We originally hadn't planned to go here...we had hoped to go kayaking, but the weather was very cold and rainy. My husband looked up this museum because when we walked the whole river path the day before, we ended up here on one end. He said the reviews were very good and I'm here to add one more good review. Rainy or not, this is worth visiting. And if it seems a bit pricey, ask about discounts...we were able to use our AAA card for a discount. Start with the film and then tour the exhibits. Everything is set up beautifully. We ended in the huge gift shop...a big book selection and then had lunch in the cafe that features grab and go sandwiches and salads as well as coffee drinks and sweets. The free town trolley stops here if you are staying in town and don't want to drive over.

We especially enjoyed the outdoor areas with our kids, ages 8-15. They have an army encampment showing you what soldier life looked like as well as a Revolution-era farm. In the indoor museum, the two movies shown on bigger screens are good! One of them is in a 180 degree theater and was so good our 15YO wanted to watch it a second time.

This Museum in Yorktown is superb. We spent several hours going through this well designed building with videos, magnificent displays and it was totally enjoyable. The history is well laid out and the interactive displays allowed one to relish the history of our country during this time. We would certainly return and recommend this highly!

If you love history…. This is the place! We enjoyed it so much!! I have a back and hip issue that causes me not to be able to walk or stand for long periods of time. They gave me a scooter for free!!!!!

I’m a history and museum nerd. I’ve been to Normandy, spent hundreds of hours in the Louvre, Smithsonian, and so many more and I was SO impressed with this museum. We were unfortunately on a time constraint, spent four hours in the museum and 1.5 at the Battlefield area. I suggest taking two days to really enjoy Yorktown and all the exhibits. The museum is state of the art, beautifully curated…it became alive with beautiful displays, short films, terrific lighting, sound effects and a staff of terrific volunteers who knew their stuff! I especially enjoyed that they covered all areas of the pre war events, plus important events pre war, and the involvement of southern US. We went on a Monday in January, there were 6 people visiting! It was wonderful…

The museum is done well. Lots of inside exhibits. Depending on your interest level in the artifacts you could spend a couple hours inside. We enjoyed the time line along the main hallway that explores people who were there and what their experience was like. What we enjoyed most was the outside area they call the Farm Encampment. They have replicated what the camp of the colonial troops may have been like. There was the camp kitchen with a "cook" in costume who was knowledgable about how the kitchen area was set up and what would have been involved in feeding the troops on a daily basis. He had examples of food that would have been served. There was the soldier who demonstrated the firing of a musket. Again he was very knowledgable and willing to share with anyone who spoke with him. There was the quartermaster, the make shift tavern and many tents that served as living quarters. The highlight of our visit was the Drum and Fife corp. They marched into the camp, each took a turn explaining the roll of the corp and how things would have been. These were young people who were very knowledgable and did a great job.

We missed this one on our last trip to Yorktown but decided to catch it this time around. GREAT museum where we spent three hours and could have gone another three. There is a 150 degree movie presentation on the battles of the Chesapeake and Yorktown explaining them as well as a lot of history. The museum covers from 1763 to 1789 and has a wealth of info. There are also two outside exhibits of a 1700s farm and a Continetnal troop bivioac.

This was a very interesting museum, well done with a ton to see. The living history portion was adequate and decent but the interior museum was extensive and a lot too see, dive yourself plenty of time. We enjoyed the videos and the displays very much. The living historians were full of interesting information and you can tell they enjoyed their job. I did not expect it to be this good! Definitely worth the second day ticket. We went to Jamestown settlement yesterday. Very different but both well worth it.

This is a beautiful museum chocked full of historical significance! If you're coming to the area there are 4 things that are absolutely on the must-do list, and this museum is one of them (the other three are: Williamsburg Gloucester St Tour, Jamestown Settlement and the Berkeley Plantation Tour over in Charles City). The encampment and reenactments they have outside are very interesting, and it's probably one of the few we saw that would be perfect for younger children.

We were on a bus tour. To see “everything”we would probably need a day, not the short time we had.

Pay extra and have the guide take you thru, he makes history come to life. Answers questions even for children.

The costumed actors at the outdoor exhibits did a great job. It would have been more enjoyable without constantly looking at the clock in order to not miss the bus.
