Have been visiting Cannon hall for years!
Recently we’ve been visiting every couple of months with family and it is always a great day out.
Whether you are 8 months old or 80 there is something for everyone!
The museum is interesting and lots to see- especially the downstairs rooms. Shame the bedroom furniture removed now but there is some lovely artwork.
The grounds are mainly flat so accessible and the gardens and lake offer scenic views.
Plenty of places for a decent coffee and food.
We actually take a picnic and sit on the benches not far from the ample car parking spaces.
Finally, there is a good farm shop so you can take away some tasty treats. Try the pies- delicious!!
We all look forward to our next visit.

Excellent - the house is interesting, rather than amazing, but the gardens are an absolute credit to Barnsley - fantastic little courtyard cafe with beautiful home made fare.

An interesting visit to this free museum with lots of information and beautiful portraits of the Spencer/Spencer-Stanhope family. I was particularly taken with the "talking portrait" of Sir Walter Spencer-Stanhope, who did much for the local community. Well laid out formal rooms, together with the Victorian kitchen and servants' quarters.

There was an exhibition of beautiful ceramic pieces, and I believe there were more exhibitions on the upper floor, which we did not visit. And the extensive park and gardens are very relaxing.

Well worth a visit.

Been going for years and love this place. Took my 3 year old this week and he loved exploring the grounds. Massive improvements with the path near the lake (it does get boggy down there especially in winter months), great children's play area and Monster Trail and the Swan boats are a nice addition. The grounds are beautiful and lots to see. It's only £1 for 2 hours parking or £3 all day which is brilliant value (no card payment at the lower car park but there is at the farm which are the same rates}. The museum (Manor House) is free entry and good if not anything special. There is a nice walk along side the cricket club which takes you to the lovely village of Cawthorne which has a great pub called The Spencer's Arms. If you take your own picnic you can have a really cheap day out. If you want to indulge you can go to the farm (which is connected), farm shop, cafés and resteraunt which are a bit pricey.

Plenty of parking, especially for blue badge holders. A lovely parkland, a cute little manor house and a beautiful walled garden.
A great place for all ages and accessible access and footpaths.

Cannon Hall park is a great place to visit with kids or dogs, there's a long tarmacced path along the river, suitable for wheelchairs etc, plenty of space to run around and some Swan boats. If you count all the drinks outlets there are 7 places to get drinks/ snacks from, I will certainly visit again.

My reviews have previously reflected service, staff and overall experience.
Our circumstances have changed as Jackie now has limited mobility. My reviews now reflect disabled access and overall experience.
Jackie and I have tried to add a review for he grounds around Cannon Hall. I could not find what I was looking for so my review is here.
This reflects a visit on cold and windy January day in a disabled persons buggy.
GO FOR IT.
The paths are sound, with a good surface. Parking is free for blue badge holders.
Cannon Hall may become our preferred place to visit as we live within 15 minuets drive.
Dawson the new dog is very excitable. The grounds have plenty of visitors with dogs. If yours is not sociable stay away with your hound!!!

We walked in the park and spent time in the gardens, including the restored kitchen garden. Very well kept and maintained with lots of signboards explaining the history. Plenty of space for lots of people to enjoy a day out with good seating and picnic tables.

Cannon Hall has a museum and expansive Gardens to walk around. We visited on a bright sunny day and had a lovely time. The garden walk takes you through a fairy pond and to a lake where you can rent a giant Swan to peddle round. Free to get in but Swan experience £10 minimum.
