What an excellent afternoon at the aquarium. The new Shark exhibit is wonderful.

I spent the afternoon at the NY Aquarium in Coney Island and what a delightful day of seeing the animals and fish, watching a very entertaining Seal show and walking through the new Shark exhibit and tanks. It was really a nice visit as the whole aquarium has been updated and refreshed since it almost got destroyed during Hurricane Sandy.

All the animals, the penguins, otters and seals were all outside and active on this warm sunny afternoon and very playful. The seals were swimming around entertaining people. During the show, one of the seals who had been born at the aquarium, seemed almost human since he was so used to being around people. He really got the crowd moving.

The new Shark exhibition and the large visual tanks is very interesting. You got to walk under where the sharks were swimming and their interaction with other fish and sea life. They are fascinating displays to describe their lives in the ocean and the very painful experience of having their fins cut off for soup. It really showed how we can destroy the oceans with acts of abuse on the wildlife. It was an eye opener how sharks have their effect on the cycle of life in the oceans.

The other fish and coral exhibits show what is happening in the oceans today with things like bleaching and over-fishing and how the aquarium are working with the industry to change life and make people aware of life in the oceans. They do it in a way that is entertaining and informative.

Molto carino da visitare con i bambini.
Una bella esperienza!
C'è anche un'ampia zona dove si può mangiare, sia comprato li che portato da casa per i bimbi più piccoli. Ci sono i seggioloni e bagni con fasciatoio.
Bello lo spettacolo con i leoni marini. Molto affascinante il tunnel degli squali!

A Big Disappointment

My husband and I visited the aquarium and were very disappointed in it. It was a lot smaller than we anticipated. We asked for a map and were told we had to use our phone to get it. We are not very tech savvy so this did not work for us. We did give it a try but found the map not to be that useful. Mostly is was trial and error finding things. We also found that some of the displays were too small for its inhabitants. When we did ask for help a couple of times, the staff were not very friendly.

Excelente opción para entretenerse una mañana. Es un paseo de aproximadamente 3 horas y hay atracciones muy interesantes. Sin embargo hay que ir con una expectativa moderada para disfrutarlo.

Charmed by "Bruiser" during the Sea Lion Encounter at the NY Aquarium!

Don't miss the Sea Lion Encounter at the NY Aquarium! My daughter loves animals and as a birthday present I got us tickets . It was fantastic! To be so close to such an amazing animal was a real treat. We met "Bruiser" and were completely charmed by him! The staff took photos of each member of the group standing next to him (you cannot touch, of course) while he hammed it up for the camera. We learned a lot about sea lions and seals from the trainers. There were only 7 people in our group that morning. and while we spent the entire day there, the encounter with Bruiser was the absolute highlight. Overall the Aquarium is really interesting and well-laid out. It's neat to see the sea otters, penguins, seals, etc. on the surface and then walk underneath to observe them from below. The shark tunnel was cool, too. Afterwards we walked the Coney Island Boardwalk. It was super fun and we're adults, by the way. It was my daughter's 22nd birthday :) The Sea Lion Encounter was well worth the extra ticket. We felt it was money well spent and for a great cause.

A gem on Coney Island

After the disappointment of Luna Park, the boardwalk, Coney Island and it's beach it was a delight to get in to the aquarium. We used our sight seeing pass to get in despite the information saying we were supposed to register 24hrs in advance.

The seals were great to watch and the penguins would have been too of they weren't so smelly. The only problem is the angle on the glass means when looking underwater we can see our reflection and not the animals.

The seal display was interesting but was not subtle in ramming the environmental impact of humans on us.

The shark and invertebrate houses were very informative and well laid out despite their small size. The exhibits are generally good with plenty of pretty fish.

For and drink is available in the cafeteria. It's basic not expensive and tasty.

Waste of money
Waste of money and time, the only good thing was you could see the sea lions and seals up close. The show was a joke and there was a huge lack of sea animals

Very Disappointing

Very disappointed in this tiny aquarium! Most of the tanks were filthy with chunks of algae floating around. Even the glass were covered in algae making it very difficult to see anything! Some of the exhibit tanks were empty and some advertised animals were nowhere to be found; like sea tortoise. One jelly fish in a tank? Really? Will never go back.
