Adam Teller arranged a full day for me starting with a hike down the Bear Trail with his son, followed by a jeep tour with Adam. It was a total of about 9 hours and I had a fantastic day. His son is somewhat quiet, but thoughtful and careful. We had a lot of conversation during the hike. It was a quick descent to the canyon floor, then walking in the arroyo (a lot of loose sand) and then back up to the top. Going down wasn't hard, but there were some tricky foot placements. Going up for me was hard because I was not yet acclimated to the elevation and its about a 15% grade - all grippy sandstone/no shade. Make sure you have more than enough water and you might want to take a hiking pole. The jeep tour went deep into the canyon and Adam taught me a lot of Navajo history and present day facts. His family has lived in the canyon for generations and he speaks for ancestors. Being solo enabled us to converse more. After the tour we visited a relative's house in the canyon for a cold drink and the chance to buy some crafts made by family members. I suggest you BYO snacks or food as lunch is not provided. Making the arrangements was pretty easy - remember that Adam is out in the canyon a lot and he no doubt gets a lot of emails, so it is possible that something might get missed. Just try again and also text him. He took my deposit by check and the rest of the day I paid for in all cash after the tour. And remember this - it is not his fault if it rains. Getting stuck in the mud or deep sand is entirely possible and Adam knows where to drive and when to go. Also know that you supporting a Navajo business that does appreciate your business and your constructive and positive reviews. It bothers me that when someone has a one-off issue they write an overly negative review versus trying to work it out or coming to the realization that nothing is perfect, especially in this part of the world. If you want perfect there is a McDonald's in Gallup that will serve you the same perfect hamburger that you had in Atlanta, or Seattle, or St. Louis, or..... But this experience is unique and rich, especially with Adam's family sharing their knowledge.

We did a four hour tour with Adam. Can't say enough about his knowledge of the canyon and his guide skills. He knows the canyon since he basically grew up in the Canyon near Antelope House. Adam got us through the river and up some steep muddy roads in his jeep. We learned a lot about canyon history, petroglyphs and Navajo culture. Only wish we had booked a full day tour.

Don't let the road weary Chevy Suburban fool you - when THE best Navajo guide (Adam Teller) is behind the wheel - he can make the canyon sing! So much history and insight from Adam during the tour enabled me to fill over a dozen college-ruled pages with notes on what I learned. He trains the other tour guides!

I do not recommend booking with Adam Teller's company, Antelope House Tours. The problem lies with getting any sort of refund if there is a problem. Communication is poor to non-existent following your booking. Adam is a smart, extremely knowledgeable guide and we enjoyed learning of the history of the canyon, about the Navajo tribe, and his family during the half day we spent with him. He did arrive late to pick us up. I booked and paid for a FULL day canyon tour. It snowed overnight and continued to snow all morning. The snow melting caused the canyon to become very wet, and Adam became worried about getting stuck in the clay as much of the drive is along/in the riverbed. He indicated he would refund for 1/2 the day and was cancelling the afternoon portion of our tour. Completely understandable and we were fine with this if only he would REFUND the afternoon, as promised. No refund has been received and now I am left trying to deal with this through the credit card company.

I highly recommend this tour! We were to tour with Adam and that morning his cousin Benny led us through Canyon de Chelly instead. He shared his extensive knowledge of its history and provided opportunities to get out to look more closely at the petroglyphs and old homes inside the canyon. It was a privilege to learn so much about the history of both the canyon and of the Navajo from Benny, and my fiancé and I are very grateful for this experience.

In February 2024 I scheduled and PAID for a 4X4 3 hour Jeep tour of the Canyon w Antelope House Tours for 9AM Saturday, March 30. We arrived at the visitor center at 8:45 AM. At 9:10 AM I called Adam Teller. He stated Antelope House Tours canceled the tour Friday, March 29 due to muddy conditions in the canyon. He stated they emailed me Friday. I told him I did not receive an email.
I requested a refund . He stated there was no refund even if the tour operator canceled the tour. When I stated that was bad business practice and I would recommend others not use his business. He stated that “I was racist and would be putting down the Navajo people”. I stated this had nothing to do Navajo people this was poor public relations by Antelope House tours.

Adam Teller is the perfect person to take you into Canyon de Chelly. He comes from a family that goes back many generations who lived in this area. He is extremely knowledgeable about the people, the geology and has many great stories to tell. He has a gentle manner and can drive his jeep through riverbeds and the bumpy dirt roads of the canyon with finesse!! Highly recommend him...and he has been a teacher to many other tour guides as well.

I booked a 4 hour tour with Adam Teller about 6 weeks in advance and he immediately charged my credit card for the total tour amount. He sent out an email about a week before the tour reminding me of it. The day before the tour I tried to contact him by phone to clarify the time to meet him and left a message. He failed to return my call. The morning of the tour he did not show up. I called his phone and another phone number on his website several times, but he did not respond. One of the park rangers also tried to reach him for me, but was unsuccessful. After waiting over 30 minutes, we started to leave but I went up to a guide from another tour company and asked whether he knew Adam Teller. He advised he was waiting for a couple who never showed up too and we eventually realized he was waiting for us. (By the way, he never approached us in the parking lot though we were clearly waiting.) He said Adam had moved our tour to the company he worked for, but he had my name wrong and thought it was for a 3 hour tour, not a four hour tour. We went off with him in a decrepit vehicle, which he admitted was in bad shape and only used when no other vehicle was available. While he was nice and a knowledgeable tour guide, it was not the experience we had booked or expected. We never got to Antelope House because the tour was only three hours. I never heard from Adam Teller again. I kept expected an apology or at least an explanation. I later emailed him to express my disappointment and to request a refund for the difference in cost between the 3 hour tour we received and the 4 hour tour I paid for. Absolutely no response from him.

Adam Teller has been leading tours of Canyon de Chelly for over 30 years. His great great grandfather signed the treaty with the gov’t in 1863. His grandma was a medicine woman. His uncle was a Navajo Code Talker in WWII. He is a nationally recognized storyteller and has a lot of stories to tell. I had read that eclipses are sacred to all tribes. I asked him to share the significance to Navaho people. This tour was one of the best 4 hours of my life. Adam Teller, who holds a wealth of knowledge about the history, culture and ongoing struggles and challenges his people face. He is unique in that he holds the oral history going back generations, a college minor in cultural anthropology, and first hand participation with Navajo tribal councils. I wish I could have spent a few more days with this passionate man.
What I loved learning about was a culture that values living in harmony with the earth, one that values community, values the wisdom of elders, and integrates singing and dancing into daily life. Do yourself a huge favor and book a 4 hour tour with Adam and Antelope House tours.

Great informative experiential three hour morning Jeep tour all the way to Canyon del Muerto that complemented the previous day four hour hike through the beginning of Canyon de Chelly. Our guide Adam Teller was knowledgeable, engaging, funny, and sensitive to our needs. He was thorough in his descriptions of petroglyphs and pictographs, He was engaging in discussions about Dine history and culture. He was thoughtful in his conversations about the dynamics of Dine life within the tribe, in relationship to the National Park Service and United States legal system. His storytelling and willingness to share his own personal history was appreciated. We finished our time with Adam Teller with a new sense of our place in the world and the cosmos (for real!!)
