There are so many exhibits to check out at the museum. When you first walk in, the climbing maze is cool but easy to lose sight of your kids. If you have young children, it might be an activity to skip. The dinosaurs in space exhibit was so unique. Lots of hands on activities (dressing the dinosaurs was clever, and the nail art was neat). The golf ball exhibit was fun however, that could take a drastic turn safety wise if golf balls get thrown around. Parents need to watch their kids closely because accidental rogue balls especially from the platform (that’s at least 6 steps to get up to) could result in injury. Overall, a very fun place! It definitely takes several hours to get through everything.

Escaped the heat by visiting the joyful and entertaining museum. We stumbled upon this deep discounted fare by going on the museum's website and bought tickets in advance to secure this $1 per person rate. Went to the Winnie the Pooh exhibit in the Hundred Acre Woods room where we learned about the beginning of Winnie in the 1930s. Interactive activities were plentiful for children.

Note - Adults unaccompanied by children are required to leave a photo ID at the Admissions Desk during your visit. We were two adults visiting the museum alone and thought this policy was a very good security measure for families.

Excellent children's museum. Lots of activities for children from toddlers to preteen. Be prepared for child to get wet at some activities - bring spare outfit for small child! Only complaint - The bubble room floor is slippery.

If you have young children, this is an absolute must. We had a blast here with our kid (6).

They’re going to love it. You’re going to be happy and everyone will just be better off.

There’s an age out limit in my mind. Think, like 8-10, the kids are going to not be amused here. I could be wrong, but I don’t see my kid delving into everything the way he did this time around, when he’s 8 or 10.

While there are many fun things to do at this museum, there are a couple of safety issues that need to be addressed. First, there is an area where actual golf balls are used to explore different activities. There was an incident that involved my grandson being hit in the head with a golf ball. He ended up having to go to the hospital for 4 hours to be observed, us having to catch a taxi to the hospital and back, missing dinner time (not good as one of us is diabetic), all because the golf balls are not controlled and were thrown (by an adult at that!!). This could be made safer if the museum used plastic golf balls instead of real ones. The outcome of the activities where the real golf balls are used would be the same, with no head injuries, if plastic balls are used. Second, the area where there is bubble exploration does not have enough rubber mats to prevent slipping and falling. There are only a couple of mats on the floor for this. Not enough when you have little kids running and walking from station to station on a soapy, slippery surface!! Also, not pleased at all how the museum staff handled the golf ball injury incident. At the very least the manager could have followed up with how my grandson was doing after being hit in the head, since she is the one that said she would check up on him with an email and a phone call. Neither one happened. Nor did she get any contact information from the woman who threw the golf ball which injured my grandson. We are out-of-towners and now have a medical bill and taxi fare spent. How do we get reimbursed from the woman who threw the ball that was responsible for the incident??

This is a great museum for little kids, about 8 or younger (depending on your kid.) Allow time- especially given the price. There are 3 floors full of exhibits, and so much to do.

This was our kiddo’s favorite stop in all of Boston. It’s almost like a giant play place, plus science learning and imagination play. There were lots of interactive ways to play and learn (assuming your child held still long enough to explain the science behind things, especially when there is so much to do they don’t want to listen.)

Trip Advisor suggests 1-2 hours- I don’t agree! Maybe if your 1-2 year old is done after 2 hours, that makes sense. A 5-7 year old boy could run in this place for 4-5 hours (or more!) but the Museum forces a break for lunch. I saw 3-4 year olds we met on entrance still going strong as we left. We allowed only 2.5 hours and couldn’t even do it all despite me forcing us to run from exhibit to exhibit to try to at least see most of it, so our son was disappointed as he did not nearly have enough. Ideally, in retrospect, this should have been an all day place after the torture of taking him through historic museums the previous day. If you time it right, reserve the Boston Tea Party for the time slot shortly after this place closes, so after a day of play they get entertained and go home happy. If your limited in time, I’d recommend at least 4 hours; you can always leave early if you happened to have the rare kid that gets tuckered out or are too old to be interested. I saw some older kids (about 10) having fun but also not as stimulated and ready to be rough with equipment. As a parent, I thought it was fun and enjoyed it immensely. My husband wasn’t as interested.

As for parking, if you are visiting and staying in a hotel, the city is pretty easily walkable. We walked with a little kids from here to the North end. That said, an Uber is a good option and costs less than most parking, at least in one direction and the trains/subway are easily accessible from most places. We didn’t see the need for a car.

If you’re touring Boston with a little kid, do right by them and give them 4 hours here to get energy out and be stimulated on their level (all while unknowingly learning.)

Made for the little ones. My 5 year old enjoyed it but my 8 and 10 year old boys were bored. Some exhibits (Kyoto street) seemed closed.

If you have young kids, this place is a must. We spent way more time there than we anticipated. My daughter is 7 and had so much fun. It’s pretty much three floors of filled with hands-on activities/interactive. It’s also a perfect complement to the Boston Tea Party Museum……. which is also interactive, child friendly, and a short walk away. We were there on a rainy Saturday, and it was packed.

One thing to keep in mind, the museum is ideal for kids age 8 and under.

The only negative is that it is a museum that is specific to Boston, but not unique to Boston……. meaning there are many other children’s museums all over the US that are just as good. In other words, if your short on time, this is one you can skip.

We visited on Friday morning when there weren't many people at all, just couple of school trips. We got to experience everything many times over so 3 hours were just right (although could have stayed longer, there's lots to do). Kids loved the climbing structure and bubble geizer, as well as tennis ball launch.

They have great accessibility features such as wheelchairs. It is good for kids and they accept credit cards as well as contactless payments.
