The marketing is not quite accurate. Reality is that you will ride through barren desert for quite a long time, then ride on the beach for maybe 10 minutes, and then go back the way you came. You will not be allowed to go near the water or go above a plodding walk. For many, this will be enough and enjoyable. Having been on a beach ride in Texas previously, this ride was uninteresting. We were bored the majority of the ride, though are experienced riders so of course that contributed. If you have never ridden, do it! If you have ridden, it will likely bore you. Also, if you are experienced, just know they are overly cautious, which detracts from the experience.

What a fantastic experience! They picked out two gorgeous horses that had so much personality and were perfect for our different experience levels.
The trails are lush and gorgeous with a tropical feel, but there are also wider portions with sweeping vistas.
Our guide Kendra was so lovely! She was able to tell us about the plants and flowers and the history of the preserve including a mini ghost town and long-abandoned military bunkers. Plus— she takes the most stunning photos and knows where all the best photo ops are.
The stables also have a little petting zoo. We really enjoyed the friendly llama and the baby goats, piglets etc.
Wonderful! Can’t wait to come back!

We booked and paid online but when we got there you had to actually pay as their online bookings don't take the payment until you show them your card in person. They made a big thing about pointing to the sign on the counter about tipping 20-25%. Their guides apparently work really hard and these tips are vital to their staff. Having paid over $500 for our group and having been kept waiting as our guide was late for work, this was small talk that did not go down well. Neither did the filthy toilet facilities.
The ride to the beach can at best be described as boring. A dusty track with nothing to see until you eventually get to the beach. We specifically had wanted to ride up to the border but our guide said there was no time to do so. We questioned this and were told it was a 2 and a half hour ride and not the 3 hours they state on their website.
It ended up 3 hours long as we let the horses snack on the plants on the way back much to our guide's annoyance. She tried telling us the plants were poisonous whilst looking at her watch continually. Just drive up the road and spend $7 to park in the national park. Walk up to the border and down to the beach, we much preferred this. The horses were great though. And no we didn't tip them a cent as a tip should be earned not expected.

We had a great ride down to the beach, great weather too! While down at the beach, we saw a pair of dolphins riding the surf and two times at the end of the wave they jumped out of the water! Very nice and quiet ride, just what we were looking for :)
Our guide was great, she said she'd been with the company for about 9 years :)

Just want to say thank you to Jessica and all the staff on a job well done! We rented the wagon ride with two beautiful white horses for our 25th Wedding anniversary. Everyone loved the horses and wagon ride! It was perfect! Veronica and the driver were great to work with and very professional. We loved their attire and also the attire on the two white horses. They looked great!
My wife and I are so happy with the service Jessica and her staff provided. Once again, thank you very much for all your help and hard work on our special day. We recommend San Diego Beach Rides!

I went on a 3 hour beach ride with Caroline and had a fabulous time. The horses are in great condition and suited to the rider's level of experience. The beach was beautiful and we saw dolphins and endangered terns and found some sand dollars.
We rode very close to Mexico and could see 'the wall'
All in all a fabulous ride and highly recommended. I was most impressed with all the horses - they were all shiny and well fed and happy to do their 'job'

Es waren über 30 Jahre her seid ich das letzte Mal auf einem Pferd saß und ich war etwas nervös aber das Pferd war schon echt fantastisch. Ich hatte einen Sunset Ride gebucht, zwar nicht ganz Sunset da man ja nicht im Dunkeln zurück reiten will aber nahe dran.... Der Ritt, die Farben der Felder, die Wellen am Strand und die Bilder die das nette Personal von uns gemacht hat- einfach traumhaft schön und eine Erinnerung fürs Leben. Lohnt sich total und es wird hoffentlich nicht mein letzter Ritt gewesen sein.

Fantastic. If you have time to do a horseback ride in San Diego, definitely do so. This ranch is a little out of the way but worth the trip. The facilities are as clean as can be expected. We went on a beginner ride, and everyone is treated like a beginner, which is helpful to someone like me who rode as a kid but rarely as an adult. You use a stand to get on the horse, so you don't have to decide if you have it in you to swing yourself up onto a horse at your age or height or weight. The horses are well trained; they know where they are doing and follow each other down the path. I rode Jax, and my husband rode Alfred, the red roan. You do have to make sure your horse doesn't stop of a snack, but they are responsive to a correction to get them going again. The guides are friendly and helpful; there is one at the back who keeps an eye on everyone in front of her and hollers out instructions as needed. This may sound a little rough but it's actually very helpful. She can see what you can't, and it's comforting to know she'll tell you if you need to make a correction. That also means that if she's not correcting you, then you're doing alright. Our ride was an hour to the beach, an hour on the beach, and then an hour back. Three hours is a long time to be on a horse if you're not used to it, but you don't really feel it until you get down! Wear sunscreen and a jacket if you have one; the breeze coming off the ocean is refreshing and a little chilly. Next time we're in San Diego, we're doing the private ride; it was that good.

We had a private ride on Sunday, May 26. My wife and I rode on Pam and Apache and our Guide was Sara. Sara was an amazing Guide. We had such wonderful talks along the ride. Sara is a great horse person and we had a wonderful discussion of the current state of horse racing in America. Pam was a bit slow, but that was to be expected with a draft horse which was my fault for being about 5 pounds over weight. My wife really enjoyed riding Apache. The weather was very overcast and it was windy at the beach, but that did not impact our enjoyment of the ride. Again, many thanks to Sara for such a wonderful ride.

Wonderful, solo, private beach ride. Caroline made sure everything was in place. Weather was perfect with blue skies and crisp sunny morning. Just a perfect day to ride!!!
One never forgets the feeling of salt water blowing in your face and the wind in your hair. No issues just relaxing and refreshing. Horseback riding is a great change of pace with the right company... Happy Trails...

The weight limit is 250 lbs. I think I remember the guide saying the minimum weight is 90 lbs. They have a large staff working at the ranch. I recommend calling and asking for specific details.
