We had a great day out with Chilkoot.
We did the Yukon Rail and Bus excursion where the train took us up to Fraser border crossing and then the bus took over taking us to the Caribou Trading Post as well as several viewing sites along the way before returning back to Skagway.
The train journey is very scenic and being on a smaller tour, our group of about 20 had a whole carriage to ourselves.
Our Chilkoot guide was very engaging and full of interesting stories that made the bus part of the tour both interesting and informative.
Quite a full day but a day worth doing.

Chilikoot White Pass railroad/bus tour, expansion bridge, was a wonderful experience! so glad I booked it through them! We were going on a princess Cruise to Alaska inside passage and excursions on their website were booked. Our friends recommended this company as they had just used it 3 weeks prior. Anyway, I just have to say after meeting Heidi and working with her on this reservation I will always book through this company as long as it's through her. She is one of the sweetest, helpful, kindness people I have met. And when we finally met at the pier she gave me a big hug and remembered me. Mainly, because I had a little panic on whether I was going to get back on the ship in time and she reassured me that they guarantee and everything will be fine LOL. She is just absolutely amazing!! I can't wait to see you again Heidi!! Also double kudos for James the driver of our bus that took us up and then we of course took the train back. James is Irish and told amazing stories and some history. He was the sweetest most informative and enjoyable driver on any tour I've been on!! Thank you James!! Also, if you do the expansion bridge, don't forget to have the bison chili and roll in the little store before you head to the bridge. It was awesome!!

My family did the Yukon Klondike Adventure and it was absolutely incredible. The pictures don’t do it justice and I didn’t get pictures of the puppies or the sheep, but super cool. Our guide, Scotty was great at getting everyone involved, all 11 of us which you know you’re not getting that small of a group on a cruise line sponsored tour. I thought he was a hoot, and he serenaded us with his rendition of Rodger Miller’s king of the road.
While this next part was in no way “cool”, it was (to me) the most impressive thing I’ve seen from a company. On our way back to Skagway one of their divers experienced a medical emergency which caused a single car accident. Our driver stopped and made sure everyone got out of the vehicle safely and, with the assistance of medical personnel that were on tour, made sure that anyone needing first aid was tended to until first responders arrived. Additionally they called in another driver on her day off (shout out to Jenny!) who got to us from Skagway to get the people that didn’t need to remain on site were taken back to port. She remained completely professional and as “cheerful” as you’d expect a tour guide to be on a normal tour but after she got us all back to port you could tell that she, like Scotty, was seriously affected by their colleague and friend being injured and turned right around to go back to see how else she could help. All of that and we were only an hour later getting back to port than scheduled, which still was at least 2 hours before the all aboard of the earliest ship one of us was on.
TL:DR - Amazing tours run by employees who are fun, yet professional, and respond quickly and compassionately in an emergency situation. Exactly the type of people you’d want to be leading you in an emergency and I can not recommend this company, their tours, and their tour guides highly enough. If you’re in Skagway, take one of their tours. If I’m back in town I absolutely will.

Awesome communication and guides on the White Pass - Yukon Territory train excursion.
Anne was excellent with her storytelling and information on her bus. Just a great personality for her role!

Booked the WhitePass Rail and Bus tour and did the train up to Frasier and the bus back to Skagway. We somehow lucked out that a cruise boat was unable to dock that day and another family didn't show up so our family of 3 had a private tour with Mike! He was incredible!! His knowledge of the area was great, he kept us engaged with interesting facts, and my daughter had so much fun racing him to be the first one back on the bus. So fun! And can definitely tell he loves the job! He also got us the end car on the train and we had it all to ourselves! Only downside for the day was the patches of rain and fog we had but nothing they could do about that ;)
Thank you Mike and Chilkoot Tours! When we come back to Alaska we'll definitely be booking with them again!!

We did the 7.5 hour "bus up/rail back" Yukon excursion, booking directly with Chilkoot. We'd done the shorter version pre-Covid and wanted to do the longer trip this time, and had a terrific time. Pre-trip communication was very good; where to meet them was clear, as was the instruction to bring passports (and they checked when we met the driver.) We were at the Ore dock and met driver Matt in the parking lot, then picked up cruisers on another ship. We made a number of stops for photos and bathroom breaks while Matt gave us a lot of info on the gold rush and the area. Lunch at Wild Adventure Yukon was BBQ chicken, slaw, rolls, roasted potatoes, coffee or water and donuts. Better than we expected for a touristy stop. It was horrible weather so we didn't do much other than eat and look at the sled dogs (cute puppies!) Brief stop at Emerald Lake, then got on the train at Fraser. The rain/fog meant less spectacular views on the ride down, but still very enjoyable ride back to Skagway. Matt met us there and drove people back to the ships, right on time. The landslide is still impacting road travel - only one lane open and vehicles are escorted in a chain, so we had to wait a bit (the slide is so huge, it's astounding they have it open at all.) But the entire trip still ran like clockwork and we really enjoyed the scenery and Matt's narration. He was a great tour guide and we loved the entire day.

We did the bus to Fraser and train back. Our guide was Anne. She was very informative and funny! We loved the scenic stops for photos along the way. The train rise was fun too! This company is well organized, affordable, and delivers amnexcellent tour. Highly recommend them!

Very happy with our 3.5 hr smallbus/van trip up and train back down. Our driver was from Ireland and very knowledgeable.
It rained some going up but we still enjoyed the trip . We were hesitant to book this as we had 5 days on a land tour with many busses and trains before it.
It was a very different experience and we enjoyed it!

They are terrible ripoff. Beware of this tour operator. They do not honor their tickets. Our tour party wasted over $4000

Is taking the tour that has the train first better or is the tour that has bus first better? (Better, as in better for viewing wildlife and scenery). Any drawbacks for one over the other?

we are going to be in port on July 23 and we are interested in booking a tour after departing our ship on our cruise. Let me know how we can book tour for the Yukon Rail and Bus Adventure in Skagway
Skrevet 22. februar 2024
I booked them online. Very simple with credit card!

If you get dropped off in town after the train/bus tour, where do they drop you off?
Skrevet 13. august 2019
They give you the option of dropping you off in the center of town so you can shop/browse around or they’ll take you all the way back to the dock where they picked you up. We had them drop us off in town and it’s about a 15-20 minute walk back to the ship from there. We had plenty of time to shop a little and then walk back. Hope this helps.

Hi, we are booking this tour for a day in July. The only seats left are 7:30 AM train and then the bus back for a full 8 hour day. We are worried about the fog that early in the morning. Have read that going that early in the morning is to foggy for optimal viewing. Have read the beautiful scenery would not be as nice and easy to see. The later tour is already booked. Should we try and find a different company we can go with a little later in the morning? Thanks for your advice.
Skrevet 20. juni 2019
That is why we went in the afternoon but our trip was May and you are going in July so you might be okay. The weather for our whole cruise in Alaska was sunny every day and the cruise people said we were so lucky! You are obviously going further than we went so you are sure to have some good weather during the day if not the whole day! Just check on the weather now...I was looking before I booked. I think you will be fine in July.
However, there are quite a few tour companies but I liked the idea of returning in then bus. Best of luck!

We book ours for this coming august 2019. Is it guarentee to bring us back to the port on time. We book 7.30 am. Our ship schedule for 7 am to 5pm. The tour its 8 hours. Is it enough time for us to make it back? We travel.with 2 toddlers! Need time to run n carry them 🙈🙈
Skrevet 10. juni 2019
Their season is such a short time and they make their money during this time. They can't afford bad reviews, such as being late. We had same schedule and were back right on time. No rushing, can't say enough good things about this excursion company

Have booked a shore excruison:Bennett Train Journey on the White Pass Rail. The ship arrives at 8.00, but the pickup time is for 7.30. Will I need to change or cancel just abit worried that I'm going to miss a fantastic tour.
Skrevet 21. juni 2018
Ours docked at 7am and we had plenty of time to make it to our 7:30 tour!
Skrevet 22. juni 2018

Hi just read your review and we were thinking of booking this through your cruise ship but liked your review on chilkoot how do we find them once we exit ship
Skrevet 23. februar 2018
Chilkoot is by reservation. Book ahead, the earlier the better.
Skrevet 16. mars 2018
How long was this excursion (Rail/Bus/Dogcart) there is nothing on tripadvisor or the chiltook website that states how long it is? All the others on their site state the hours, but not this one.
Skrevet 30. januar 2018
I believe approximately 4.5 to 5 hours.
Skrevet 4. februar 2018
We are traveling to alaska in may 2017 and thinking of taking the skagway train ride. However, im terrified of heights. What do you think?
