This is a great trail for hiking or trail running.
When you compare it with other trails here in Oahu, this trail is easy to moderate. Moderate mostly because it’s length. Very well maintained trail all the way to the last mile and a half, where it gets a little bit overgrown, but not too bad. On the last 2 miles you will notice more mud, more wind and a little narrower trail. The view at the end is beautiful when the weather is good.
There are some sections with ropes to help you advance faster and safer, and they are usually where are dropoffs on the side of the trails.
On the way you have a variety of plants, valley and mountain views, couple of stream crossing and you can even check out some old tunnels.

This is a good challenging hike with a stream to cool off and have lunch. The entire family enjoyed it but it may be difficulty for younger children.

I did the Waimano Falls hike one day and the 6.8 mile ridge hike on another day. Worth doing both. On the ridge hike, I ran into about 4 groups who missed the falls cutoff so be careful. When you go in about 1 mile, watch for multiple 4X7 inch signs, one shows Waimano and another shows MANANA Ridge so go down hill on the right for waimano falls and left uphill to continue to the ridge.

For the ridge hike, proceed about 3 more miles around the mountain. Beautiful view. I would recommend a walking stick for the ridge hike, steep slippery slopes and narrow walkways so BE CAREFUL.

We didn't let the rain stop us. It was slow going because of the muddy areas, roots, rocks, and difficult trails but it was all worth it. The rain did let up and we had excellent views of Hawaii on the ridge. Definitely wear hiking shoes as mine really helped with traction in the mud. I didn't fall at all but came out muddy from head to toe. Well worth the Mai Tais when we made it back safely.

My Hawaiian friend suggested going here as an off the beaten path attraction. It's not a bad hike at all and wasn't really busy. The scenery is fantastic and the jump isn't bad at all. The waterfall itself isn't super impressive but you're there for the jump so it's okay. I would definitely recommend this for a laid back day.

We went after it had been raining for a few days so it was fairly muddy which can make it difficult and slippery. I had heard about "Cardiac Hill" before going and didnt think much of it but man they weren't kidding. haha The falls itself is beautiful and the water is ice cold. Very refreshing after the hike. There were a few forks in the road that lead to dead ends so keep left on the way in.

The trail is easy and long, pleasant for a stroll. Majority of the trail is on the ridge which gives you a good view of the valley. If you look around you'll see flocks of parakeets which is lovely. I only had few hours to hike, so I didn't make it to the end of the trail Summit Lookout, but I did make it to the Waimano Waterfall. The waterfall was a disappointment, only few drops of water and a shallow water hole with few swing ropes, it was not worth the hike. The trail is more for the local population to spend sometime in the nature. If you only have few days on the island, it's not worth of your time.

This is a review for a short hike. Make sure to watch the weather, skip this one when there is rain in the forecast or avoid the lower Waimano trail in wet or rainy conditions. We have once been caught in a downpour and it can get pretty scary when the water comes at you from every direction. We walked it in the winter, in January and the lower trail was still muddy to the point that you will almost get your shoes sucked off your feet if it would have been any wetter. At the end of Waimano Home Road, park your car and walk to the fence where the trail starts. I recommend the upper Trail first but I guess that is personal preference .This trail is narrower, only scary for people with fear of heights because there are some spots where it is straight down but overall not too bad. Here you will encounter the tunnels. Make sure to bring a flashlight. This is an absolut must if you do not want any bruises. Walk through the first 2 but skip the 3rd. Just past the entrance of tunnel 3 is the sign to the lower trail. Here it gets steep and muddy and you cannot escape the mud for quite some time. Bring bugspray! You walk down to the stream and parallel it for a while. We were lucky there was not much water in it so the one area where you have to get "into the stream" to follow the path was easy to negotiate. The lower path is way wider but a gradual incline back to the beginning of the trail. Overall it took us 1 hour and 45 minutes with breaks for fotos and breaths. Bring water ...the air was pretty stagnant although most of the path is shaded. There is one view point in the beginning but the rest is pretty much "jungle-walk". I would not recommend it with multiple small children, since you might have to help them along here and there. One word of caution...Especially on the lower trail, branches or broken off limbs of trees are sometimes hanging very low into the path. You could be focusing your attention not to step into the mud and don't see the stick/branch in your way until it is too late.

This trail was very fun and adventurous, but can be difficult and dangerous for some beginner hikers. It is definitely a hiking spot for the natives to Hawaii. We saw some there, jumping into the pool and being very adventurous. Overall, there were some great views towards the end and during the beginning. I recommend the trail for experienced hikers.
