pouring rain when we arrived, so admittedly that didn’t help/
