This trail is stunningly gorgeous. The hill into Kincaid park are steep for a rental bike so I had to walk some parts. I got to see a moose and baby right off trail.

Great multi-use trail along the Cook Inlet. 22 miles round trip from downtown. A rainy morning turned into a beautiful afternoon. We even saw a pair of moose along the way.

Trilha sinalizado e acessível ao longo da costa de Anchorage. Lugar bonito para caminhar ou pedalar, com possibilidade de visitar parques e encontrar animais pelo caminho.

Nice paved trail from downtown Anchorage to a park and chalet at th end of the trail. This is an 11 mile trail so the round trip is about 22 miles and it is very hilly at the end but rolling during remaining. There are no facilities on the trail but there is at the end. We did see moose on the trail and there are some beautiful views along the way.

My wife and I had great bike ride on the trail. There was a good variety of scenery and opportunities to stop. We saw moose along a stream, and even briefly a black bear and cub ahead of us on the trail! We were surprised to see the bear and I think were pretty lucky to see them.
We rented bikes from Pablo's, which was very convenient, and did the whole trail to Kincaid Park. The trail does get pretty steep at the end before we turned around, so you will be working to get up the hill if riding a bike.

Great trail in town with lots of variety - rain forests, ponds, coastline. We saw one moose walking down the trail. At approx mile 5 you may hear a jet lifting off the run way. Aeronautics aficionados enjoy standing on the hill nearby and watching the jets take off (best between 9-10am). We rented from the Trek stand near the trail. Rented for 3 hours for $30 and used all the time. Highly recommend if you like to ride bikes or walk.

Great trail to have in a city. A variety of scenery, mostly flat or slightly rolling until you get a steep climb near the north end.

I walked this trail with my cousins and their dog, and had a lovely time! Portions of the trail are shared with the Planet Walk, which extends to the Inlet from downtown Anchorage. When we went, on a Sunday afternoon, the trail was quite busy, with walkers, runners, dogs, kids, bikers, and skateboarders all sharing it, but there was plenty of room for everyone! Towards the beginning of the trail there was a nice view of a lake with a playground and some exercise equipment, and we walked to reach a nice look out with a view of the inlet and harbor. The portion of the trail we walked was paved and easy to walk- probably all handicapped friendly! I would absolutely go again.

This is a must do in Anchorage! We rented ebikes a few blocks away at Pablo's Bike Rentals and then hit the 22 mile round trip trail. We took our time stopping to see many of the beautiful sites. At around mile 7 we saw a moose up close walking along the trail and also a mama bear with 2 cubs sleeping just a few yards from the trail near mile 9. We went from 5-8 pm and the foot traffic was quite heavy at the start of the trail but lessened up as we went along. We sat and watched several planes take off literally right over our heads. We felt safe and had a blast!

Nice walk along the coast of anchorage. Mostly flat and parts are quite scenic. Paved and clean. The northern or eastern park locals say is best.

I biked on the trail today and saw what looked like muddy bear tracks. Are they fake tracks or is it possible a bear was there? Thanks!

Very possible, cannot believe that they would be fake...

Was it smokey while you were there? One of our party has asthma and we're trying to avoid the smoke as much as we can.

There was no smoke in the air at all. Maybe it was the time of the year, or the fact that there were no bush fires. I will say though, Anchorage is not the pristine, beautiful town that I expected. It rates up there with any other dirty big city I have been to. For fresh air I definitely recommend the cruise that we did from Vancouver to Whittier.

Gracias

The trail starts at the intersection of 2 street and H avenue, a short walk from the train station, which is near the port, but the port is large, so it depends where your boat docks. I suggest you search google for public transportation in Anchorage.

We will be in Anchorage the end of June and only have time to walk part of the trail. What part of the trail would we have the best chance of seeing moose, beluga whales?
Thanks,

I saw a moose in the early evening on the more remote portion of the trail past the airport. I saw no whales but I was on bicycle and did not spend extended time sitting along the shore line.

Thanks for your review...I have a question. Where do you access the trail? We are staying at the Marriott downtown the first night we get there (about 9:30 PM) and at the Cook Hotel the second night. Is it a good introductory walk ...is it close to either of these hotels?
Thanks

There are multiple access points - the trail runs along the downtown waterfront all the way to Ted Steven airport! Looks like the best access point for you in downtown will be West 5th Avenue from your hotel. Just walk towards the water and you will see the trail, which is very easy for novice hiker. Enjoy!

When you exit the Capt Cook Hotel onto W. 5th Ave, turn right (Westerly) and walk 2 1/2 blocks to Elderberry Park and you'll see the signs to get to the "Coastal Trail". BTW, before you get to the park, there are usually (seasonally open) bike rental stands that you can rent from.

I am coming to Anchorage this week (early May) and hoping to run this trail from kincaid back to anchorage. Do you think it'll be clear at this time of year for a run?

The trail is clear now for running. My wife and I have been running it this week. Have a great time in Anchorage. Try the Flat Top Mountain Hike while you are here.

Hi There. I will be traveling with my mom, she is in her early 70s. we will have about 2 hours to spend in Anchorage before we have to go to the airport, is this a good spot to spend the time? I assume we will only walk about 2 miles. what the best starting point, and more importantly, is there a way to get a taxi along the trail if we're out of time?
if you can suggest a better spot to spend in Anchorage - I will greatly appreciate it!
thank you!

If you are short on time, I would suggest to take a taxi (or Uber?) to Earthquake park and pick up the trail there to the shoreline and back. Go to GoogleMap and take a look and you can see the trail. It's a great walk.
