If you are looking to spend a long time at a museum, this is not the place to go! If you however want to just stroll for a bit and see some lovely Rodin (and other) statues, you will enjoy your visit.

One man's collection of Rodin works housed in a beautiful Cret-designed classical building is a jewel in the city of Brotherly Love! It truly was a joy to visit this museum devoted to the work of Auguste Rodin, one of the best sculptors of all time. The museum houses Rodin works big and small as well as some complementary works by others. Burgers of Calais, The Gates of Hell, The Thinker, Balzac, Adam and Eve, The Kiss, and much more! Walking in from the Parkway past The Thinker and into the sculpture garden with its secluded areas and reflecting pool, one can just imagine a bit of Rodin's Paris. We saw a bride and groom being photographed in the garden, a graduate being photographed on the steps beside The Thinker, a woman relaxing with her knitting in a corner of the sculpture garden. It's a shame that Mr. Mastbaum did not live to see his vision for this beautiful Beaux Arts building and his collection open to the public completed.

The Rodin Museum is small, but it is, after all, a museum devoted to a single artist, and the neoclassical building is perfectly suited for these neoclassical sculptures. It’s a pleasant space to take your time looking at the few dozen sculptures here, which include casts of all the famous Rodin works like the Thinker, the Kiss, the Burghers of Calais and the Gates of Hell.

August Rodin (1840-1917) is credited with reinventing European sculpture (viz., subject and surface treatment) and created thousands of works. The Philadelphia museum claims to be the largest public collection outside Paris, with 150 pieces. It has breadth (size, subject, material: bronze, marble, plaster) and individual placards are detailed, but it's not organized to show the trajectory of his career or workflow (viz., his clay model translated to a permanent material by assistants) -- that context might be left to tours, currently suspended. The museum's exclusive focus is his sculpture, not 2D works; there are a few related works by other artists.

Atmosphere and amenities: The Beaux-Arts-style building is rectangular, small (90x60 feet), one floor, and is set in a formal French garden (not very well maintained, as of July 2021). The interior has square pillars, arches, white/black/grey/gold colors, large windows and skylight; a half-dozen galleries; a few benches, plus a study room with chairs and table. The works (on shelves and plinths) are not crowded. There's a small gift shop, accessible entrance and restroom.

Price: You can visit this museum individually ($12 pay-as-you-wish) or with the Philadelphia Museum of Art ($25). If the latter, it's an easy walk (flattish, tree-shaded, 800 meters down Eakins Oval and the Ben Franklin Parkway); along the route are several tree-framed views of skyscrapers.

Outside your visit: To understand what you're looking at, do some reading first. The museum's online catalog can be searched only by title, not material; metadata are date, dimensions, material, weight, provenance.

Beautiful works displayed in spacious yet small museum. Quiet. Offer guest sketchbooks for use by visitors. Great Works of Rodin- well worth the visit!

The city's Rodin Museum, after being closed for renovation while simultaneously cleaning the stone exterior, has never looked better.  A source of great pride for Philadelphia, the museum is home to one of the largest collections of Auguste Rodin's works outside Paris. The iconic piece by Rodin, "The Thinker," still sits stoically at the museum's entrance.

One of his most famous sculptures, The Burghers of Calais, returned to the museum after months of extensive restoration.  Prior to the painstakingly detailed task, the famous sculpture appeared at Washington, DC's Hirshhorn Museum. And "The Kiss," although a copy, never fails to impress and is clearly the focus of the museum's interior atrium.

O local é maravilhoso, com uma das maiores coleções de obras do escultor Auguste Rodin. E que jardins!

The Rodin museum is in an open space, with a lot of sculptures in the garden. It is a lovely place to just sit down and admire the surroundings and it feels nice and secluded even though you are just a few feet away from the main road.
