Beautiful spot but invaded at the weekend. The visitors are ruining it as they are leaving rubbish which is a big shame. It’s impressive but over run with people. Suggest going in the week outside of the summer months. Glad we stopped to see it

The Cave of the Cat, located near the town of Benaojan, in the province of Malaga, is one of the most impressive natural treasures in the region. This cave is a magical place where nature is displayed in all its glory, combining the majesty of the rock formations with the charm of an underground river emerging to the surface.
One of the main attractions of the Cat Cave is its spectacular surroundings. The entrance to the cave, which resembles the shape of a cat face, is surrounded by a landscape of mountains and Mediterranean vegetation. Right at the mouth of the cave, the crystal clear waters of the Guadiaro River form a natural, bright turquoise pool where visitors can take a refreshing swim, especially on hot summer days. The water is cold but incredibly clean and pure, making the bath an unforgettable experience.
Although access to the inside of the cave is restricted by its complexity and its status as a protected area, the outside environment offers many possibilities to enjoy nature. The area is ideal for hiking, with several paths running through the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, where you can enjoy breathtaking views and the rich biodiversity of the area.
The place is perfect to spend a day in contact with nature, whether enjoying a picnic by the waters or exploring the nearby trails. Its relative tranquility, especially in the off-season, makes it an ideal haven for those looking to escape the bustle and immerse themselves in the peace of the natural environment.
In short, the Cave of the Cat is a must for lovers of nature and adventure. With its combination of spectacular scenery, crystal clear waters and hiking trails, it is a perfect destination to enjoy the beauty of the Malaga mountains. A magical corner that deserves to be visited!

Lovely spot to stop by and the water was intensely cold which is exactly what was needed on such a hot day. The cave was easy to access with a car park that needed one euro to access. Nice opportunity to break a road trip and short distance from Ronda.

Place that could be beautiful if people were clean. The waterfall is beautiful but the place is full of garbage. When we cross the bridge this one smells like urine. We pay for parking but no one is there to protect the environment.People let their dogs urinate everywhere A little nugget from Spain leave abandoned.

Beautiful spot, about 20-30mins from Ronda. Because the water comes from the caves, it is FREEZING and almost impossible to swim in, let alone wade. However, it is very refreshing after being in the hot sun of the city! You need 1Eu to park. Then, there is a road beside the parking lot that leads you down to the caves. It is beautiful.
We went there because we happened to be driving by, but wouldn't go out of the way to get there.

No-sense parking barrier. A parking barrier that requires a one euro coin (but no card/Apple Pay accepted!) This barrier is positioned only metres from the main road causing a back up of traffic with an accident just waiting to happen. I am not sure who is so ludicrously desperate for a bit of cash in hand but should be avoided on this basis.

A few meters from the Guadiaro River we find this cave, a place of unique beauty that has a lake with crystal-clear waters suitable for bathing in the hottest months.
There is also a spectacular water source that flows from the bowels of the cave. This river forms several waterfalls and an environment with typical riverside vegetation that creates a unique atmosphere of sounds, colors and smells.
It has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and also a Natural Monument by the Junta de Andalucía. This designation is established for spaces of singular beauty or rarity.

Beautiful spot. Well worth a visit. Water is cold even on the hottest days, but amazingly refreshing. It’s a short walk from the car park so do t take more stuff than you need. It’s also definitely worth taking shoes that can be worn into the water as the shale was hard for the kids to get across. Lovely setting - made all the more pleasant by a total lack of commercialism. ((No stalls or shops, bars or restaurants- just some caves and stunning bathing pools!)

Skrevet 25. juli 2017
