Took the night ghost tour - loved it! Dave our guide has quite a lit of knowledge and was happy to share. Got into many rooms, although not all are renovated back to original, the layout is the same so you can still feel what it must have been like. Great tour, highly recommend.

During a weekend trip to Newport, my partner and I wanted to see a few mansions to compare. We saw the Breakers and then decided to try out the Belcourt for something different. I'm glad we did. The Belcourt hasn't been preserved in the same way the Breakers has over time. I found it fascinating to see a mansion with a different history and how the current owner is working to restore it. The tour guide was very knowledgable about the details of the house. I highly recommend this tour if you're looking for something 'different'.

Pro: plaster restoration of “wood” features; the dining room details; the quality of the restoration work: the sitting room walls. Massive fireplace in ball room. The quality of the work is interesting and skilled.
Given the history of the house as detailed in other reviews and the lack of furnishing context - more photos of past use would have been interesting. Only a couple of photos of use before the owner married were used and were interesting to view - so how it had changed or been used from original, to wife’s redesign, to the ghost house gothic would have added interest/context to the space.
Was also curious about the shift of the wife from Marble House to here. Such a difference in entertaining capacity. Room for some social context. Just seems like some interpretive info might be something to consider in the future.
Lots of work to be done still. But more interesting than I had anticipated. But would want more info as above to return.

I enjoyed the tour of this unique and offbeat castle. It’s decorated in a weird mix of Art Deco and old antiques, reflecting the taste of its two most recent owners. If you want something different than the typical gilded Vanderbilt Newport chateau, give Belcourt a shot. The upstairs rooms in particular are especially bizarre.

The only tour we did that had a tour guide and we really liked that aspect of it. He was very knowledgeable and quite funny. Home still needs some work done to make it like the others, but they are doing it and considering it sat abandoned for years it is absolutely stunning.

I first toured Belcourt 21 years ago and it immediately became my favorite Newport Mansion. We went again with company a week ago. I had thought the new owner was going to return it to its former splendor. I can't imagine the amount of money that has been spent. But she has decorated it with art deco furniture and posters. It look just awful! And completely detracts from the house. The furniture looks really cheap, although it probably isn't. The pictures you see online shows a huge room with stained glass etc. It's now chock full of art deco objects. Some neon. A strange older gas station pump. I'll never go back! Also they don't seem to limit the number of people on the tour. There were too many. Several rooms you could not all go into at once.

My daughters and visited several house/estates in the area but this one had us talking the most about. Tour guide was wonderful, full of information. While the house is not furnished as the other homes are, there are so many unexpected design elements that it are truly fascinating.

So we stopped here because we were very intrigued by the horse statues that we could see from the street when we got inside we found out it was a guided tour $20 a piece Although it was interesting to hear about the history of the house I feel most of the information is readily available online as well as pictures, our tour guide was friendly , while there were some beautiful aspects to the house it was very odd when he explained that the original furnishings were long gone and the owner currently is the founder of Alex and Ani jewelry and because she does not like the style of the furniture from that period of time instead the house is now oddly filled with art deco and midcentury mod furniture, schlitz bar signs and santa hats on statues. I felt as though I was in her personal house and the $20 tour fee was helping her refinish her home. Oh well I am happy that this historic home has not been torn down

Our tour guide, Mariette (sp?), was the best tour guide ever! She tied in Belcourt to the history of the other Newport mansions. She also pointed out so many facts about the restoration of the property which is unlike any of the other mansions I have toured. I look forward to touring again when as the retoration continues. The price is fair for a guided one hour tour.

This house is beautiful! It belonged to a Mr Belmont, son of the man for whom the Belmont Stakes is named. Note the horses in the front of the house. The current owner has really put a lot into renovations and allows tours of the house. Lots of history here!
