Once walk field with history. USS Utah Memorial on this path. Kids friendly trail and also will expand their knowledge of the past. You can walk it, bicke it, roller skate it...

I sort of stumbled onto this trail and boy am glad I did - it is amazing (to say the least)! Evidently it is new, and the interpretive panels along the way are still clean and in good condition. It is a loop trail that basically circles the outside of the island, so I don't think there is a particular starting point. I was at the Utah Memorial, so that is where I parked and started out. The trail is well marked with blue dots every ten feet or so, and there is no possible way to get lost. It's not a dirt path, so you're on pavement or concrete the whole time. The great things are the amazing sights, memorials, and other landmarks you'll pass by on this trail. To name some of them off the top of my head: the Utah Memorial, the Oklahoma Memorial, the Missouri Battleship, numerous anchors and artifacts (such as the ship's bell from the USS Monterey), strafing marks in the concrete from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and quite a few little plaques and markers along the way that commemorate the island's rich history. What I really like is that the interpretive panels not only commemorate and explain the island's military side, but there are also ones that tell about Hawaiian history and culture. Near the Utah Memorial is a large Hawaiian Star Compass which in my opinion is a must-see landmark. One aspect about the trail that I thought a bit odd is that it bypasses going near the Arizona memorial which is close to the island's shore. There are quite a few monuments near it. I believe the reason that it goes by this is that it goes through a residential neighborhood call Nob Hill, and I guess they don't want people walking through it. It is a beautiful neighborhood with magnificent banyan trees (and some other great trees as well that I don't know). I could understand this reason, but the trail goes through a few other residential areas so... I did veer off and went into Nob Hill and nobody tried to stop me. Then again, I'm a harmless old man that nobody wants to bother with. Walking the whole trail took me a little under three hours, so I recommend comfortable footwear instead of flip-flops (like I wore). Don't start late like I did (around 5 pm) as it got dark by the time I finished.
