This was the best museum we visited while in Alaska! It gave a great history of the natives and Alaska history. The movies were excellent!

The UAF museum is a great collection of Alaskan artifacts and has a very interactive experience. The kids enjoy doing the scavenger hunts they have setup within the museum along with the learning area upstairs.

The exhibits and their curation are impressive. A stop here will provide a comprehensive view of Alaska and its peoples. There's also art, several films and a 'listening room' that needs to be heard to be believed. Lovely building. Clean toilets. Free WiFi. The cafe needs a better selection: Just coffee and some sugary pastries.

I read a lot about this museum and everyone raved about it. We put this on the itinerary to do because of the reviews.
We pulled into the carpark which was a frozen ice rink and got a park. Luckily there wasn't to many cars in there as it was really slippery. The walk to the entrance was fun trying to stay upright.
The museum was fairly small. It had a few ok displays. It wasn't the extraordinary experience that a lot of people said.
The best part was the show on the Aurora. It was informative and well put together.
It had some lovely local native art.
It had a weird display, "the place where you go to listen", it didn't do it for me.
We didn't stay to long as there wasn't enough to keep you there for an extended period.
It was OK, it is worth a quick look but you only need an hour maximum to see it.
Its not a must see, but a good stop gap place if you run out of things to do.

The museum is small but packed with a lot of information about Alaska from
Animals to the gold rush to World War II internment of Japanese to the pipeline . Very interesting and we learned a lot more about Alaska. It has art works upstairs but we had no time to go

Despite everything you read otherwise......you CANNOT see Bus 142 at the Museum of the North. It is hidden away at the U of Alaska somewhere but it is not on display at the museum. They said that....despite it being there since 2020....they have yet to build a display....so if you travel there to see it.....you will not be able to.

Otherwise, this is a great museum with lots of neat displays. Some of the fossils on display were animals I did not even know existed. The architecture of the museum itself is very impressive too.

Small collection of stuff - a little disjointed. Not all is about Alaska. 2 most impressive exhibits was the Grizzley Bear (you understand just how big they get) and Blue Babe - a mummified muskox.

This is a great place to start your visit to Fairbanks. It gives you an overview of the history of the area, including the people and animals. It’s not overly big so a couple of hours is enough. It’s very clean and bright and the staff is friendly and helpful. It’s also on the university campus which is a lovely place to see. Definitely worth a visit!

OK, first off, we are museum people, so if you don't like museums in general, then perhaps this won't be for you.

We spent several days in Fairbanks and the museum is really the only place we ventured out to visit. This museum is exceptionally well done. Starting with the beautiful building that was modern and squeaky clean (you know how some museums feel and smell musty? Not the case here!) We also appreciated the coat room so we didn't have to lug around our heavy jackets.

What we really loved about this museum was how they successfully integrated items from prehistory, history, natural history as well as contemporary art all in mixed displays. Rather than separating them into individual sections, or even in a progressive timeline, they emphasized the connection between these elements by mixing them in a way that if I hadn't viewed it in action I may have been skeptical about. I believe this format may even keep those who don't get excited about museums, or have short attention spans engaged. :)

They had an interesting interactive display on Bus 142 (of "Into the Wild" fame) which I had vaguely remembered hearing a story on how it had been removed from its location due to curious folks trying to find it in the wilderness and getting lost, injured, or dying. Turns out it was relocated to this museum. The interactive display showed all the work going into the restoration. I'm not sure if the bus is on display outside yet or not (I think not, we didn't see it but as it was rather cold we didn't wander the grounds). But that will be of interest to some I'm sure.

There were also movies on offer (but we didn't view any) and I think an interactive section for kids (I didn't poke my head in) as well as an audio room which was relaxing and interesting to contemplate. Finally, the staff were very friendly, and even provided us with a bit of direction on the city bus schedule. :)

I've been coming to this museum for a couple of years during the summer months. It's a great museum to walk around and somewhere in the museum there's a sound room don't know how to explain it, it is a claiming sound. There's a little Cafe in the museum
