Aware of the fact that there are at least three different hot spring locations in this part of the country, it was Santa Teresa that was recommended by our guide (if only because it was really the only one he’d ever been to) — so we came here. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed.

PROS:

- only $10 to get in
- much larger than we were expecting
- it wasn’t overly busy when we arrived (around 3:30PM on a Thursday afternoon), with a good mix of locals and foreign tourists
- very nice atmosphere: very relaxing and a large enough complex where you can find yourself away from other people for awhile if you want

CONS:

- the main pools don’t feel overly natural — rather, more like we were in warmed-up, chlorinated swimming pools
- the mud pools (more natural hot springs) are a fair way from the main complex, and you may have to ask someone to actually help you find them
- you have to pay $10 extra to access the “special mud”, which we weren’t aware of when we first paid to enter the complex
- super disappointing that none of the pools have any temperatures listed on them — it’s definitely a case of “try it and you’ll find out for yourself”
- I didn’t bring a towel and had read online that you can rent one for $15 — it’s actually only $5 (from the main bar near the change rooms), but another expense to consider
- the entire complex is very poorly sign-posted and as a result, wayfinding was difficult
- there is only one VERY small change room with two toilets and one shower for women (not sure if the men’s is the same) — for the number of people in the complex, this was a joke and the line was always long … plus the fact the doors are glass so everyone can see you changing as they walk past!?!

The Termales of Santa Teresa has improved tremendously since a few years ago When I first visited.
I visited the place with my elder parents late 80’s and we had no issues walking for my dad.
To start, the access to the resort is very accessible by paved road. You can drive your car up to the front entrance to the restaurant and resort.
At the entrance of the resort, you pay the fee to get in. There are a couple of choices. I opted for $25 entry. That fee included access to all the pools, lunch, and mineral mud and natural sauna treatment.

Been a Sunday, the place was pretty busy but it is big enough not to feel crowded.
We arrived to the resort at around 1 PM and rented a day cabana for $50. That gave us privacy and a place for my dad to take a nap. The room is a few steps from a couple of pool. It has no A/C but a couple of fans will work for us since we were there for only a few hours. It has clean shower and two twin beds. Although, you do not need to rent a room, they have changing rooms for you to change and many many picnic tables around the pools where you leave your belongings while enjoying the pools.

The first pool we went was the one near cabana Suiza that pool was nice and warm and the one next to it was a little cold. At this place they sell Minutas for $1.50 ice shaved with flavored syrups.

The pools are naturally filled from hot springs water that run from top pools all the way down and out…all natural no chemicals used at all.

At around 4:30pm we walked to the spa area for our mineral mud treatment.
It was a little challenge for my 88 years old dad to walk the dirt road but Little by little he mange to get there stopping on the way to observe the trees and flowers.
At the spa we met Zoila, she works that area, and was very informative and attentive, specially to my dad. She went the extra mile to even tie my dad shoes when he came out of the pool…her big smile and friendliness really created a great memories to us….

once we got to the spa area, Zoila explained to use the use of the two types of mineral muds…
First into the natural hot spring sauna for 5 minutes to open your pores then the mineral mud for the body and face then 10 more minutes in the sauna and finally to the hot spring pool to remove the mud… we spend a good while here since it was so relaxing.
Walking back was as I mentioned before challenging to my dad but easy walk for us in the 50-60s.
Back to the restaurant to have our lunch and a couple of drinks.
Food and service were very very good… between my parents and I, we ordered Tilapia with garlic sauce, pork loin and chicken breast grilled…the dishes come with rice, fresh vegetables and 2 fried tortillas…
We all really enjoyed our food and the nice ladies working there….
After lunch at around 6:15pm we checked out and drive back to San Salvador….

At no point in time we have felt unsafe here or around our trip.

It is said that “behind a good man there is a great woman” and this is a great example of that….After the visionary was called to take the road to eternal life, his wife continued the project and she keeps it running for the enjoyment of national and international tourists.

Definitely recommend this place as a great way to enjoy a relaxing afternoon ….

Ci sono andato in un giorno un po' nuvoloso, quindi ho trovato i Termales de Santa Teresa un posto triste. Costo (10,00USD) troppo alto.Vasche non sempre pulite.

Poor experience and dirty pools. It’s a harsh 1 star or a generous 2 star in my opinion. I gave this the benefit of the doubt in this case awarding it two stars. There is only really 3 pools you can use as the others and either out of service or very very dirty and we were not for getting in them, nor would any hygienic person. The staff didn’t speak to us once nor ask if we wanted a drink - on their phones the whole time. This place has potential but if I was you I wouldn’t waste a day going here.

Truly enjoyed our visit to San Teresa. Though we visited on a Saturday afternoon and stayed till late it was very quiet. We had almost all pools to ourselves. Enjoyed mud without paying the extra fee. Entrance is quite expensive ($10) though worthwhile visiting. Very green, friendly staff, many different pools and designs. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks.

The road to get here is not paved, and very bumpy. But, you can easily spend half a day here. There are several pool of varying heat. Mini waterfalls that you can swim under. And the food in the restaurant is really good. Highly recommended.
