Our daughter has attended NAU from freshman to senior and there has been several issues I have had with the school.
Freshman year - When your child goes in as a freshman there are a lot of fees that you are forced to pay. For example we had to pay $1200 for a bus pass that she never used. When we inquired with billing if we could get it removed we were told to contact transportation and got the run around. Your child has to sign up for a meal plan which is very confusing to say the least. The meal plan is very very basic. For example at the bagel shop you just got a bagel and cream cheese. That was it, If you wanted extra it was an up charge and you had to use what they call dining dollars. Much of the time they were out of the basic meals so our daughter ended up using dining dollars or cash anyway. The student union was too noisy and crowded all the time and she did not feel comfortable going in. So the next options was the convivence type store call The Wedge which to be honest was more expensive than a convivence store. With the prices our daughter told us about I was shocked.
Sophomore year - Was actually not too bad. Her and her friend/roommate had a three person apartment type dorm with a kitchen. Her roommate ended up dropping out and she had an apartment to herself. It was kinda nice for her. One issue was maintenance not showing up in a timely manner and not fixing the issues correctly the first time. Another issue was when it came to end of year. When your child takes her last final they basically have 24 hours to pack up and get out of the dorms. We ended up paying extra for her to stay 2 days so we could go up and get her on a weekend so we would not have to miss work. Don't see what the issue was with staying until the weekend.
Junior Year - Our daughter had a single door. This was in one of the older buildings. The building itself was not very disability friendly with a lot of stairs. With a culture of inclusivity on campus I was surprised at that. As far as the room if you feel claustrophobic I would not recommend it. The room was tiny and it was crowded with three adults in there and had no extra room.
Senior year - Our daughter is doing study abroad and is not on the campus for her final year. The process and information she was given about study abroad was very limited if I am being honest with many key details being left out. Now while she is over there NAU is telling her she is several credits short to graduate and that she needed to take these classes. Well no one said anything about these classes freshman year, sophomore year, or junior year. Or even when she turned in her course equivalent information for the study abroad classes. She is messaging two different counselors and they seem to keep contradicting one another. Which lead to more worry and anxiety about graduating.
As a whole there is much that needs to be improved on by NAU.

Taught there for 20 years. I wouldn't send my worst enemies kids to NAU. Student's are always the last priority, except when it comes got bleeding them and their parents for every last penny they can.

We drove through the campus while visiting Flagstaff. Very beautiful, well maintained area. My son thinks he might like to go there.

We just happened into the university campus and could not believe how big it was! Amazed as a robot scooted along the sidewalk delivering food from a local restaraunt! Saw the original lumberjack that used to be on route 66 and now housed on the campus. Drive carefully as many students present and walkmen or earbuds distracting them from traffic.

It is a nice campus and city to visit for a college tour. There are plenty of restaurants to eat if you are there overnight and plenty of hotels
The campus ambassadors were nice and the schedule easy to follow. You get all the information you need. Definitely on the short list of colleges for my son

Set up a tour knowing little about the school but thought we should see it while in town. I was blown away. The range of academic departments is extensive, facilities are excellent, the view of the mountains spectacular, but what impressed me most was NAU's student-centered operation. As a parent, I'd like to see my child choose a school who cares about her well-being almost as much as I do!

My first trip back to NAU since I graduated 44 years ago! Lots of changes and lots of growth. There has been so much change that I hardly recognize a lot of it. The campus is impressive - definitely made me proud to be a Lumberjack!

We took a trip to Flagstaff to tour NAU as my son is starting college in the fall. We could not have been more impressed with the beauty of the campus, the amazing facilities and the wonderful educational experience he is going to receive. The class sizes are small, the students are friendly, the campus is clean and easy to navigate. Most importantly, every single person we met on campus and off in Flagstaff was wonderful, warm and inviting!! I love NAU and I love this town. So lucky my kiddo picked this awesome campus, so we get to go back over and over!!!!
