This museum is a hidden gem. We walked the museum on our own, viewing all of the exhibits, and then took the walking tour (the "trestle tour") of the adjacent remaining structures of the former Bethlehem Steel works. Both were excellent.
The museum is very interesting, and does a great job of depicting, both in words and objects, key information about the manufacturing process, particularly with respect to Bethlehem Steel. The walking tour, in our case led by a former employee of Bethlehem Steel, provides great insights not only into the workings of the plant, but also into the lives of people who worked there and what it was like to engage in such challenging work on behalf of such a large company in a critical industry.
We would highly recommend both the museum and walking tour.

This should be first on your list of things to do in Bethlehem. It was just wonderful. The docents were amazing (and friendly), I couldn't stump them. Very fun and informative.

Set in a large Bethlehem Steel Electrical Repair Shop, the display begins with large steam engines, many entrants to the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the evolution of steel in rails, structural beams and WW11 ships, then an area devoted to the Lehigh Valley Silk Mills which employed 45,000 women and children in 1914 and includes a beautiful early 20th C Jacquard Loom.
Excellent and engaging docents.
We were unaware of the daily guided 1 mile loop tour through the giant steel plant.

Very interesting museum, covers a lot of the industrial history of Bethlehem and naturally Bethlehem Steel which is right there. A mix of different industries and a nice gift shop. A great place to visit in spring or fall when you can walk along steel stacks,. Also be sure to see the gun barrel from the battleship which is nearby. National canal museum is not far either.

Plan to spend a few hours in awe of our ancestors engineering and mechanical capabilities! The museum is thoughtfully laid out and tells a great story of American industry. The displays are impressive.

Lots of vintage and unique, well-preserved machinery dating back to the industrial revolution. All displays were well-preserved and well organized. Every attendant we talked with were extremely knowledgeable. Cliff helped a lot: a very engaging and knowledgeable person. We had wanted to do this visit for a very long time and it was well worth it. Would have liked to see more of the BSC history and plant.

We really enjoyed this museum. Great exhibits about Bethlehem Steel (and Iron), silk, propane, and Robert Fulton. Very informative signs throughout. I learned a ton. The videos were also very good, but I wish they were a little bigger (they are just on small screens). It would be nice if there was like a 10 to 15 minute film to start off watching to give an overview of the entire period of the Industrial Revolution. The setting (amongst the former Bethlehem Steel complex) was incredible and really brought everything to life. Would highly recommend a visit here! I wish we had received a tour, but even our self-guided tour was great. It will be nice if they're able to open a second floor. Free parking right outside. We spent 90 minutes here. Tickets were $15 for adults, $10 for kids, which I thought was fair (not cheap, but not too expensive either). Perfect activity for a rainy day.

We took our teen boys and a friend here for Mother's Day. The museum was interesting with interactive exhibits and the docent that started us out was amazing as he had worked in that very building from 1980 to 1995 and had a lot of personal knowledge to share. It took us a little over an hour to see everything and talk with the docent and we will probably come back after the second floor exhibits are open to the public. Make sure that you make time to go across the street and explore the Hoover-Mason Trussle which took us another hour to explore because we stopped to read all the information plaques.

We are a family of 6. I was wondering if the museum currently offers any coupons?

I don't know. It's a Smithsonian Museum. The group ahead of us got a discount because they were members of the Smithsonian Museum though.

Is the museum suitable for children? And if so, what ages?
Skrevet 23. august 2016
I don't think this particular museum would hold a lot of interest for young children. Unless they have an unusual interest in engines and early machinery. None of the machine actually are moving - which I imagine wouldn't hold their interest.
