My husband and I found this very interesting. It was well maintained with paved roads and many unique monuments.

I visited Hollywood Cemetery in October 2023. I drove my car to the Presidential Circle to visit the graves of President Monroe and President Tyler. Then I drove to the Confederate section. The main grave I visited was the grave of General George Pickett. He was known for Pickett’s Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg and also the Battle of Five Forks - the climactic moment of the Battle of Petersburg. I also saw a grave with a statue of a dog and a pyramid honoring women of the confederacy. I hope to return to Hollywood Cemetery next year after I do some more research about who is buried there.

You drive thru the cemetery and follow the blue line to see the different areas of the cemetery. There are 2 US presidents and Confederate President buried in the cemetery. There is a memorial for the confederate soldiers . Also a nice view of the James River.

My friends, and I recently spent an hour or so here, driving through the cemetery and looking at all of the mausoleum’s and grounds. It is just beautiful and that we picked up from the main office was very helpful.

A beautiful cemetery to take a drive through. Saw many people walking and actually having a picnic along the river and saw some deer. Two presidents are buried here, along with thousands of soldiers.

The cemetary was beautiful and well maintained. We went on a Sunday so the office was not open. We could get a map but it was very difficult to read and follow. We finally found President's Circle and that was awesome. The view of the city and river was really nice. Interesting place to visit when in the area.

This is a very nice, large, and beautiful cemetery. It is named after the abundance of holly trees there. We did have a tour with a guide who met us there and it was excellent. He drove us around and stopped at various locations of importance. First, there are both Union and Confederate soldiers who are buried here. Presidents John Tyler and James Monroe are buried here as well as Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy. The cemetery overlooks the James River and Bell Isle, beautiful views. We were told that it is an excellent place to go birding. We would have needed the whole day to walk around and appreciate the whole cemetery.

High on a hill with great views of the city. Mammoth cemetery worth driving around with multiple stops. Tours offer names of the rich and famous buried there (we did not take a tour). Stumbled upon Jefferson Davis' grave and statue, though. A Richmond highlight.

The cemetery that houses the graves of two U.S. Presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler; the Confederate President, Jefferson Davis; and 28 Civil War Generals, including Jeb Stuart and George Pickett, is a beautiful cemetery that is the largest I’ve visited. It is a must see for Civil War history buffs.

This cemetery is absolutely beautiful!! You can drive through it (be sure to know how to get out) or get out and walk. The grounds are beautiful and well kept, the tombs, gravestones, etc. are beautiful. There is a ton of history, the landscaping is wonderful, and there is a beautiful view of the city and river depending on where you are. You can cycle through, jog through, etc. It is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I've ever visited. Loved it!!!!

Is it possible to walk to the Cemetery from downtown Richmond (I am a walker!)

Richmond is a city where you can be very safe one minute but walking one block over puts you in a dangerous area. Being that you are from the UK, I would suggest that you be cautious and careful. Walking from the Capitol to the museum of the confederacy to the John Marshall House is probably safe during the day. But be careful! Richmond has a rough side.

FREE. Drive in and find a parking space (there are several options). I suggest you drive the cemetery completely, at first. This will help you understand what there is to see. Then, pick a suitable parking spot and start walking.
I suggest you do a little Google research first so you take full advantage of the incredible information this location has to offer.
You could spend hours here and have a very enriching time.

I would not try to park outside, unless it was street parking at the entrance. The grounds at Hollywood are larger than you might expect. You can drive through it and stops as you wish at different points. Or, you can park and walk the grounds if you prefer. I'm sure that you will love it. Beautiful place.
