We parked at the Minute men visitor centre on a stunning day and explored this piece of world history. We walked 10 miles, visiting Lexington and several of the historic buildings enroute. The history is awe inspiring and the vista, stunning.

Battle Road Trail is the route the British army marched from Lexington to Concord on April 19, 1775. From west to east the is about five miles. I stated at the west end parking lot at 751 Lexing Road, Concord. I encountered six very detailed info stands, the historic Hsy Meadow, Bloody Angle, a memorial plaque about the British killed & buried after the march, the Hartwell Tacern, the Samuel House-just a chimney with with modern day frame work-ending at the Captin William Smith House.
This was only half way point after 2 &1/2 hours of walking. At the Hartwell Tavern turn onto Bedford Lane, which wikk take a visitor to a restroom facility.
At times the trail will parallel Lexington Road. Further on Lexington Road is the Paul Revere Cature Site-with parking- followed by the Minute Man Visitor Center, the Jacob Wittmore House ending at the Battle Road Trail info stand & I-995.
The trail is gravel most of the way. I walked across two wooden bridges in a wetland area. Bikes are permitted and probably the best way to travel on the trail. If the day is sunny & hot, carry at least two bottles of water or any other kind of liquid.
A good pair of comfortable shoes are recommended. A walk of any length & time is recommended.

My wife and I walked about two miles of the Battle Road Trail. It's an easy-to-walk trail, mostly crushed gravel. We were surprised that several houses/foundations/etc on the trail weren't marked. The trail map appeared to have more points of interest than those actually marked on the trail. There were many bicyclists on the trail - none of which said 'passing on your left' as is the norm on bike trails...would be beneficial for such guidance to be placed on the trail to minimize likelihood of bicyclist and walker colliding with one another.

Great trail even if you do not like history. Very well worth the walk. Signs explaining things are very well done and park employees are helpful. Love this trail.

If you have time, you can take the whole Lexington & Concord battle in along this trail. How the day unfolded & where it happened.

Drive, park and walk this beautiful road toward Concord and relive the moments leading up to the Revolutionary War. Many of the fields and homes are today what they were in 1775. With the changing of the trees, even more beautiful than one can imagine. History breathes and lives here for everyone of every age to experience. Take your time and enjoy!

As a huge US history buff, Battle Road Trail is a must-visit. Even if you're not a huge history fan, this is a great walking trail in general.
My only gripe with it is that I wish they'd had more signs with information or historical markers along the path, as you constantly walk alongside empty fields and forests without really knowing what you're looking at or whether you're still even on the Battle Road Trail.
Also, be aware that the historical buildings are not open year round. For instance, we went in early May, and even then many of the buildings were closed during that time.
This also meant that many of the restrooms were closed, so make sure to use the restroom beforehand.

We loved visiting Concord! Walking along the Battle Road Trail made history come alive for us. I wish I had done it when I was in school. It’s a beautiful area to walk or run, and read the markers along the way.

I went for a run along battle road, and it's a pretty nice trail to run along. Although I didn't stop for all the plaques with historical information, I did notice various spots indicating that British soldiers had been buried nearby. Lots of history along the Battle Road Trail... I will return later to take things in at a more leisurely pace.

Our Unit visited this site on a staff ride. It was very good to get an eyes on visualization of the battlefield as it had taken place over 240 years ago. Definitely worth stopping at.

If walk the Battle Road Trail is there any type of transportation (bus, train, taxi, ?) that would take us back to the Lexington Visitor Center?
Skrevet 25. september 2017
No idea. As the prior response said it would be best to check with the National Park Service. Tip: apply insect repellent.

I have the same question. Is there a place to book a bike tour or rent bikes? I saw one place listed here on trip advisor, but it doesn't have any recent reviews. Also tried contacting them and had no response. I will be visiting next week, and if no answer I will report back my findings. Thanks.

Hi - I do not know of any bike tours, the Urban Adventures one is probably good.
However, you can rent bikes in Bedford Mass, at a bike shop that is located on the Bike Trail - that;s a fun ride, goes from Bedford, in to Lexington - stop and walk around town, etc - then continue out to Arlington.
Google up Bedford Mass bike rentals and bike path.
It's a pretty ride and lots of great shops and historical things to do as well as restaurants.
There is a deli in the middle of town that is great for sandwiches - most other places are sit-down restaurants.
Hope this helps!
