Blown away by the exhibits!
I wasn't sure what to expect here, but my son wanted to go to Explora which is right next door. Explora changed their hours from opening at 9 am to 10 am. So we had an hour to kill and I was curious about this place anyway.
The admission was super cheap! Admission for my grown son and I, including the 3D Imax T. Rex movie was only $20!
We walked in and started looking around. I expected a few dinosaur skeletons with a plaque and a brief description of what it was.
Boy, was I wrong! There was so much to take in, and so professionally done and in-depth, I can't even describe how much there is to see here!
Very nice gift shop as well, but the cafe' was closed due to pandemic and has not since re-opened.
I highly recommend this museum for anyone of any age!

A nice museum with a variety of fare, including live animals in one room. Some great dinosaur stuff, which was my motivation for visiting. Fossils, murals, reconstructions representing the varied life that existed in NM. There was a nice room of art pertaining to mammals and mineral cases as well. I would give about 90 minutes for a visit.

Unbelievable how disrespectful their policy for military members is, you have to be "Active Duty only, they do not honor family members, Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corp Reserve members, they do not honor Army or Air Force National Guard, they do not honor and miltaey retired. It's not about the money, it's about their disrespect to the men and Women of our Armed Forces. And to top it off the lady who sold us our tickets was super rude. I will never return.

We loved the NM museum of natural history and science. The animatronic dinosaur was so lifelike. Also other dinosaurs skeletons were amazing. Geology of NM was great. Don’t miss the gift shop.

Great Museum. We were on a staycation up from Santa Fe for a few days. With all the great museums in Santa Fe, we didn't know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The museum had more than we could absorb in a couple of hours.
On entering the museum is a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Occasionally it would become animated and move its head and growl (neato). There was a little one looking up saying, "Louder, louder." Obviously a hit with the kids. We are used to the Museum of Science and Nature in Denver. A tough comparison. But, they did well here. The museum is multi-faceted with lots of exhibits, each well done. A lot on dinosaurs.
We spent three hours there and didn't do it all. The only drawback is that their little café seems permanently closed. Would have been nice to sit and share our experience - or just take a breather from all the mind-work.
Wold love to return.

We spent most of our visit in the Earth history part of the museum, full of fossils of dinosaurs and other prehistoric life. Each section has signs that explain how those fossils fit into the development of life. The signs have a good balance between being long enough to give you a good idea of what's in the exhibit and being short enough that you don't feel flooded with more details than you can take in. The signs are in both English and Spanish.
As you walk from room to room, you retrace the history of life on Earth from earliest times to the geologically recent. In the last room, be sure to look up, to see the saber-tooth cat preparing to pounce!
The museum has other exhibits, but the history of life was what we concentrated on.
On the day that we visited, museum staff had telescopes set up outside so that we could look at the Sun. Also, a team from NASA had unrolled a large photo-map of the Moon on the floor of an upstairs room. All of us who visited that day could become "Moon walkers"!

The walk through time exhibit, that winds its way around the museum, detailing earth's geologic history and the appearance of life and biologic changes was unusually interesting. We also saw an IMAX movie about an Everest expedition that was very good, although those in our group had seen other movies about Everest previously.

When I think of a natural history museum, I think of awesome displays of rare & cool stuff. I guess I am spoiled by going to the Smithsonian. Wasn't expecting that big for $8 each, but the place is small and nearly everything was geared towards little children like kids "science centers' that are already everywhere. That was disappointing, as was the amount of unused open space without exhibits. The dinosaur bones were cool and the whole thing can be done under an hour unless you pay extra for the planetarium or theatre or have kids under 10.

My friend and I were in Albuquerque last month and had a delightful visit at the New Mexico Natural History Museum!
Michael was the guard/docent we met after we entered the museum, and he was extremely helpful and informative. He told us about Bella, the interactive dinosaur (actually the Bisti Beast, Bistahieversor Sealeyi) in the central atrium, and how to navigate the galleries if we wished to take the Walk Through Time (Timetracks). It's a truly brilliant way to organize a museum! We started on the upper floor, with the Big Bang, and progressed through the origin of life, migration of organisms from the sea to the land, rise of the dinosaurs, the asteroid that triggered the mass extinction, and the rise of the mammals, to present-day environments and challenges.
All the exhibits were very informative and user-friendly; in addition, there were plenty of interactive stations for younger visitors to learn more about the content in the exhibits.
We spent about 90 minutes touring the Walk Through Time and could easily have stayed longer if we'd visited the other galleries. (We unfortunately had an engagement in the afternoon and had to leave.) But even a short visit was enchanting, and we absolutely enjoyed ourselves!

hiw much time do you need to see museum
Skrevet 14. juli 2019
About 3 hours for the full visit. There are a couple little labs for the kids to learn about fossils so if you have a slow poke it might be a little longer. :0)

Is there a hotel shuttle for guests to and from the airport?
Skrevet 18. september 2015
Some hotels have shuttles to and from the airport, but none go to the Museum that I know of. There are bus stops near the museum.
