We enjoyed our tour of Orchard House. We did not have advance tickets for the Sunday afternoon we were there but were able to get on the next available tour. The tour starts with a film then moves on to the house. Our tour guide was very knowledgable. Cute gift shop. We were there for about an hour.

Of course this house is a must see for Little Women fans. It was a residence of the Alcott family and much of the furniture dates from their occupation. The guides are knowledgeable and will tell you a lot about the Alcott family. There is also a gift shop.

Beautifully kept grounds and buildings. Very informative. Definitely worth stopping by. So much to do in the area - make a day of it.

Something’s wrong with the organization and running of Orchard House. Our tour guide was welcoming and informative but she wanted to move us quickly from room to room. It was difficult to get a good look at items. The ‘no photos’ policy is silly as no flash is needed so what’s the harm? I really wanted to get a photo of the everyday dishes on the table and the embroidered bag on Louisa’s bed and was hoping I would see them on an online catalog of items – no luck, there is no curated catalog of household items. Most shocking is portions of the house’s condition. The ceiling of the nursery has big sections of falling paint. When I mentioned that portions of the house seemed a bit shabby the tour guide replied, “You have no idea!” Parking in front of the house feels risky (the house is on a curved road), good luck backing out! The back outbuilding (The School of Philosophy), where an introductory filmed is viewed, appears underutilized. Additionally, Wayside House is just steps away (same side of the road and a large wooded area between the houses), why is there no connection to that historic home? I just read that the Alcott’s even lived in Wayside House right before Hawthorne! I’m giving Orchard House two stars because even though the house reflects how it looked while the Alcott’s lived there, in addition to the amazing claim that 80% of the items in the house belonged to the family, there could be much more done to make the Alcott’s, the transcendentalists, and the surrounding area come to life.

This is a great experience. Be sure to begin with the film they show which will enhance your experience of the house. One of the best things is that you will be able to walk around the rooms of the home instead of viewing everything behind a partition. Our tour guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and did not rush us at all.

This was a dream come true. To be in the house where my all time favourite book was set brought tears to my eyes. The guide pointed out all the things you wouldn't otherwise know were in the house and told the real life story of Louisa May Alcott abd her family members.

i love historic houses and touring them, but this was the most frustrating tour I've ever taken. The tour, which took less than 30 minutes, provided by an older woman, who had no warmth, spoke fast, and requested no questions until the end. We had little time to absorb the rooms, what was communicated and furnishings and felt rushed. To try to remember all questions until the end was unbelievable. It seemed as though they want to move people through. The policy of not allowing photographs was also unacceptable. The reason provided was for security and they don't want pictures posted on social media. The only legitimate reason would be to not allow flash.

The house itself is amazing with 80% of the furniture and belongings original. I would have given a 5 star review if it wasn't how the tour was handled. What a shame.

We enjoyed our visit. The docents were very knowledgeable & we were guided through each room of the house in a timely, but not rushed manner. There’s no photography inside. It was especially touching to see the small desk on which Little Women was written and May’s artwork displayed throughout the house. There’s timed-entry admission and tickets range from $8 to $15. Check the website for eligible discounts.

Thought it would be good from reading other's reviews but this was a fascinating and informative visit that exceeded our already high expectations. So well set out and presented, the short film was excellent for setting the scene and our guide around the house ( sorry, didn't catch her name) was so interesting & well informed that we left on a total high. Lots of original period pieces in every room. Well done to you all.

Even if you didn't personally grow up imagining yourself a member of the March family, chances are you know at least a few people who did. The appeal of Little Women is how relatable it is, and a visit to the house and home that Louisa May Alcott lived in and from which she drew her inspiration makes you feel like you are coming home. The home is much more than a literary site, as every member of the Alcott family lives on in the anecdotes shared by the very capable guides. Tours are at set times and while group sizes are limited due to the confines of the house, great measures are taken to accommodate all in a timely manner. If you can't park out front, there is a large lot just across the street. We highly recommend and will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
