This is a must visit museum. The art and sculptures ranging from Navajo art to contemporary artists captivates you as you spend hours going from one room to another. Before or after spending some great hours at the museum you must visit the museum cafe. We had breakfast there. So filling and delicious that we skipped lunch entirely and spent the whole morning and most of the afternoon satisfying our appetite for great art.

This is a pleasant, open and airy museum. We enjoyed the indigenous art best but thought that the curation was confusing. I would have rather enjoyed a thematic approach to displays with more cultural separations. For example, there were Lakota, Apache, and Odawa Indian arts all in one case. We were hoping to see more local artists featuring the Southwest.
Styles were juxtaposed, giving the main gallery a jumbled feel. It was nice, however, to have the identification information in both English and Spanish.
The museum has a large display of meso-American ceramics and a small outdoor sculpture park. But on the whole, it flet a bit thin. I have been in smaller towns with larger collections.
If you are traveling and on a tight schedule, this site could be skipped.

What a gem of a place to visit in downtown Tucson. We took a tour with a wonderful and knowledgable docent named Lewis. He is the best docent I have come across in all my years of travel. He is ability to make the art come alive is uncanny. A trip to this museum is well worth it.

For starters the parking is easy and free.
The current featured exhibit CUMBI focuses on Andean textiles. While that might not sound like much it was very interesting. Beyond that we were impressed by how diverse the exhibits and collection were. The curation everywhere was excellent so do leave plenty of time.
Then visit their excellent cafe!

Not a museum for big name art, but showcases a lot of local artists, and some if that is rather good and/or thought provoking. Don't go expecting Euro or American masters, but rather something that has its roots in the Southwest (and fairly extensive Latin American collection). Appreciate for what it is and you will enjoy.

Wonderful art exhibits - particularly of regional interest. Learned quite a lot from one of the featured exhibits. The gift shop was above average for quality of gifts. It's not The Louvre, MMA or Chicago Art Institute, but it still offers plenty to stimulate your mind, eye and soul. Special after normal closing time hour events take place the first Thursday of every month. We didn't stay but people were lined up for admission.

We have been Museum of Art members for about 20 years now, and used to go frequently. More than 2 years have gone by since our last visit, and upon going yesterday (Thursday 4/21), we found ourselves disappointed. Loved this Museum with its eclectic collection of art. Now, we find it no longer special. It has greatly increased in size (which is good), but we found little of interest on this visit. We, always, felt that the Museum spoke "Tucson", now, we felt that we could see this art anywhere. The vast ramp hallway and gallery connecting the two buildings could have been so nicely used to highlight Western/Arizona/Tucson art.
There are, also, very few benches in the galleries. I realize that space is short, however, there could be more benches strategically placed. We both have bad backs, and need to sit down for a while, after spending time standing and looking at art. Most museums, in other places, have many more sit down areas. Here, we found ourselves returning to the Entrance Lobby for quick rests.
Parking was a huge problem, and we looked for a spot for over half an hour. Finally found a meter, and after depositing 2 quarters, saw that it was out of order. The spots in the Museum parking lot seem to be taken up by people eating at Cafe A La C'Art, or visiting the Old Town Artisan shops, and LaCo restaurant across the street. Did not see any designated spots for members, visitors or handicapped.
The Women's Restroom, which was always super clean and brightly lit, was dank and dreary. I think they have one 25kw bulb in there for lighting the entire area. There are four stalls. The first one was filthy, the second one occupied, and the third and fourth were so dimly lit, that one could not see if the seat was clean. That is really inexcusable!
We love museums, and will continue going, but, this visit was a major disappointment.

After being disappointed by other Tucson museums the Museum of Art was a great experience. The Art of the Ancient Americas was stunning and came from diverse countries and cultures of S America and worth a visit just for this exhibition alone. Then you go on to see the Asian Art exhibition and exhibits of Rodin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, and Monet - just amazing and totally unexpected. The Sculpture Garden is lovely, peaceful, with some impressive pieces to gaze at.
A very good gift shop loaded with all sorts of great stuff from bookmarks to pottery. This is backed up by their Cafe a la C'art next door in a restored 1865 house and rated in the top 10 museum restaurants in the US. Lovely patio/garden and good food - well worth a visit.
The Museum of Art is a must when visiting Tucson.

What a surprise! This is a comprehensive and extremely interesting museum. The variety of modern are mixed with native art shows a continuum of style.
