An amazing tribute to the sacrifice of the 390th Bomb Group. A true memorial to over 600 young airmen lost in combat and over 700 prisoners of war. Located inside Pima Air & Space this hangar is a separate museum that houses one airplane and a huge collection of other exhibits telling the story of the air war over Europe. From the second floor you get a great view of the B-17, a huge window overlooking the Air Force base and an entire wall of the hangar hung with photos of over 300 B-17 crews that flew into combat over Germany.

This museum advertises itself as a "memorial" museum, but in reality is just an airplane exhibit with many other nice adjunct exhibits. There is almost no focus on the men who flew and died in the 390th nor on the man who commanded them and built the place. There is a bank of panels with carved names, but little else to honor those young fellows who had their lives cut short in that war. Most visitors come and go without ever being aware of them at all. They should put the focus where it belongs if they want to call themselves a memorial museum. The B-17 is great to view and explore, but in the final analysis is just a machine. But well worth the visit, despite the shortcomings.

This museum was a complete surprise to us on a recent visit to the Pima Air Museum. It’s a wonderful facility dedicated to the 390th bomb group in WW2. Admission is included with your fee to the main Pima grounds. It’s in the middle of the Pima grounds (which is also a nice indoor break when it gets hot outside or you need a break from the walking outdoor portion of the Pima museum)

The volunteers are wonderful and amazingly educated. We heard so many stories. We were there when a B17 pilot was on site recounting his experience during the war. We hear about his experience piloting his bomber back to the Britain from Germany with 3 of 4 engines out, only to find his brakes were out of service when he made it back and he landed. Incredible story from a hero in honor of so many other hero’s in the group. Other volunteers told us about the b17 crew jackets and details behind the designs on second floor. We were also in awe looking at all the photos of the 390th b17 crews on the second floor. The photos seem like they went on forever. So many dedicated hero’s who served our country with the odds stacked against them.

This is definitely a must see museum within a museum. Great job to those volunteers and fantastic exhibits

This is an outstanding museum inside a museum. Independently run and supported largely by donations, this set of displays is much more focused and detailed than most of the rest of the Pima collection, and has a terrific trove of information and memorabilia for history buffs. Be sure to go upstairs and see the big diorama of what the 390th's base in England looked like, as well as lots of elements of what the day to day lives of these airmen and their support teams were like.

The volunteers who serve as docents here are extremely knowledgeable about the subject and will happily give you a great depth of information. This collection is a great complement to the Pima grounds - not nearly as diverse, but much more detailed. It would be a shame to visit Pima without spending at least half an hour in this hangar.

The 390th Memorial Museum of those who flew the B-17 in WWII is on the grounds of the Pima Air Museum and free but is not connected with the Pima Museum. They had a restored B-17 inside and memorials to all the crews who flew them. The staff was very friendly and informative.

This museum offers a deep dive into the 390th Bombardment Group which crewed hundreds of B-17 bombers in WWII.

The fate of individual B-17s and their crews, nose art, and leather bomber jackets are some of the exhibits you will see here.

It is free but they gladly accept donations; I was told none of the entry fees collected by the Pima Air & Space Museum are shared with this separate non-profit organization.

The Museum is part of the Pima Air and Space Museum which is one of the finest collections of aircraft in the country. It honors the veterans of the 390th Bomber Group of the Eighth Air Force during WWII who flew B-17s in bombing raids over Europe. The B-17 on display is a beautiful sight. Make sure you chat a bit with the volunteers who work in the exhibit who are filled with loads of knowledge about the history of the 390th and the B-17.

Wonderful museum and great tribute to the heroes of the 390th. The B-17 on display is terrific, of course -- and you can look inside to see how it was outfitted in combat. And there's lots of video (interviews with the vets) and memorabilia on the upper level. But the highlight for me was discussing the plane and WWII with the guys who volunteer to talk to us tourists and, especially, the kids who come through. Thanks -- and keep up the great work!

Take a look back in history of B-17 history. Dedicated to the 390th Bomb Group during WWII. Static plane display and lots of photo and video history. Located within the Pima Air Museum outside near the Static Plane Displays.

Everyone in the hangar was so helpful and knowledgeable. I was a pleasure to talk with them and hear all the interesting information they had to offer. Definitely a walk into the past and all the struggles that were had by many that sacrificed everything for our freedoms!
