I’ve been here twice in the past 2 years to visit the traveling exhibits. Last year we visited for the Harry Potter exhibit which was very nice, but very over crowded. They do the traveling exhibits by time slots, which are best reserved online. When we visited in March for the Disney 100 exhibit, I thought it would be a little different since we picked a night time slot. Although choosing a slot, they seem way oversold and there are too many people piling into the exhibit as once. Both exhibits were hard to navigate and to be able to take in everything/see everything since there were so many people looming around. The Harry Potter exhibit was interactive and very cool. Buy again- couldn’t enjoy because of the overcrowding. The same with Disney. Not so much interactive, but very crowded. Couldn’t take the time to stop and read the history. I felt like we had to rush through the rooms and areas and that I was constantly in someone’s way. I know the FI has nothing to do with traveling exhibits shops, but the Disney 100 was lacking. Very limited, very expensive, and not really many cute keepsakes. The FI itself is very nice and very interactive. We did visit the museum itself which is more geared towards kids with lots of hands on activities in each space. The museum is clean and well put together. Something that young kids would definitely enjoy. The FI does have its own parking garage which I do recommend parking in. Parking is expensive anywhere in that area of Philly, but you have a piece of mind knowing your vehicle is safe, and knowing you can go right from the museum to your vehicle safely.

Extremely rude field trip kids, but that's not the Franklin Institute's fault. Sensory backpacks are available and they are very helpful. Amazingly great staff. Every single employee I interacted with wasn't just nice, they would offer suggestions on how to enjoy our experience there even more. Very understanding of sensory issues. Exhibits were great and very hands on. Planetarium show was fun.

The building itself was fantastic but the exhibits were a little sparse, while very informative and would be great for young children to teens, not an overwhelming amount for adults. We attended the Disney 100 years exhibit and while it was great to see the memorabilia and see learn some more history, the actual exhibit space was hard to navigate and disconnected, in two separate spaces and confusing. I think it was mostly in some sort of order, we never quite figured it out.

We had discounted entrance fees for both the museum and Disney 100 exhibition. I’m not sure full price entry is value for money. Nonetheless we enjoyed our visit. We found the Disney exhibition very informative. The interactive side was a bit slow, and there was a fair bit of reading. Not for under 10s I would say.
The museum itself was great with most interactive displays working.
Now yes there were a few school trips but on the whole they behaved.
The Eatery was expensive but that was to be expected. Offset by reasonable (for town) underground parking.
Plenty helpful staf on hand.
Thoroughly recommend

We were only in town for the day and made a point of stopping in here for the Disney 100 exhibit. Yes, it's Disney. Yes, it trades on the spectacle that only Disney can give. But gosh, it's a great exhibit. Some movie props. Good context. The full 100 years. There's a lot to be inspired by. For the Disney-maniacs in my group - tons to draw their attention. Lots of look, look, look what's here! For the more moderate and less-well-versed Disney-philes, enough familiar and enough new to keep attention.
This is the second time I've attended a visiting exhibit at the Franklin Institute. The Institute really seems to know just how to be a perfectly gracious host for these exhibits.
Unfortunately, we were in too late in the day to see the exhibit and the collections of the Institute, so I can't speak on those. I can just say, I observed A LOT of happy kids and contented parents, so I can only surmise how engaging the collection and presentation are.
The parking garage is not easy to find even with GPS, and is - well - miserable. Tight, low, difficult. The "cafe" is a small take-away concessions snack bar.
Anyway you chalk it, however, I'd not hesitate to attend any special exhibition hosted here.

A HORRIFIC experience thanks to hundreds of loud, obnoxious, unrulely kids. TOTALLY inappropriate for adults or anyone who wants to learn and explore. It is consistently a giant playground for poorly behaved kids.

This place is overpriced and outdated! $25 for entrance and want another $45 for the special exhibition! Place is trash none of the interactive exhibits work! Cafe is ridiculously expensive! Only positive it’s not very crowded, most likely because of quality

Fair at best. four or five ooms with some Disney items. The Disney Museum in California is one hundred times better. Save your money.

This review is just for the Disney 100 special exhibit evening hours. We had a 6:30pm entry. When I called on the phone, they said the exhibit takes about 90 minutes and that it closes at 8:00pm.
It does take time to get into the actual exhibit since they let a few people into the exhibit at a time. I think we waited 15-20 minutes. However, this meant that we didn't technically have 90 minutes to see the exhibit. I was done before 8:00pm anyway, but I'm curious how long they let people stay (it didn't seem like they were going to kick everyone out at 8:00pm).
I attended a sold out time slot and there were too many people in the first few rooms. They do let small groups in at a time to space people out, but it's difficult when everyone is trying to read the same couple of signs. I ended up skipping most of the signs in the first room becuase it was too hard to read them. After the first few rooms, people naturally spread out since the rooms are larger and there's more to see.
The exhibit was well done and it was great to see so many pieces from the Disney archives. As others have said, while there are some interactive elements, it's not designed for kids (which may be confusing to some, since it's in a children's museum). It takes about 60 minutes if you're not reading/listening to everything. But I think 90 minutes seems average. I could see spending 2 hours in there if you wanted to do everything, but I found it was a lot to take in in one visit (besides the crowds in the first few rooms).
The merchandise in the gift shop at the end wasn't strong... I was surprised! A few Disney 100 exhibit items, but mostly Disney stuff you can also get elsewhere (so not exclusive to the exhibit).

Love the museum and on the whole it's a great trip for adults and kids alike with lots of interactive things to engage kids. HOWEVER. The Disney 100 exhibit is NOT child friendly. There are a lot of huge block texts to read and very little interactive components. It is VERY history and information focused which is awesome for adult and teen Disney lovers, but children will be bored. And cry. There were a lot of bored crying children around. Please just take my word for it, I've worked with kids professionally for years.

Is there usually a line to get in on Saturday’s?

Weekends can become busy, and there is a line inside the museum for tickets/passes. If you don't want it to affect your museum time, I would recommend arriving 30 minutes to an hour early on purpose.

Is there a water filling station for bringing empty water bottles to stay hydrated?
Does anyone know with the dual membership for one adult plus one guest is that one guest included everytime you go or just a 1 time offer with membership?

Is it possible to purchase a movie only ticket for the IMax theater without the museum admission tickets? Where can I find the info about which movie is on and when it starts? Thank you.

We are planning to go to TerraCotta Exhibit tonight at 5pm - is this a good time or will it be packed? Also, any recommendations for places to eat or other things to do nearby (since its so cold we don't want to walk too much)? Thanks

I maybe too late to answer your question, but I went to exhibit on an after 5pm admission. It was fine. The staff controls admission so that exhibit is never crowded and is more extensive than DC
Presentation is great and very detailed! Restaurants all over as well as Whole Foods with a great buffet and some small specific food stalls (i.e. Chinese, Mediterranean)
