It's a fun walk. There are plenty of places to stop and eat or shop. This street felt alive as we walked through. It does get very busy

Check out PAFA, Claes Oldenberg’s Sculpture, and MORE. There are art stores, murals, Bohemian shops, restaurants, and museums. If taking an art break gives you some peace, you may really benefit from visiting this part of Philadelphia.

My hotel was located on the Avenue of the Arts. The block consisted of theaters, restaurants, a subway stop, hotels, and awesome views of city hall. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to stop and look around because as a solo traveler I didn't want to stand out as a tourist. There were lots of panhandlers and opportunists standing around. The avenue is simply is a street that houses lots of theaters, parking garages, and hotels.

While walking down the street i enjoyed looking at the various buildings. The galleries are a must for art person which i am not, Also there are plenty of the theaters are worth a visit .Also there are various shopping placesl.

Walking down the Avenue of the Arts toward City Hall I have often glanced at this imposing deep red brick building at the corner of the Avenue and Sansom St. I assumed that it was a private club for distinguished Philadelphians. But as I learned there is more to this Beaux Arts architectural masterpiece than meets the eye. The Union League of Philadelphia, the iron marker outside the building explains, was founded in 1862 as a patriotic society supporting President Lincoln’s effort to preserve the Union. Since then the mandate of the Union to serve multiple civic and philanthropic causes has expanded to include, for example, citizenship education and scholarships for post-high school education that various in-house foundations administer. All this is expertly explained in the Union League’s Heritage Center which is open to the public on a regular schedule.
Philadelphia is a deeply historical city, and I found it very worthwhile to stop here not only to admire this splendid building but also to learn more about the Union League’s continued civic involvement in the 21st century. When I visited on a sunny afternoon, it also graciously served as backdrop for a wedding picture.

We managed to arrive in the City on the dates of Graduation from the Academy of Music which created a great atmosphere. The Kimmel Centre and other venues are on this avenue. Good also to enjoy the memorial plaques let into the side walks. Not many places you can see Mario Lanza next to Bill Haley.

If, on Wednesday afternoon, October 4, you find yourself on Broad Street heading south toward the Kimmel Center and beyond, stop and see the ceremonies sponsored by the Philadelphia Music Alliance to initiate the members of its Class of 2017 that includes assigning them their shiny plaque on the sidewalk. This year’s honorees include Jill Scott, Sister Sledge, McFadden&Whitehead, and others. They join earlier honorees such as Marian Anderson, Billy Holiday, and Eugene Ormandy and Leopold Stokowski, legendary music directors of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Brass tarnishes quickly in our humid summer weather and so scores of busy scrubbers have been enlisted to give a new shine to existing plaques, in the process becoming tourist attractions themselves.

Went for an event at the Union League all the way down to Philadelphia, and thanks to this event I finally got a chance to explore this famous arts avenue in downtown Philly.
As an art-based signature street in Philly, it's grown to be a heart of the city in many ways. The museums and galleries are a must on your list, plenty of the theaters are worth a visit and the others like the restaurants and shopping places are great to go as well.
So regret that I didn't stand in the middle of the street and take a typical tourist photo. Anyways, it's always a reason for me to go back.
