An historic neighborhood. Lots of Japanese people lived here before they were removed at the beginning of WWI. Then African Americans moved in to work in the ship yards and it became a Harlem of the West with all sorts of cultural institutions, many of which have close or are struggling. Some great restaurants around as well as good architecture, but this area needs a little love.

I wondered what it would be like to attend a standing room only concert at our ages (well into our 60's). It was fine...we just relaxed and danced and sang along with Jon Batiste and his fellow musicians. We felt love and joy and energy exuding from everyone around. No need to look at a big screen; we could see him easily, even though we were about halfway back in the main room. LiveNation/Ticketmaster sends a message out ahead of time to instruct on getting the tickets on your cell phone. (It wasn't necessary to download a new app.) The doors opened an hour early; I would recommend getting there at that point. We had to walk a long way to get at the back of a line that went around at least 2 corners. Be sure to snag a complementary apple on your way in, and a complementary concert poster on your way out. A fun tradition.

Nothing has experientially really changed at The Fillmore in decades, except for the ability to gain entry and drink prices. If you love a “festival” experience - no seating, thick pot smog, no view of the band, and $16 drinks, you will love it. Annoyingly, and possibly insurmountably, you can now only enter with a smart phone that has the Livenation app compatible with a newer operating system. No more printed tickets.
Security is tight. Forget bringing a small, collapsible stool. Although it is not listed on their list of no-no’s, folks will be told to take it back to where it came. No backpack - your bringable is 12x12x6 or nix. And, You will be first wanded and later patted down. So that entry line is long, long, long.
Not a fun experience. The SRO situation is bad, with attendees jamming into the lobby.
The sound mix was poor, with the instruments so loud the vocals were drowned.
We left at intermission, having no further enthusiasm for the rest of the concert.
I will never attend another event at the Fillmore.

The Fillmore 1968. Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis. $2 cover charge. Did not matter who was playing, it was $2. I did not realize then how lucky I was growing up there during that time. What experiences I had and the acid was the best anywhere! I would not give it up for anything. God, what fun!!!!

What a wonderful job the Fillmore did last night with limiting capacity, providing seating and preventing people from bunching up. Such a civilized way to enjoy live music, drinks and food. Every seat is amazing. Sound system stellar. Vaccinations required. A very safe and still such a fun venue. Apples in the big bin in the lobby (a Fillmore tradition) are no longer up for grabs; they are passed out to any who would like them. This place is very safe. The history depicted in the many posters is amazing.

Went for a concert this past Friday. For those looking for information on food and seating, if you are the very first people through the door when they open, head upstairs to the left and there's about four tables where you can sit and still see the show from the balcony. There's also a bar in that area and another bar and food available in the Poster Room. If you are lucky enough to secure one of these tables, send one of your party into the Poster Room, there's a variety of bar food such as nachos, vegetarian sliders, burgers, quesadillas, delicious cookies etc. Pay there and get a table number. They will send a server with your food back at your original balcony table when it's ready. Food service is only available on the second floor. As far as sightlines on the first floor in the ballroom, it gets pretty packed, and if you're small you might want to find a space up front. Tall people will have no problems from the sight lines from the back of the crowd.

Fun and easy place to see a show, if you don't mind standing. Easy to get in and out, large bar on premises, and just stuffed with historic posters and photos of all the legendary bands that have played here.Giant chandeliers in the main concert room are iconic.

After all these years, I finally made it to the Filmore for a show. What a great venue. It's not especially large, holding around 1,000 so the shows are way more intimate. We saw Randy Houser and it was a great choice for a small show. The sense of history is all around. There are posters in the foyer. And, upstairs, there's a poster room covered in classic rock posters. They had a musician playing in the room before our show.
The service is great. Many of the staff seem to have been there for years and they really care about the place. And the patrons. The beer selection is good and fairly priced. And, when you leave, you can partake in a Bill Graham tradition--red apples to go.

The Fillmore has been there since the 30’s. Great venue, sound, lights regardless of what you’ve come to see. Be prepared to stand or get there super early for limited seating.

This area has been diverse historically, once the home of Japanese-Americans, but they were removed during the war. Then migrants came to work in the war industries, including lots of African Americans, and it became one of the hearts of Black San Francisco. Now it has changed again. Come and stroll and enjoy the great architecture and the cool eating and drinking.

If I don't have any tickets for a show, is it still possible to buy merchandise?

The Fillmore is a great place to enjoy your Favorite bands. The venue holds 1300 people so it's not A a hassle to get drinks food or use the bathroom. There is a restaurant upstairs with great and reasonably priced food and the bathrooms are clean. As long as you don't get drunk and disorderly you should have a great time there

I'm disabled and won't be able to stand in the general admisison floor. Is there handicap/disabled access?
Skrevet 10. april 2017
I would call them. There are 2 flights of stairs to get in. I think there is a ramp to the restroom. There are seats along the side of the first floor, usually reserved for someone (perhaps handicapped ) I fell like I've seen people in the audience with wheelchairs. You might be able to see if they seat you near the front. IF you can get in...maybe there's and elevator somewhere
Skrevet 11. april 2017
There are seats along the perimeter of the ground floor. When I went, they had reserved signs on them. Once the show started, I needed to sit for a moment and no one gave me any trouble. There may also be limited seating on the second floor, but I did not go up there.
