Actually children's museum
nov. 2021
This museum should have children's museum in the title. I was expecting information about Ben Franklin's inventions. It is actually an interactive museum for children. I gave it a poor rating because if you do not have children with you it's a waste of money. We left after 20 minutes. So not worth the cost to us.

Disappointing
jun. 2021 • Par
This museum was underwhelming to say the least and not at all what we expected. While it may have been interesting to children, for adults it had little or nothing to offer. It should be advertised for young children only. Many of the exhibits are poorly made and anything that was interactive didn’t seem to work. We left after 15 minutes.

Great place for kids and adults.
okt. 2021
The Franklin Institute was not originally on our list of things to do in Philadelphia but after taking a city tour on the Hop on Hop off bus and hearing rave reviews from the guide we decided to visit -- and boy howdy, were we glad we did. The Franklin Institute ended up being the most memorable attraction of our visit. Our two favorite exhibits were the giant heart and electricity.
We loved everything about the heart exhibit but the spiral of animal hearts and the animal heart rate exhibit were my favorites. My wife was interested in the open heart surgery film and the blood volume by weight calculator as well as the walk through giant heart itself.
We also caught a show in the planetarium and visited Foucault's pendulum several times throughout our visit to calculate the earths rotation (pin drops) throughout the day.
There were live demonstrations and shows geared toward children in many areas of the hands-on museum.
It is a great place to visit or kids of all ages, from 6 to 76 years of age.

I am always impressed by this wonderful museum. It has some permanent exhibits, but also has changing ones with very interesting topics, such as a model of the human heart which you can actually walk/climb through. As a railroad fan, I enjoyed this exhibit very much. Highly reocommend!

Exceptional Science Museum
aug. 2021
This is the best science museum I've ever been to. We are from Boston and members of the MOS there so we used our reciprocal admission to visit the Franklin Institute. We've been to nearly every reciprocal museum in 9 states and 2 provinces in Canada and this was our favorite. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and ready to answer any question we had. The exhibits were top notch and nearly all were interactive which my children loved. My husband and I had fun also and he has an aero/astro degree from MIT and I'm a pharmacist. We still learned things. The science demonstrations and planetarium shows were amazing also, don't miss any! We spent a full seven hours here and my kids were asking to go back as soon as we left. I'm not gonna lie, I can't wait to go back also.

Been 30 years since coming here and still impressed

It’s good to go back and refresh or relearn what we may have forgotten. The information presented here makes it simple from a youngster to someone such as myself (46y/o). My 19 y/o niece really enjoyed it as well.

A kids paradise

This place was awesome. It is the perfect place for kids to learn hands on. And since I’m a big kid and love science I had a great time exploring all the exhibits. I especially like the exhibit about the brain and optical illusions. I do not have kids but I still learned a lot from my experience.

Great quality museum with character

We go to a lot of science museums, and this is a great one. Yes, it is expensive, but the price is in line with similar museums. The parking underneath the museum is a good price, for city parking. The quality of the exhibits ranged from good to excellent, and we appreciated the grandness of the building's architecture and the connection to city history. An extra bonus is the planetarium show, which is included with the regular price of admission. We opted to pay the extra $12/person to visit the Crayola exhibit, which was worth it for us because my kids are really into art and creative stuff. However, there is plenty to fill a day without paying for the extra exhibit, so I wouldn't bother unless it was particularly interesting to you. Most of the exhibits were in good working order (a couple were awaiting repairs, but that's standard at any museum) and it was not crowded (we visited mid week).

So much to do! The big heart, the solar system, plenty of hands-on experiences for kids to experiment with. Only downside was extensive line for planetarium viewing, so we skipped it. Everyone walked away more knowledgeable about our universe and ourselves.

Parking was hard to find, so we found a street lot a few blocks away.

A very nice place to take the kids for science. Watch the performances on the main square by a couple of college age youth. Lots of hands on science stuff.
