Fantastic views BUT only do this if you have time to spare. I got up at 5am for a 5.30 pick up and arrived at the temple 6am. My ticket number was 121 and they were photographing number 17. I didn't get my photo taken until 10.15. I was really surprised by how long it took. The photographers allow couples and groups to have four or five different poses together (as well as several poses individually) some people take their time to walk up to the archway and despite having waited for hours had to think about their different poses. A consistent gripe about all the tourist sites in Bali is the time spent waiting for people to finish their instagram poses. Also the photographers all hold mirrors up so if you want a natural shot remember to tell them to take one without.
Aside from having to wear a sarong and having water splashed on my head the site didn't feel as holy as I expected because of the hordes of people waiting for photographs and there wasn't any information provided about the background or cultural significance. The most special moment was watching some worshippers climb the stairs to enter the temple through the doors.
In summary, visit for the view but consider if you have time for the photograph which is essentially the only activity. There's a restaurant where the little buses drop you off which also does photographs and amazing pineapple pancakes.

This is our experience as visitors to Bali for 40 years. This is an example of a significant cultural and religious location being used for nothing more than a photo opportunity. You get charged 45000 IDR for a short bus ride to the temple then 55000 IDR to enter the temple to be given a number for a photo opportunity. Join the 2 hour wait. That wasn’t what we were there for. No learnings about the location offered but you can take photos in a gorillas hand or a boat. It’s quite disturbing that this is what Bali has come to and found it very upsetting.

I woke early in order to make my way to this temple. I was aware that this site is very popular as it's a popular in Instagram by the famous picture shots with mirror. Keep in mind that you get a queue number to get those famous pictures therefore the average waiting time is between 3 to 4 hours even if you get there in the morning. This temple is important worship for Balinese people and sadly the high volume of waiting tourists to get the famous pictures kind of ruins the spiritual vibe of the place. If you explore the temple you can get the exact picture shots with the mirrors down by the stairs as many tourists are unaware of that. At least there's a few places where you have a bite or a coffee while waiting and enjoying the view of aera from the mountain. In other words if you want those famous pictures taken be very patient and don't plan nothing else for your day.

Wir sind morgens früh los und hatten alle Infos aus dem Internet parat. Bei der Ankunft wurden wir dann mit "neuen Regularien" überrascht. 45000 IDR mussten wir für den Transport zum Gate bezahlen, da wir am Fuß des Berges parken MUSSTEN (Straßensperre und sehr eindeutige Menschen...). Vor dem Tempel war dann nochmal eine Gebühr von 55000 IDR fällig. Um halb 6 waren wir oben mit der Nummer 12. Man darf selbst keine Bilder machen, allerdings sitzt dort ein Fotograf der sich das Handy geben lässt, um Fotos zu machen. Für uns mit professioneller Kamera eher unbefriedigend. Den Sarong, den man tragen muss, darf man übrigens nicht ausziehen- was für einige, die sich extra hübsch gemacht und tolle Kleider angezogen hatten, sehr schade war.

Der Tempel ist wenig spektakulär und es geht nur um dieses eine Foto. Wir haben uns noch einige andere Stellen gesucht, um selbst Fotos zu machen. Als wir um 8 Uhr wieder gingen, war Nummer 45 dran. Es kann also dauern...

Geheimtipp: Wenn man statt zum Tempel links abzubiegen die Straße weiter hoch läuft, kommt man zum "Heavens Garden". Für 30.000 IDR kann man hier nochmal drei tolle Locations shooten.

Worst experience in Bali

I visited this supposedly praised “instagrammable” location at the end of march 2023. My experience was no where near as memorable as what they are often said to be. The 2 hours of waiting just to take a few photos standing in between the iconic entrance to heaven are no less than whimsical. the area is small, no side activites are provided further leaving the customers in the sun, waiting for a few mediocre shots. Disregarding the fact that menstruating women are not allowed to enter the temple which no one seemed to mention before I ended up visiting, as well as the double payment ritual. 1 pay for bus ride up and seperate pay for entrance to the temple. If you have no precious time to spare, I absolutely reccomend.

Great and accommodating

We arrived the at exactly 9am and finished at around 12NN. Its a bit of long hours waiting but it is all worth the wait when we saw all the pictures captured to us. i also want to acknowledge our tour guide whos very hands on to us, answering questions about their culture because we and my partner were very ethusiastic to learn their culture. Bli DEWA helped us to learn a lot, and there wasnt any dead air, having him as our tour guide. Kudos, brother and to the company.

Recommended come earlier and sunny weather

I had to queue for 1,5 hours for taking photos by the local photographer using my phone camera. The photos were taken using reflection by photographer's phone screen. The photos were taken so far away because it must have the view of the gate. It's recommended when the weather was sunny so that you can see Mount Agung view from the gate. Please wear proper clothes and you all must wear sarung.

ดังนั้นท่านที่มุ่งมั่นจะมาต้องมีความอดทนพร้อมกับมีเวลามากพอเพราะต้องรอคิวนานมากถึงมากที่สุดโดยเฉพาะฤดูกาลท่องเที่ยว เพราะต้องรอคิวไปถ่ายภาพได้ครั้งละ1ท่าน เค้าจะให้เวลาไม่เกิน2นาที โพสต์ท่าไปเลยรัวๆ อย่าหยุดตากล้องก็จะถ่ายภาพให้รัวๆ แต่ถ้าต้องให้เค้าบอกโพสต์ท่า และรอเค้าบอกเป็นระยะ ท่านจะได้ภาพเพียงแค่ไม่เกิน4-5ภาพ เท่านั้นเอง

Was two hours travel from ubud , 3 hours on the way back due to traffic . 3 hours wait for photos which are taken with your mobile phone . It's a nice place but I would have left it if I knew all that

Go early otherwise it’s overrun with tourists

The gate is probably the most iconic or famous scene in Bali unfortunately it’s mostly a work of fiction. The temple is overrun in tourists. They hand out numbers for people to take the photo. There is no water just clever camera work and you can wait hours for the picture.

Lots of other temples of similar level of intrigue exist.
