An extremely important crosstown street, wider than many. Famous as the historic location of theaters. Many of those are gone, but you will still find some on the West Side. And you will find Times Square, which is very crowded. This street also runs past the very beautiful Chrysler Building and Grand Central Station. Lots to see on a long walk.

It’s NY’s theater district. How could anyone possibly think low rating? According to the internet, 11 of the theaters were built in the beginning of the 20th century. I found a very nice theater gift shop on 44th Street that I thought would have enough business to expand. Besides the typical t-shirt, sweatshirt stuff, a theater fan can also find things like sheet music books for all the musicals on Broadway and 42nd Street. I highly recommend stopping by Theater Circle Gift Shop.

42nd Street is a busy thoroughfare that cuts through the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Along this cross-town route, you will walk from Times Square, along Bryant Park and the New York City Public Library, get views of both the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center, cross 5th Avenue, pass by Grand Central Station and end up at the iconic Chrysler Building.

This is such a brilliant spot...we were west 42nd and it was so convenient and in the middle of everything. Wherever you want to go , its either close or within easy walking distance on their grid system. Also fab delis on 42nd ( near the irish pub) with astonishing choice of breakfast.

It cuts through Manhattan from east to west, touching on some of the city's most iconic sites. Starting from the East River to the Hudson, in fact, there are the United Nations Building, the Chrysler Building, the Central Station, the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, Bryant Park, the Public Library and Times Square, just to name a few. Also due to the presence of numerous shops, restaurants and hotels, it is very lively at any time of day and night.

I knew of the show 42nd Street which I had seen posters for in London's West End. It was only when I arrived in New York that I realised the significance of this road.
It bisects Broadway and this location is Times Square which is one of the most hyped locations in Manhattan.
The road stretches from one side on Manhattan to the other bisecting all the avenues along the way. Around Times Square is the busiest area and there are plenty of restaurants and attractions in this area. If you struggle with crowds avoid it!

Long street with famous theaters. If you walk further, it is an ordinary street with houses, restaurants and, above all, a lot of hustle and bustle with buses and cars.

42nd street runs across the main areas of activity in Manhattan. Lots of night life and just south of Times Square. Lots to see.

I've read a lot about this very important cross-town street as it has an extremely important history. At the East you have the lovely apartments of Sutton Place and then the beautiful Ford Foundation building. The highlight in Grand Central Terminal which may be the world's most beautiful train station. Near it are some new skyscrapers and then the Art Deco marvel Chrysler Building. At the west end you have what is left of the famous theaters. Most have been torn down and this stretch has been cleaned up with lots of tall apartment buildings near the Hudson.

A two-mile long 42nd Street crosses Manhattan from the East River in the east to the Hudson River in the west part of NYC, and it is known for its busy pace, heavy traffic, theaters -- New Amsterdam Theater, New Victory Theater, Regal E-Walk Theater complex, movie theater AMC Empire 25, also Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. All these attractions are in the east part of the street, in the area of Times Square and Broadway. Then the street crosses the 8th Avenue and goes further down to the Hudson River.
The skyscrapers flanking the 42nd Street in the Theater District, are decorated with some stunning neon billboards and digital screens. The aerial views of the 42nd Street from the top of some high-rises show a very busy, non-stop street life; and in the evenings the 42nd Street lightens up even more, after the shows theater goers fill up the pedestrian walk lanes on their way to Broadway, that welcomes them with even louder buzz and entertainment.

Should I book theatre tickets before I go or will we get s better deal in NY ?
Skrevet 19. juli 2018
I would say depends on how long you have in NY - how flexible you are on the show and time/date you want. Good luck you will love it.
