Was able to enjoy this museum despite not enjoying thinking about wars.
Enjoyed a few superb large oil paintings hanging on the walls in various corridors.
Enjoyed the display about Composer and band leader Sousa who composed famous marches. I pressed a button to hear a band play one if his marches.
Enjoyed a beautiful photo of first lady jackie kennedy accompanied by a member of the USMC.
Enjoyed the history timelines in the corridors which ran parallel to USMC history timelines.
Enjoyed the outdoor memorial gardens but the path i chose went significantly downhill and there were no signs, so i was afraid to go too far. You can download a garden map online but the map is of limited use since there are no signs along the trails.

I have been many times and absolutely love this museum. Very family oriented and even if you are not a Marine, you will walk out appreciating the efforts of the Marine Corps!

The building itself is a work of art and then the museum inside is beautifully done. The combination of life-size dioramas and all the explanatory videos and presentations makes it an incredibly educational and moving experience. Every exhibit draws you in and explains the logistics and mission and history in such an engaging way. I was thoroughly impressed. There is a cafeteria and a cute little "tavern" based on the tavern where the Marine Corps were founded, called The Tun, which serves very good pub food.

Not your traditional museum with artifacts on display. This museum incorporates most of its artifacts into dioramas- and those appear in chronological order telling this history of this proud service.

A truly not to be missed military museum. The detail and quality of the figures is unmatched. The is a museum of quality and not quantity. The final stage will be completed in October.

Such a great museum! As of this writing, they are in “Final Phase”, currently finishing up the date range of about 1980 - present. The museum is very well laid out, in chronological order starting from the American Revolution up through modern day. The different time periods encircle a huge central atrium that has numerous aircraft and life-size dioramas decorating it.
The very first part of the museum takes you through Marine Corp Boot Camp, which is entertaining for those who have experienced it. The museum is absolutely loaded with Marine Corps artifacts, equipment, weapons, vehicles, models and numerous life-size dioramas.
The museum is deceptively large. I was there starting at 9 AM. It took me a full hour to walk the outdoor memorial walkway. It took me six more hours to weave my way through the entire museum. Although I was unable to get into the two final exhibits because they were still under construction; you are able to look down on all of the exhibits from an encircling second floor balcony, and I was able to see most of the two final exhibits that way.
I ate lunch and an early dinner at the museum. I do not recommend the cafeteria as they are literally serving the same crap you get at a military chow hall. On the other hand, I highly recommend Tun Tavern because the food was good and so was the beer.
Overall, I absolutely loved this museum and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the military or American history.

Needed more time to see everything. At least the suggestion from the Marine at the front desk was a good one - see the WW2 section. The museum is well laid out and honors all who have put on the uniform to be a Marine. Thanks to their service and sacrifice!

Given the long and rich history of the United States Marine Corps, this isn't a very large museum, but it is exceptionally well curated, organized, and presented. Every exhibit has significance and holds interest. Even the on site movie was of top quality. I want to go again!

I went up on the upper level in the big main gallery and looked carefully at the tail gunner in the World War I biplane. I could swear he was moving just slightly, turning the gun back and forth from side to side a bit. Animatronics, or were my eyes (and brain?) playing tricks on me?

Please forgive me if these questions seem over the top but I am being sincerely curious. What is the firing range at the museum all about? I have my LTC. Should I bring it? Also, how may I see the Marine Raiders Museum? Thank you for your answers!!!
Skrevet 10. februar 2019
The firing range is laser rifles, no need to bring anything extra except the few dollars it costs. Someone else will have to address your other question, perhaps the museum itself.

Hi I want to do the tour 5 adults n 2 kids , do u charge for kids?? Ages 8 & 2..which your do u recommend 4 hr. Or 6 hr??
Skrevet 20. november 2018
Hello
As all have said it is free parking is free and close to the museum. You can make a contribution to the museum during the tour. 4 hours is a little long for the children, but plenty of places to rest and get something to eat suitable for children. Enjoy the museum.

If I go to the U.S.M.C. Museum by train, it will stop at Quantico Station. Will I be able to get back there to take the train back up to D.C.? Lastly, what bus can I take from D.C. to the Museum and back if I choose to go that method? Thanks!
Skrevet 14. mai 2017
First and foremost enjoy your visit! Driving is easier than rail and there is plenty of parking available. The Quantico station is a platform with shelter inside the base. Served by AMTRAK and VRE stations are within walking distance of each other. You should be able to call for a cab, since local transit connections are available. Again enjoy your visit.

DC and Crystal City is waaaaaay too far away. There are several excellent landmarks around Quantico, Stafford and Fredericksburg.
The traffic and parking issues in DC and Crystal City is outrageous. Plus it's a slower pace with much better food options and family activities. Several Civil War parks, museums, and the like.

I'd like to tour the museum and the Marine Corp Heritage Trail adjacent. How much time should a former Marine plan for? How long is the trail?
Skrevet 27. april 2016
The Semper Fi Memorial Park is three or four trails! I served in Vietnam so I was interested in every exhibit and memorial to those who had served. I took an hour but if you want to savor it as a former Marine I could easily allot two hours. If you have prior service you will want to read every thing and you will enjoy the experience.
Skrevet 27. april 2016
On average, how long would it take a couple of amateur history buffs to tour this museum?
Skrevet 21. april 2016
Three to four hours would be likely the minimum time if you are reading any of the written material about the exhibits. For a straight visual walk through, it could likely be done in 2. It is well worth as much time as you can allot.

how close to the memorial is Arlington cem?
