This place is beautiful to visit in all seasons. Try mid-week to have solitude. Beautiful grounds, sculptures, gardens. House was interesting with a volunteer guide.

Stumbled upon this National Park driving down I-91 on a beautiful fall day. Augustus Saint-Gaudens [1848-1918] sculptor who embodied the ideals of the American Renaissance and works include Diana at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Lincoln The Man at Chicago’s Lincoln Park, and Robert Gould Shaw Memorial on Boston Common. He designed the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle gold piece [1907-1933] for the US Mint, which is considered the most beautiful coin ever minted.

Abraham Lincoln: The Man [shown, 1887] depicts the larger-than-life-size 12-foot bronze statue of a contemplative Lincoln rising from a chair, about to give a speech. It has been described as the most important sculpture of Lincoln from the 19th century. The original is in Lincoln Park in Chicago, re-castings of the statue are at Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, IL • Parque Lincoln in Mexico City • Parliament Square in London. A small copy of the bust is often on display at the Oval Office of the White House.

It is a beautiful historic site and art education center with a farmhouse, nature trails, and artist studio.

Spent between 1 to 2 hours here in late August.
Some buildings were open at that point (where there was art work in).
Did 2 trails:
1). Ravine Trail - up/down, can see temple without walking this trail if you continue on grass, pretty steep trail
2). Blow-Me-Down-Trail - little grassy, not too scenic, a piece of it is in the woods

Not very wheelchair friendly. The paths marked "accessible" are not continuous, so it is nearly impossible to get around. Also, many of the sculptures are accessible but not the paths to get to them. Very frustrating from a national park because there is so much to see that I couldn't get to!

This gem of a park is one of two National Parks in the US that are devoted to the visual arts. It contains the home and studio of Augustus Saint Gaudens, the premier American sculptor of the 1800s. The outdoors areas contain his large sculptures: The Admiral Farragut, the Adams Memorial, The Standing Lincoln and his spectacular memorrial to Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment. His studio and the atrium contain plasters, smaller sculptures, cameos and coins. The first floor of the home is as the family left it. There are formal gardens, as well as hiking trails. There is also an on site sculptor in residence to explain the process of sculpture. A beautiful place and a place worth stopping to see both the natural beauty as well as the beautiful works by this artist.

While recently visiting the Woodstock VT area from our home in Hawaii, we made a purposeful detour across the Windsor-Cornish wooden bridge and visited this National Historic Site - so glad we did. From the beautiful tree-lined approach and the warm greeting by the Docent, I sensed this would be memorable. The setting, the history, the art all served as the perfect components to enjoy our time spent here. We can only imagine how extra special it would be to come during the fall foliage season - one day we hope to return.

We had never heard of Saint-Gaudens until a few weeks ago --- so pleased that we made a detour in order to visit and admire this prolific and talented sculptor's work. I especially loved the sculptures of Lincoln and Farragut.

Currently visitors are allowed to walk the grounds of Saint-Gaudens NHS without entering the buildings. There are a few sculptures one the grounds that are interesting. The scenery is outstandingly beautiful. It was fun checking out animal “footprints” in the snow and mud.
