We took our teen boys and a friend here for Mother's Day. The museum was interesting with interactive exhibits and the docent that started us out was amazing as he had worked in that very building from 1980 to 1995 and had a lot of personal knowledge to share. It took us a little over an hour to see everything and talk with the docent and we will probably come back after the second floor exhibits are open to the public. Make sure that you make time to go across the street and explore the Hoover-Mason Trussle which took us another hour to explore because we stopped to read all the information plaques.

Although it may not sound exciting at first blush, it’s a great overview of the steel industry that built many of our buildings (Chrysler building in NYC), railroad, and ships for WW2. It is American history… especially interesting for the mechanical minded (not me). Ladies, this explains Rosie the riveter. If you’re already in Bethlehem, just go.

If you can, book a tour with one of the guys who used to work at the plant "Steelworkers’ Archives Walking Tours". Our tour guide told great stories and provided an informative, entertaining information about the plant when it was operational. Highly recommend! (note - The elevator was not working in mid October 2021. It's about a a 3 or 4 story climb)

Had a Excellent Tour given by “John Cook”. The Corliss Came Alive on 9/11/21 the Day of our Tour. Was cool to see this Monster Running. By the End of our Tour John explained how steel is produced. Made it wonderful to know what looking at when walking through the Old Bethlehem Steel Facility.

I had a fabulous time, the staff is very friendly and the museum has the perfect layout for a 1-2 hour visit. As a fan of old time power and hit and miss engine era technology, this place was heaven. The restorations are gorgeous, and since it was not busy(I was there late in the day), I could just stand there and stare! And the lady at the front desk pointed me to the walkway along the old Bethlehem Steel Plant---wow, So glad I stopped in, best $12 I've spent!

We had read an article in the NYT about the museum and decided to make a day of it.
Very clean, not busy, more for adults then kids. beautiful examples of of equipment from the 1800’s -1900”s.

Had a small glitch with the credit cards, but had it resolved a couple of days later, no big issue.

Easy parking.

My companion is in construction and wanted to visit this museum. I am not in construction, but thought it would be a nice reprieve from the heat. Surprisingly, I found the history of the steel industry interesting. The industrial equipment exhibits are eye catching and informative. There are small scale models to look at, plus several interactive items to try. Everything is well kept and displayed. It wasn’t busy when we were there, but they do have covid protocols in place. The people we encountered wore masks and there were social distancing indicators on the floor. Overall, it really was a pleasant way to learn something new.

Bethlehem, PA has taken the bull by the horns. The steel industry may have gone the way of the Dodo bird, but the town has revived nicely. The National Museum of Industrial History is a wonderful museum, affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.
Everything is massive in this museum. Lathes, engines, pumps, all brought back to their original on of the factory condition. I thought I knew much about the rise and fall of the steel industry in the USA, but this place disproved me. I learned so much more.

Having lunch at the Bethlehem Hotel was a nice start of our day,

There is free parking across the street from the entrance. The museum is a thorough history of Bethlehem Steel. After paying the admission fee, I was given some background information by an extremely knowledgeable docent. I then took the self guided part of the tour. It was interesting to see the evolution of the steelworks into a silkworks and into the propane industry. There are models, artifacts, and information boards, There are photographs and even some art. There is a small gift shop. COVID-19: The staff wore masks and customers were expected to be masked at all times as well as observe social distance protocols. There are many hand sanitizer stations available.
