Scott has been on my radar for over a decade and 5 months ago I finally booked a tour with the man himself to experience literally years worth of hype. I consider myself an above average pizza fan with a higher-than-typical level of interest in NYC pizza and its history, but Scott is the true blue real deal. His passion is contagious and his knowledge seems limitless at times, yet even after 15 years of doing this, Scott still learns new things constantly and is more than excited to share it with fellow fanatics.
It feels like an understatement to say that he was extremely personable, but the trip was truly one of the greatest highlights of our time in NYC thus far. It was so amazing that the next time we come back, we will be booking another tour, 100% no doubt. Scott is one of the rare types of people I come across who becomes so passionate about something they probe every aspect on it. Want to talk about coal fired ovens? Scott himself personally has a curated list of every pizza joint in NYC using a coal fired oven and they’re organized by whether they’re new or old ovens. Want to talk about a particular place’s oven? Scott can literally walk you through the history of a specific oven, has copies of the original design plans, permits and more, and will talk you through the science of coal vs wood fired pizza crusts. I’m not exaggerating, this dude matches my OCD level of energy in wanting to know EVERYTHING about something that really catches your attention.
If you’re reading this, you may be on the fence or casually browsing after hearing about Scott and his business somewhere and I wish I could speak to you all directly in person to walk you through every step of how badass it is, but please take a chance here and trust me. You owe it to yourself to have the most kickass 4 hours you could possibly spend on a Sunday afternoon in NYC.
