Our bodies were craving something healthy. Peruvian food at Don Ceviche (Essex Market) to the rescue!
My husband ordered their power bowl with rotisserie chicken while I ordered one of their budget meals.
We loved the variety of options at this market. It is also so cool to know that this is the oldest market in NYC! Talk about historic.

We came here for the Rebel cheese, which was quite good. Also had pizza at the Unregular pizza, which was good as well.
But if you buy a beer from Top hops, you can only drink it there at the counter. And we also had food from the Maroccan stand Zerza and that was awful. Had to wait for quite a long time, to get reheated old “roasted” cauliflower which was just gross. Charged 11 dollars for that, it made me feel quite sick. The others had the beef stew in a small pita, which was ok, but not very good. Upstairs are limited seats. All in all not really worth coming to. Especially if you spend 90 dollars, you expect a good lunch.

An easy no-brainer, especially for a group of hungry and differently-minded people, something for everyone
For West Coast people, this is a similar concept to Oxbow Market in Napa, or like an indoor "Streat Food" in San Francisco. Essentially, it's a brick and mortar with endless food and shop vendors, endless options for grab and go, fast casual, and sit down, and some of the tastiest options in lower Manhattan, and a perfect meetup spot for friends, family, etc. It's a wonderful use of space, and you could spend all day exploring, discovering, and meeting the nicest shop owners and cooks. Quite tasty and lots of smiles, all around.

The last time we were here was before the new market opened up. I sort of miss the old market but the new market is very nice. We were actually on a Free Tours by Foot Lower East Side food tour and this was our last stop. It’s more modern and sleek plus getting to stay inside on a 90 degree day was much needed. Unfortunately we didn’t get to stay longer due to having play tickets at 7 pm that night. Hopefully we can come back on another visit.

Good fresh food market, I stay around China town but I can walk to this market. Where you can have fruit reasonable price and variety of choices. Don’t miss this market.

Very impressive re-do of an old public food market. Upstairs the remnants of the food market where you can buy all sorts of very good things for your kitchen. Downstairs is a food hall with international prepared foods.

I really liked the old Essex Market (it had that cluttered faded charm) and don't live the cold black-and-white aesthetic of the new market, but it's still a cool food hall that's worth stopping by. There seemed to be a good variety of food and other vendors, definitely more than the old market had. I enjoyed my banana pudding from Sugar Sweet Sunshine and tried to eat at the legendary Shopsin's (unfortunately closed that day). There's plenty of tables and benches to eat at, there's WiFi, and it's nicely air-conditioned. The bathrooms (you need a code) are clean as well. Overall a nice place to grab a bite and get some work done.

A great little food market, lots of choice, was pretty quiet on a Monday afternoon, but that helped with the quick wait time for food!

Great place to shop for prepared and unprepared food (cheese, spices, veggies, fruit, meat) and drinks. Seemed very safe and clean. Good option for a bad weather day. Great for true food shopping or a stop over while killing time. This is not a place to buy trinkets and souvenirs.

A nice market on the lower East side.
On the corner of Delancy & Essex you can get there via the F train to Delancy and then is a short walk across the street.
High quality food vendors and plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs. A nice grocery store and specialty shops. Fresh fruit, veggies, fish, spices and gourmet cheese. All small businesses under one roof.
Stop by the Soup ladies booth - Peasant Stock is great. All soups are homemade so are the breads and baked goods. Everything is super fresh and organic. Everyday has different specials and the chowder I had was amazing and it came with delicious hot bread.
