The MIT Museum has a large interesting collection of scientific artifacts related to MIT researchers & students f rom the past ~100 years. The Museum is organized into two stories of galleries of related artifacts; I thought the galleries on space exploration, artificial intelligence and high energy physics were particularly good. It was also interesting to see the Museum's extensive collection of students' models created over the year. An interesting way to see both advanced scientific research and the MIT students who worked on them.

This is quite a geeky museum, but if that’s your thing then you’ll love it. A fairly quick visit, but that leaves time to walk around campus.

Despite having had some high hopes for MIT Museum, I now cannot in good faith recommend it. Within the main "Gene Cultures" exhibit, I came across a functionally pornographic mini-exhibit entitled "In Posse: Female Semen". This twisted, disturbing display with New Age undercurrents consists of two TV screens playing, on repeat, a 45-minute NSFW video in which the “artist”, if you can even call her that, straps on an incredibly realistic-looking--from the perspective of male anatomy, hair and all—dildo before announcing to the viewer that she will now be “ejaculating onto canvas”. And there are all-too-clear camera-video shots of her male appendage in action, with depraved visuals (like fluids graphically squirting onto the formerly blank canvas) that are hard to “un-see” once you’ve seen them. Sadly, this multimedia exhibit has been on display since 2017. The rest of the video has to do with the pseudo-artist’s bizarre quest to manufacture and procure what she dubs “female semen”, utilizing the sperm cells of individuals who identify as trans or non-binary. Even if you stumbled upon the video, which is clearly visible from the main exhibit’s “natural walkway” despite being somewhat off to the side, during a *relatively* family-friendlier portion (though I do not recall the two TVs being in sync, meaning that one could be showing an early part while the other is, say, 30 minutes into the video), there are also 3 or 4 case-displays of items waiting to greet your energetic child—including a notebook sketch of a woman with several breasts illustrated on her figure, with fluid (I’m innocently-enough not a female anatomy expert) dripping out of each of them. Attached to this review of MIT Museum are photos, for the discerning parent, of the “safer” displays (I did not photograph the aforementioned notebook sketch). One of which seems to include a decapitated pig’s head on a platter.
As I learned, MIT Museum isn’t so much a science or STEM museum as a science-influenced museum—in which futuristic techno-art of sometimes really poor taste (or just stuff from a bad dream) plays just as prominent a role. Many, perhaps up to half, of the displays in the different exhibits were art-related and not core science. While certainly less egregious than the dark mini-exhibit on "female semen", I think it's also fair to mention, certainly for more traditionally-minded parents, that there's an art display on a menswear suit for "non-female and transgender pregnancy". This is also located within the “Gene Cultures” exhibit, near the exit.
Ultimately, I’m disappointed in MIT Museum, the latter portion of my time there irrevocably sullied by the “female semen” long past its retirement date. The “Gene Cultures” exhibit was otherwise pretty good by my recollection. I was transfixed by the “Driven by Sun” video on the first floor, and I also really enjoyed the “Essential MIT” exhibit. The instrument displays were all right, but AI: Mind the Gap was too surface-level in my estimation, not going nearly into the depth that I think it should have regarding how AI actually works and the STEM principles behind it. We’re actually really blessed here in Philadelphia to have the Franklin Institute, which by my reckoning does a much better job of weaving core science into displays and interactive activities that might ostensibly be “just” for children or teenagers—such that I get plenty of learning done even as an adult visitor! But in terms of distilling the "essence" of MIT, if indeed it is distillable (or best represented by this institution that I now can't help but imagine is effectively being run by a student-hipster axis of unmoored techno-liberals, if not their "tolerant" supervisors), this museum gave me well beyond what I had bargained for. In its current iteration, I would skip MIT Museum and head to the Museum of Science, Boston. It doesn't give me any joy to say that, though, and I certainly hope for a distinct change or two in the future.

I went to MIT and started from visiting centre.they gave me a map and plan to start from museum.
Very interesting very different. I enjoy , I learn and had a brain storm.some visitors came with kids .
The best part was Artificial intelligence.Genetic was also interesting. You will have the chance to see workshops and many other things. It takes 2 or 3 hours. I suggest to walk around the campuses and visit art collage .
Ticket is 18 $

Spanned over three floors, are numerous ground-breaking exhibits from their history. Features are well organized and you can start anywhere. I particularly enjoyed the AI section - where you were challenged to spot the real versus fake video, and also where you could compose a poem with the computer.
This interactive exhibition is more geared for adults, not kids. Explanations are done in a simplistic manner that won’t overwhelm you (or at least, not too much).
Do visit the souvenir section too - it’s got some cool gifts.
You should spend about 2 hours, assuming 1/5 of the stuff doesn’t fascinate or excite you.

We went with the grandkids for PI day, which was on March 17 this year. There were numerous exhibits and hands-on activities that were arranged by some wonderful teenagers. They have a new Ai component to some of the exhibits which makes it even better.

The space is beautiful with areas to sit and contemplate. There are 2 floors of exhibits, but several areas focus on the contributions of MIT faculty - and seemed more like an advertisement for MIT. I went with hubby and teen. We all had different interests and limited time, so we split up for the time in the museum . In total, we spent approximately 2-2.5 hours there.
Some of the exhibits were purposely provacative - blending science and art. Exhibits raised questions about whether pigs could gestate human fetuses - or whether it woudl be possible to reproductive without men.
I was glad to see the exhibits, but may not be worth the admission price - since much was an advertisement for MIT.

There are a few galleries of this museum which are informative or thought provoking, but this is a niche museum that may not appeal to even the average person interested in science. Several of the galleries are about MIT itself, including MIT's history and student body, and would be of less interest to non-MIT students and alumni. Other galleries are art inspired by biotechnology, which may also not appeal to everyone.
Perhaps I am unenlightened, but although I do follow biotechnology developments, I don't have a strong interest in seeing biotechnology interpreted through art. Although I am interested in science, I am neutral on science specifically done at MIT.
The bottom line is that if don't mind spending $18 for a ticket and you don't have kids with you, yeah, go, but maybe find other activities in Boston if you have less time and/or you have kids.

If you are into science and innovation, this place is for you. Went there before the Innovation Trail for an hour or so. I was worried if it's for little kids, but not, it's for grown-ups. Great exhibits on astrophysics, and genetics. We enjoyed the robotics and AI exhibit. Deep fake is brilliant and MIT hacks were fun. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

My kids aren’t particularly into science but they really enjoyed the visit to this museum. There are several interactive exhibits (many AI based) and they held their attention for quite a long time. The innovative applications to science section (as it applies in some still developing countries) was interesting. And there was a good mix of media across different topics. We enjoyed the gift shop too. Probably worth a good couple of hours. Free phone charging downstairs was a plus!

I will have a group of super smart high school math whizzes - we can tour either this museum or the Museum of Sciences. Which would be more interesting to older high school kids interested in math?

I teach 9th grade physical science/earth science and geometry. This museum is geared for younger students. The hands on activities were fun but again 6th graders would be a more appropriate audience.
