The Lagoon was a short walk from the Grand Waikikian. There is generally plenty of room on the beach. The sand is quite clean, and does not have pebbles or coral or shell bits. The water temperature is cooler than the ocean. Swimming is easier than in crowded pool or ocean currents. The Lagoon changes dramatically in size, shrinking and expanding, during the day. The Lagoon rental booth has aqua bikes to rent for a trip around the
Lagoon- which is fun for an hour! The fellows at the Lagoon rental booth are just plain rude to customers, who are Hilton guests, by the way.

Such a pretty lagoon just off of the beach. Lots of birds wading along the shore and tons of fish in the water. A pretty pathway winds around the water and by the ocean.

It is true that the lagoon is about 10 degrees cooler than the adjacent ocean, and the sand is quite coarse. Your feet will get a nice exfoliation without beach shoes on! Free spa service :). My children and I enjoyed the protected quality of the lagoon, and If you are down in the evening, you can see and hear the starlight luau going on nearby on the lawn.
To hire any of the boards or non-motorized equipment, be prepared to shell out a LOT of money. A water bike is $70/hr.

This was my wife’s favorite relaxing place from our last trip, so we stayed nearby (Hilton Hawaiian Village) to ensure we were close enough for multiple visits.
The lagoon is man made and maintained by HHV, partially drained and cleaned every day and very clean. There are small fish that come by pretty close allowing for some very basic snorkeling. Water was clear and shallow at the edges making it a perfect and safe place for small lids and their worried parents.
You can rent beach chairs, paddle boards, and water bikes (although not cheaply) which add to the opportunities. Only feet from the beach and Pacific Ocean, families can do a little of both without packing up and moving.
There is a shrimp truck regularly in the adjacent parking lot and a nearby Dairy Queen/Orange Julius store is a big plus. Takeout adult beverages available a few minutes away at Tropicals too.
Great photo ops too with palm trees framing Diamond Head and Waikiki on the southeast side of the lagoon.

Heerlijk plekje met uitzicht op zee en toch iets meer de rust van een baai en prive omgeving. ALLES klopt hier gewoon.

This man-made lake, located by to the Hilton hotel, is a great place to relax. If you have children is ideal to let play in the water. There are plenty of activities to enjoy for all ages. You can even have a picnic in the grass area close by.

アラワイヨットハーバーとアラモアナ公園のマジックアイランドの間にあります。外海から切り離されているので波もなくとても静かです。アラワイヨットハーバーに係留されているヨットはこのラグーンから出ていきます。アウトリガーカヌーの練習地になっているようで土・日の朝になると学生たちがアウトリガーカヌーをこのラグーンに運んで外海に出ていきます。波がないのでとても平和的な空間ができています。

I read in reviews that there's not a lot of shade at the lagoon or nearby beach. Can we bring our own personal sun shades/shelters and umbrellas or must they be rented from the various vendors?

When we were there, the locals would bring pop up tents and umbrellas and set them up around one side of the lagoon closest to the car park. I believe that beach in front of the lagoon (Kahanamoku Beach) is public. There are also free fireworks here every friday night!

I think you possibly could up to a certain point, However, the closer you get to the water, the sand will shift under load, so I'm not sure if that would work. I have a feeling someone has tried it before, so maybe someone at the Hawaiian Village in the activities department can answer the question.
I am staying at an AirBnB right next door. Does anyone one know if I can pay a daily admission fee to use the lagoon?

The lagoon is free. No charge for public access, only if you want to rent any equipment or water toys.

Hi, I’m not sure on public drinking, but I did see gazebo/bbq big family gatherings parked up for the day there, just like being at a beach or park situation. Really nice there.

Yes you definitely can! It is shallow around the edges....obviously towards the middle it gets deeper but if you stick to the outer you’ll be right👍🏽
