The ferry and the river walk were so fun! The ferry was air conditioned and smooth sailing and there was a mall near there too

Great trip across the river. Great price, tip: get a jazzy pass for unlimited ride on ferry, busses & cable cars in New Orleans.

Super quick and easy. If you get the day pass you can utilize the ferry, bus, and streetcar. We used it 4 times while staying at Algiers point.

The point of the ferry is not to sightsee (although, you do get a beautiful view of the city day or night). It's a 10 minute trip. The point is to make parking in New Orleans EASY and CHEAP. The fact that it's a nice ride on the upper deck is icing on the cake.
There is a paid parking lot near the terminal, but I don't know who falls for that. The street parking all in all of the neighborhoods around the parking lot is free. Easy walk to the terminal. The ferry is clean and actually quite nice. You can bring bikes and strollers on the ferry.
For $3 (adults), $1 (kids), $0 under 5 (?) you can purchase a Jazzy pass and not only ride the ferry back and forth that day, but hop on any street car or bus you find yourself in front of. The only hassle is that you either have to buy your jazzy pass in advance on the app or have exact change at the ferry terminal.
Speaking of the app, it does quite efficiently allow you to type in the desired destination and view public transportation routes.
We took the ferry across, walked the French Quarter, hopped on a bus to City Park, took the streetcar back to the ferry, and the ferry back across to Algiers, where our car was parked, all for the price of that one day jazzy pass.
The employees working the ferry weren't the friendliest, but they got the job done.
We stayed at Bayou Segnette State Park and drove from there, but I know there are multiple Airbnbs in Algiers and the ferry makes it easy to take advantage of those less expensive lodging options and still enjoy the city.

A very inexpensive ride. Short. You cross Mississippi. It is used by a lot of locals. Is that why such neglect?

Only $2 to cross the river on the Ferry. They take cash. We did a round trip. The other side is close to a neighborhood. There’s some paid parking on a dirt lot or you can park for free on the side of the street. The ride was not very long. Maybe 10 minutes.

We got on I asked the first guy if round trip was still open since it was the week of fatTuesday and he said yes. I confirmed and paid for passes for a group only to be told by the second guy that that was a mistake and that we would be stranded on the island which resulted in us not going and not being able to get a refund either

Buying a trolley pass gets you onto the buses and ferry. Go over to Old Algiers. It is the second oldest city. Do the jazz walk. Quaint. Lots of jazz greats on the walk. A secret discovered!

The ferry leaves New Orleans at the bottom of Canal St., crosses the Mississippi River to Algiers, and returns. There are two docking points, one on each side of the river.

I would say yes. I seem to recall there are ramps leading to the ferry on both sides of the river.
