Highly recommend! We looked up several luau before we decided on this one, and it exceeded our expectations! Family of 3 with our 19 yr old son, and we all enjoyed ourselves. Chief was very educated, funny, and put on an excellent show as well as all of the dancers and the whole family. We definitely felt like family there and had a great time. Not to mention the activities interacting with the crowd.

Entertainment was good but the food 👎🏾 you better eat before you go!!! The fire part was my favorite part, the ladies and gents wore beautiful costumes

Absolutely incredible. It is said you have to go to a luau at least once while visiting Hawaii. I’m so glad I picked Chiefs on Oahu. Everyone a part of that evening makes you feel like family by the end of the night. Entertainment was spectacular. Food was delicious for a meal made to feed a big group. Got some body paint and was taught to make a headband before the show. Got to participate in the show a bit. A highlight of our trip and I would recommend it to anyone. I miss all of these people already thank you for a special evening ♥️ love from GA

We wanted to experience a luau before leaving Hawaii. The two luau that were recommended to us were sold out. We have small kids (two under 5 years old and a 7 months old) so planning is tough for these things. We booked around 1pm that day and Chief’s luau still have spots open. Perfect. We booked it. We read reviews and the luau seems to be so-so. People warned about it being in a water park and the food being less than mediocre. That’s ok because we know we are not paying for the food. When we got there we were seated and had to wait for everyone to arrive. The water park area where the luau takes place is between a bunch of trees. It is SO HOT. The area is terrible for such a big event and there is not a breeze. We were all sweating and it felt better to walk around away from the stage/seating areas.
Let me skip to the point and say if you have small kids this is not the luau for you! The restroom is a far walk and you must go with your kids. It’s dirty, next to the locker room, and smelly. It’s basically a public area and after a long day of the water park, no one cleans it, then they close the water park before the luau starts and leave a messy rest room.
I was breastfeeding my baby at the time and asked for a spot to breastfeed. The nice lady who work for Chief’s luau told me I can breastfeed anywhere! Great. So I go sit down where I was seated to do it and was told by a male worker that I needed to move and go somewhere else to do it. So I go behind a bush behind the walking path by the entrance where there picnic tables to breastfeed and the same male worker comes by and told me he could still see me therefore everyone can see me and I needed to move. So I go to the back area of the picnic areas behind the building to try again and the same male worker comes by and told me that I was not allowed there and that part is prohibited. He told me to go do it in the restroom. EW. What I should have said to him is, “Do you eat in the restroom because why should my baby have to?” At this time I said forget it and just went back to the picnic table to by the path to feed my baby. Every time I saw him again during the event he avoided eye contact with me. He helps with the transfers for the luau and drives the bus and he direct people in food lines during the event.
Speaking of food, eat before you go. The food is not good at all. Just like the reviews said, it’s not good. If someone said the food is good, I’m suspecting they were not at the luau at all. Or they haven’t eaten in days. I’m not a picky eater and my kids did not eat the food so that says something. The whole program is just okay. My husband and I agreed we never want to go back to Chief’s luau or any luau again. My coworker who recommended Paradise cove said she had a fantastic time so maybe next time when we are back we will give them a try. These events are not cheap. They cost a pretty penny so be careful before you choose this one!

Such a magical experience. I was nervous at first going in, I’m a shy person, but chief and his family got me out of my comfort zone and into a night full of joy and an experience I’ll never forget. I was absolutely mesmerized.

I took my daughter for her 30th birthday on 9/9/24 along with her husband. We had the best time ever. I don’t know why people complained about the food in previous reviews because the food was phenomenal. We were so full and satisfied with all of the food. All of the staff was very helpful and friendly. The staff was also very interactive with the crowd which was a decent size. Not too big and not too small. We all got to participate in everything which you normally don’t get at the other Luau’s. The show was absolutely phenomenal. The chief is a funny and humble wonderful guy. Everything went smoothly and we were extremely satisfied. I would highly recommend this luau. I have been to many different luau’s on the island and this is definitely now my favorite. Very reasonably priced for the great entertainment and buffet that we received. This made my daughter’s 30th birthday one for the books !

How can you go to Hawaii and not do a Luau? After careful consideration, we chose the "Chiefs Luau" and we were not disappointed. The food, the show and the complete evening was absolutely wonderful! I could not imagine the show being much better. The only drawback was the chairs were not very comfortable although I don't know what they could have done to provide better seats unless they used bench seating.

The show was really good and a lot of fun but the food was not very good. They show you the roasted pig and tell you how it is cooked but they don't let you eat it. Instead they feed you a buffet style meal that is similar to what you would get in a military chow hall. My wife couldn't even eat her chicken or fish. The food was also bland.

The entire experience was very intimate. Costumes were beautiful, dancers as well the warrior costumes. Chief was very friendly and share several of his personal experiences growing up! We paid for the premiere package and it was well worth it. We were each given beaded lei, seated at the front near the stage, and first in line to the buffet. When we arrived on stage was an interactive exhibit ( everyone was given the opportunity to experience lighting a fire using sticks) one group was successful in lighting the fire! Face painting was available free of charge. All staff at the luau made sure we had an unforgettable experience. The music, singing, dancing with fire captivated everyone’s attention. The food was amazing! Seasoned to perfection and delicious.

This is not to be missed! Upgraded to royal and loved it!! Funny, entertaining and an absolute blast!!!! Bus driver was super funny and host was great!

Is there transportation available from Waikiki? If not, is it easy to catch Uber or taxi to this location? Thanks!

We are planning on spending the day at WetnWild for my sons birthday then attending Chiefs Luau - what are our options for return travel in the evening?

I don’t think there is much public transport options other than taxis. You could get in touch with Roberts coaches to check your options as there were about a dozen coaches leaving after the show.

Past visitors - Just wondering which package you chose? Aloha, Paradise or Royal? If the alcoholic drinks are not a priority to me, is it still worth the extra money for the middle package as opposed to the cheapest? Thanks

Hi Libba, we went Aloha, the seating is still in a good position. The food is much the same but you don't have steak. For the price difference we were glad we went Aloha. Even if you don't feel your in a good spot you can still get up and walk around during the show to watch it from another angle. Id still go Aloha if we went again.

Only if it rains hard. If it s light or sporadic, they will provide ponchos. If it rains hard, they will help you reschedule or refund the amount paid. Whichever you choose.

We just reserved Royal Experience seats. Are the seats first come, first serve or do you have dedicated seats? If they are first come, first serve, how early do you recommend getting there? We are driving ourselves. Thanks!

Aloha! Looking forward to you joining us. It's first come first serve in each section, so drivers usually have an advantage in that regard over our guests who come to the luau from Waikiki via motor coach. Arrive by 450pm and you'll be in pretty good position :-).
