Corona Arch, and the adjacent Bowtie Arch, are one of the most popular hikes in the Moab area. There are good reasons for this:
- It's a fairly short drive to get here (less than 30 minutes)
- It's on BLM land (i.e. free!).
- The hike itself is relatively short, offering a high "bang-for the-buck," so to speak
- The arches themselves are quite spectacular; they rival others seen at nearby Arches National Park.
The main downside was the quantity of people here. Luckily we arrived early enough on a Saturday to get parking and miss the main flux of folks, though we had to hike "against the flow" on the way back. Thankfully, the area around the arches was quite extensive, and it was possible to get away from others and find areas of semi-solitude, at least for a few minutes.
We added another 1-mile section to see Pinto Arch, which wasn't as spectacular as the other two arches. But at least there were few people there, for a nice change of pace.
Another plus for this trail: We were done in just a few hours. It was time for lunch and another hike elsewhere.

In Moab gibt es neben den 2 großen Nationalparks eine Unmenge an Trails, Canyons und Aktivitäten. Der Corona Arch liegt etwa außerhalb von Moab und ist über einen relativ kurzen Trail erreichbar. Absolut empfehlenswert.

Enjoyed this hike with my husband. It is a 2.4 out-and-back moderately challenging hike. There's a short section with a cable to assist with a steep ascent along with one ladder. We also added Pinto Arch which adds 1.5 miles to the hike. Definitely worth it!

Beautiful, moderate hike with beautiful views of the surrounding area and Corona Arch. If you decide to hike, be sure to head out by 9:00 a.m. as it gets really busy!

This was a fairly easy , very POPULAR trail. It is also dog friendly, which is a plus for me! The arch is as spectacular as any in the Arches National Park, and it's surprisingly larger than I had expected.
NOTE: if you are taking your dog with you, be aware there are a couple of areas toward the end of the trail where you will need to carry them up a section of slickrock and have them leave the trail for about 20' to avoid a ladder. It would obviously help to have someone with you to assist in getting them through those two areas. My dog did great, although she was not a fan of walking on the slickrock.

I went to Corona twice my last trip to Moab, once with my sister, once with m wife. Both times we were lucky to get a parking spot and the trail was PACKED! I say ship Corona, drive an extra 300 yards, and hike into Jeep arch. 1/8th the people and equal if not better experience.

This was a great hike, and didn't even have to enter a park. It was heavily traveled and well marked. It did include a short ladder and a short chain section.

For me, 59 and carrying more weight than I should, found the hike to be challenging. My wife who is in better shape and other younger people we ran into on the trail seemed to be manage very well. Awesome views and some adrenaline pumping moments make this a memorable hike. We actually got caught in a rain/hail storm on the hike back. We had to take shelter under a pinion tree! The rain added a degree of difficulty but we made it. Along the the drive, stop at Thompson Springs to view the petroglyphs.

My kids would rate this hike a 5 but I’m rating it a 4 because the last leg made me a nervous wreck. I was really surprised how many families were hiking with kiddos in backpacks. It can be done but bring lots of water and be prepared for a good bit of sideways walking.
It was a hard hike on my husbands knees due to the slope. Honestly it was beautiful but I just kept envisioning my son falling off the side toward the end so I was not able to truly enjoy the experience. You can see the arch without finishing the last more “dangerous” bit but the kids really wanted to climb the chain.
We saw lots of lizards and flowering cacti on the hike back down.

This was definitely an amazing hike. Be aware if you have knee or stability issues this might not be the place for you. There is a short but steep climb which requires holding onto a cable and stepping into footholds carved into the wall, as well as a short ladder climb. I did see people carrying 40-50 pound dogs up these climbs so if you are fit it is very doable and doable with kids.

Can you see the arch from your car. Or only hiking to it?

No you can not see Corona Arch from the car. It is about a 30-45 minute walk from the parking lot and with some obstacles that you have to overcome to get to the Arch. Not that the obstacles are difficult but it certainly isn’t easy if you have mobility issues or very younger children.

Are Corona and Bowtie two arches that you can do on the same trail? How long does the trail to Corona Arch and Bowtie Arch take?
Russell M

Yes, they are close together. I think it took us about 1.5 hours.

Where do you park to take this hike? Is it at the arches national park?

Just north of Moab there is a turn off for Hwy 279 potash road you go west about 10 miles and there is a parking area for the arch on the right hand side.

Wondering if the road to the trailhead is paved - doable for a small rental car if not ?
thanks!

Yes, it's paved. The trailhead parking lot is dirt, but it's right off the road which is paved. It's a really easy drive from downtown Moab or from Arches NP.

Would it be safe and prudent to do this hike carrying on baby on your back in a carrier?

Deerfield, IL36 bidrag
Hi
My answer would be it depends. There are a couple places where you need to step up using a cable. It is a very short step up. If you regularly hike with a baby, I would think you would be ok.

what time do the national parks open ?
momwithtoddler46
Cody, WY82 bidrag
National parks do not open and close. You can enter and exit 24 hours a day. This time of year the visitor center is open from 7:30am to 6pm. As for seeing or doing anything at Arches National Park you will want to be there daylight hours and know that sunrise and sunset are particularly beautiful.

Great info on Corona Arch and Bowtie--Thanks. Is a 4 WD vehicle necessary for this excursion? (Including the intersection with the Potash Area. It sounds like a trip down Potaash Rd wants a 4 WD.)
jccgtown
New Harmony, UT149 bidrag
Potash Rd is a paved road to and past the Corona Arch trailhead. Any regular vehicle will work fine.

Trailhead Location: On Utah Scenic Byway 279, 10 miles west of the Utah 279/U.S. 191 junction.
Route Description: From the parking lot on the north side of the highway follow the trail up to the visitor register box near the railroad; please register. Cross the railroad track and follow an old roadbed up through a gap in the rim. From the gap, follow the cairns up the wash for about 100 yards where the trail swings to the left.
Follow the trail and cairns over a low sandy pass and then down towards the base of a large cliff. Follow the base of the cliff to the first safety cable and around to the second cable where steps have been cut into the slickrock. Corona Arch is visible from this point. From the top of the second cable, climb the short ladder up over a small ledge and follow the cairns. From this point, it is an easy walk along the broad slickrock bench to the base of Corona Arch.
