I liked the show very much. They food, not great. The show told a great story and was done really well. I food was pretty average. Pork was good and tender. Teriyaki chicken had good flavor. The sides I didn't really care for and the desserts were pretty bland.

Very Professional Show, Lousy Food, Too Many People, Limited Drink Offers. Huge Venue. I would not recommend it if you don't like big crowds. You sit at a table with lots of people. Stand in line to use the restrooms. The show was very well done with a nice history of Hawaii, talented actors, the guy with the fire sticks was awesome. The buffet was limited and the food was not very tasty. Even the desserts were a disappointment. The plantation train, however, was great fun.

Something different to do for all ages.
Performance was top notch especially the fire torch tossing. That was amazing. Reading playbill helps to follow story line. Keep expectations low for buffet, mostly average. The fish was better than the pig. But not memorable. The drinks.... strong & very good! Overall, the experience was worth the cost.

Gaylord’s is a very good restaurant and the show was interesting. Run away from the combo. The 4 course dinner started off with philo shrimp or lumpia. The shrimp was very good. The "lumpia" was that of an egg roll you would find at a bad Chinese restaurant. It wasn't
vegetable lumpia, fresh lumpia, Shanghai lumpia, whatever the one made with ground beef with chestnuts and green onions, etc. My wife said it definitely was not lumpia. Believe me. She would know. Next was a garden or caprese salad. We all got the caprese. It was actually good. The main was "fresh catch" ot hoisin glazed spareribs. Well, salmon was the "fresh catch". There's no salmon swimming off the coast of Kaua'i. The normal diners were offered mongchong, a very tasty fish. I don’t like salmon, so ribs it was. The ribs were drizzled with hoisin. It was not very good and about what you'd expect as an appetizer. My wife got the salmon. It was cooked nicely. Dessert was banana cream pie or profiteroles. We all got the profiteroles. It was just okay, although the ice cream portion was good. If I were to have never gone to Gaylord’s before this, I would never consider going back based on this experience.
Now the show. It was a theatrical performance with a story line. It was entertaining. The performers were enjoyable to watch. I was expecting the "normal" experience, where there's less theatrics and more of a back story for the various pacific island dances. The venue was weird. It was like a circus tent, but it didn't distract from the production.
The reason for the low rating? Well, this was not an inexpensive package. It was close to $700 for three people. The dinner was subpar. People would be better off eating at Gaylord’s separately one night and doing the luau a different night.

As the Emcee pronounced, this is not your father’s luau. Very true. The show itself is a very slick production that is as much Broadway as it is Hawaiian. That’s to say, it is a theatrical production of a story. And it has the fire knife and flaming poi balls finale.
The facility is quite large, open air, and under a combination of a large tent and some lanai roofs. We’d guess it holds 400-500 total guests, mostly at tables for 10. The stage is in the center. We paid for the “gold package”, which got us a front row table. We recommend the upgrade. Some of the tables, presumably at lower price points, are a fair distance from the stage.
We give the show an “A”. Excellent performers, well-rehearsed and choreographed, lots of action, and an engaging story.
While we appreciate that few would go to the luau show for the food, we owe transparency on the subject. First, not much “Hawaiian” food there—Kaluha pork, and lomilomi salmon. The rest was American buffet fodder—macaroni salad, rice, teriyaki chicken, zucchini, basic lettuce salad. No poi, which we admit, many don’t care for…yet if you don’t try it at a luau, then where else? Think any chain buffet in the states, with an open bar (two beer varieties, basic wine, mai tai, blue Hawaiian).
Just as a heads up, parking takes about an hour to clear out. A function of the number of cars and traffic light at the entrance.
In sum, we doubt there’s a better luau show out there, and have minimal expectations of the food. It’s a fun, one-time night out.

This luau had great entertainment but the food was average and a very limited selection of alcoholic drinks. It was in a huge pavilion and everyone is called up to the buffet line by table. If you want a more intimate, traditional luau where you actually see them lift the pig out of the imu then you should book somewhere else. My first choice was the Smith family luau but they were booked.

Enjoyed the train ride around the plantation (even though you had to pay extra) and the entertainment, but the food was not the best and what was good was not left out long enough for seconds. It cost my family of 4 $710. Not worth it.

My kid are picky eaters so not sure about getting the buffet dinner. If we arrive for just the show are we able to visit the vendors beforehand? The only show option is at 7:00 but would like to shop beforehand.

My teenage daughter is an extremely picky eater- not much beyond chicken fingers. She is also allergic to peanuts, treenuts, and shellfish. She also does not eat any seafood. Is this worth it for her?

The dance part is pretty nice. I am not sure about her allergies. I don’t have allergic kids, but I would be weary about the food.

So they do anything special to celebrate birthdays?

Yes and they also announce anniversarys, and newly weds. They have a special singing of the Hawaiian Wedding Song where you can come up on the stage and dance during the song.

I bought all the tickets. The seats were assigned when we checked in. I am not sure if they assigned before and just told me when I checked in or they did it on the spot.

We skipped the food as well and went out to dinner before the show. The food looked good.

Is it really loud? Wondering if going with our 11 month old (with sound protection) would be worth it..what time does it go until?
Thanks

We did not find the entertainment to be really loud and we sat in the front row next to the stage. There were lots of young children present who appeared to enjoy the show. I believe the show was over by 9pm.

Hi, we were going to do just a show only package. Did you notice where the seats were for those who arrived later? We are trying to decide whether or not to get the gold seat for 20 extra dollars. Thank you.
