My friend and I visited the Schuyler-Hamilton House today shortly before closing. Despite the late hour, Pat was nice enough to not only show us the house, but tell us about its owners, Dr. Jabez Campfield and Dr. John Cocrane, as well as its place in the history of Revolutionary America. She discussed Washington’s battles and strategy, explaining how Morristown played a strategic role both in its location and natural resources. In addition to the wealth of information she offered, Pat was also funny and enlivened her discussion through her humor. My friend and I stopped by because we saw this listed on a map at the Morristown National Historical Park, and it made for a fun detour. A great place to visit on an afternoon!

This offers easy access to experiencing colonial life. The park rangers are phenomenally knowledgeable and are eager to answer questions.

Very wonderful women (of the D.A.R.) have preserved this must stop location of any serious Hamilton tour. Alexander Hamilton courted his wife Elizabeth ("Betsy") Schuyler here where her Uncle, Surgeon was quartered during the Revolutionary War. Everything that leads to the phenomenal ending of Hamilton (The Musical) started here. Easy walking distance from Morristown Station (of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" video shoot).
If you can afford Hamilton tickets, please consider a generous donation so future generations can "be in the room where it happened."

Located just off of Morris Street and only one half mile from Ford Mansion, the Schulyer-Hamilton house should be part of your historic Morristown tour. Built in 1760 by Dr. Jabez Campfield, it was moved to it's present location in the 1980's having been originally situated on Morris Street right around the corner from what is now a gas station. It is only open on Sunday for tours from 2-4 pm conducted by the Daughters of the American Revolution who provide knowledgeable and enthusiastic docents. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. The house is special for a number of reasons. first, it is where Alexander Hamilton met his future bride Elizabeth "Betsy" Schuyler. She was the niece of Dr. John Cochran, who was George Washington's personal physician. Dr. Cochran's wife was the sister of General Philip Schuyler and it was she who invited Betsy, her niece to spend the summer of 1780 at the home. Hamilton met Betsy when he was delivering a message to Dr. Cochran. Hamilton married Schulyer in December 1780 in Albany, NY about a year after they met. Secondly, the house has some original pieces. Old paintings. rugs and a maple cabinet purchased at the Ford Estate auction in 1874 can be seen. This Georgian style home has uneven floor boards and a lock of Betsy's hair and her cap. Private tours can be obtained by calling 973-539-7502. Unfortunately, I did not visit on Sunday and was unable to enter the building.

Not the best place to visit in morristown....but Hamilton followers should take a look. It was 20 minutes and I found it somewhat I formative when there. It's a difficult find, I accidentally drove past the block....but found it coming back. I would not do it again, unless a Hamilton loving relative really wanted to go

I was there this past Sunday. It is an old house that Betsy Schuyler only stayed in for a time when her Uncle Tom Cochran owned. It is an older house with uneven floors the upstairs shows the bedroom Betsy slept in. The Daughters of American Revolution run this museum. One woman gives you a speech of the history of 1776 and the activity that went on with Hamilton and Betsy Schuyler in Morristown back in that era. The house was originally on Morris Street in walking distance to the Ford Mansion at that time and for what ever reason was moved to Olyphant Place. I was not overly thrilled with the place since it was not at all the place Schuyler truly spent most of her life. It was a meek average home for that time.

The Schuyler-Hamilton House in Morristown is where Eliza/Betsy Schuyler was staying when she met Alexander Hamilton during the Revolutionary War. The property is maintained by the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR has meetings in this house, and they give tours as well. We had a very interesting tour which explained the history of the house as well as the couple. The house contains a lock of Eliza Hamilton's hair as well as her cap. It's a must see site if you're into the new Hamilton craze!

Where is there parking on Sunday? I plan to visit this weekend. Also, is there a tour or will I just be able to see the house. Thank you!
Skrevet 8. juli 2016
There is street parking and a strip mall down the street. Tours are on Sunday, 2-4 pm. At any other time, you will not be able to get inside.
