We were here to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's memorial. It's easy to find, go in the gate turn right and after a short walk it's on the left. Simple, uncluttered timeless style, I'm sure he would have approved.

I have been to several sprawling Victorian Cemeteries in the eastern part of our country, but Forest Lawn seemed like the largest yet. I visited on a rainy day. My friend suggested driving slowly through the grounds and stopping when I saw a monument that interested me. Like the proverbial child in a candy shop, I saw so many wonderful monuments that I wanted to photograph that I kept walking further and further into the grounds while my friend just parked and wondered when I would return to the car. The most impressive monument was the Blocher Mausoleum with it's four life size marble figures which was within the first area inside the entrance way. There are several other graves marked with life size or larger figures. There is an extensive section devoted to war dead from various American wars. There were several mausoleums and towering statues for a variety of groups such as firemen and members of the Elks. Unfortunately for me, it started raining again. So I was left to scan the site from our car. I'm not one who is as much interested in who is memorialized as to the work of art that marks their grave. Every direction I looked I saw something that attracted my attention. I do hope that I can return to this Garden of the Dead with its numerous sculptures sometime in the future.

The Blocher Mausoleum is amazing. Read about it before you go to enjoy it more. Also the Blue Sky Mausoleum designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is just around the corner. As well as President Millard Fillmore's final resting place. I wish we would have had more time to walk around and admire the great statuary and mausoleums.

A beautiful cemetery with lots of history and the final resting spot for many notable people. I wish I could have taken a tour and would recommend it if you have the time.

Forest Lawn is a well-maintained cemetery that includes famous memorials, "residents" and even wildlife. The memorial is an unusual mausoleum designed by Frank Llyod Wright with tombstones positioned horizontally on steps leading to a pond. The famous people who are buried here include President Millard Fillmore. There is a stream and grassy area and as closing time approached, herds of deer and flocks of geese emerged to walk the paths.

This is one of the finest and best maintained cemetaries in the state. I highly recommend the two hour tour. The tour covers all of the prominent citizens of Buffalo who are interned here and provides a fascinating glimpse into the past. The grounds are beautiful and it is a serene and lovely place to visit.

There is so many animals in this cemetery park as well. I saw deer, groundhogs, geese, squirrels, and more. There is a memorial designed by Frank LLoyd Wright as well. They have tours and other events. I highly recommend this place for a peaceful walk and nature watchers.

Despite being home to the Big Sky Mausoleum, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, this cemetery in the heart of Buffalo has a lot of history, unique art work and doubles as a nature preserve.

The cemetery has many famous people buried here including our 13th President, Millard Fillmore. Other famous people include businessman William Letchworth (had Glen Iris built which is cornerstone of Letchworth Park), Lewis Allen (uncle of President Grover Cleveland who is said to given spark to his career in politics and law), Lawrence Bell (founder of Bell Aircraft Corp), Irving Berlin's 1st wife Dorothy, Native American Ely Parker (President Grant made him 1st Commissioner of Indian Affairs), Dr Roswell Park (first surgeon to treat spinal bifida), Cyrus Lazelle Warner Eidlitz (designed One Time Square in NYC), civil rights pioneer Annie Singleton, America Pinckney Peter Williams (great grand daughter of Martha Washington and many more. The website give good directions to where can find the various famous graves.

The cemetery also contains numerous pieces of art along with 7 of the Bells of St. Joseph cathedral along with the iconic “Oishei Bell” which has been in place at Forest Lawn since 1975. These bells create the new “St. Joseph’s Carillon,” which is now rung each time a funeral. Along with the many unique and interestingly designed graves in the cemetery, many works of art by sculptures dot the landscape by the likes of Stanford White, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Harriet Frishmuth, E.B. Green, Richard Upjohn, N. Cantalamessa-Papotti, George Cary and Charles Cary Rumsey.

The beautiful grounds are also home to a nature preserve and I saw a lot of geese, ducks and 5 deer roaming around the area. The place also has guided tours and when Covid is licked, they will put the trolley tours back on the grounds.

The cemetery is really well kept and a beautiful place to experience history, nature and art.

This was one of the most awe inspiring cemeteries I have visited. The grounds are absolutely amazing with monuments and tombstones that marvel at every turn. Tours were suspended when I went but you can get a map upon entering that helps in conjunction with the cemetery app, indicating where notable burials are such as President Fillmore, Rick James, and the Seneca Chief, Red Jacket.
