Spent about 1 hour in late August.
The buildings were only able to be seen from the outside when there.
Did the Weir Pond Trail - pretty easy and nice walk, relatively flat, shady

If the buildings are fully open, you can spend more time there.

Just went last Thursday Oct 14. Grounds, house and facilities are available for everyone. Our park ranger was so knowledgeable and pleasant. Couldn’t have had a better day! Thanks.

Pretty ground and nice short pond trail. Facilities closed during covid, but grounds accesible. Worth a quick visit.

This farm is in a beautiful area of Connecticut and is run by the NPS. There are well kept grounds, a visitor center and a movie about the artist, the Weir home and two studios to see. The home tour took about 35 minutes and you see the lower level. Cory, our guide, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. This artist's home is well worth a stop.

My wife and I spent the morning at this National Park Historical Home on one our America’s great painters and his talented family. The grounds are well preserved and maintained. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. Free. Worth a visit.

Great to learn about how some of the artists created their work in the 19th and 20th century. Home is well preserved and showcases the very essence of simple living in nature away from big cities and towns! Great small and medium level hikes and scavenger hunt around. Studio tour with Park ranger educates you about the work by three families over the years and shows you a replica of the sculpture you will see in DC. Must visit with children to show One of only Two Art related National Parks in USA.

This is the only site in Connecticut run by the National Park Service - if you collect NPS stamps, bring your passport book! No charge to park or to tour the home (access to the house is only via tours led by a Park ranger or docent). Picnicing is allowed but it is a pack-in, pack-out site: there are not even trash containers available because if you bring it, you are supposed to carry it away again. Although there had been rain for several days before our visit we were able to walk the trail around the pond with very little problem. Really enjoyed the Secret Garden. The entire farm is definitely a hidden gem (hidden in more ways than one - GPS is definitely your friend in order to find the place).

I've driven by here for 50 years and last weekend my wife and I decided to stop.
We enjoyed the guided tour of the house and a chance to wander around the grounds. I'd encourage all locals to stop by and see for themselves.

Beautiful property, the tour of the house is short, but very interesting. Enjoyed visiting the studios, the docent was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Bring a picnic lunch.

Beautifully maintained national historic site focusing primarily on J. Alden Weir, an American impressionist painter who, as a founding member of The Ten, promoted American art, both at this farm and throughout the country. The tour is given by a Park Ranger who you can tell loves what she is doing and who fielded every question with aplomb that we threw at her. The site is pristine and includes two artists' studios, Mr. Weir's and another belonging to his son-in-law, Mahonri Young, famous in his own right. So many famous artists walked the grounds in yesteryear. There are lovely gardens and walking trails too. Plan on about 1-1/2 hours for the movie at the visitors' center, the house tour, a look through the studios, and a walk in the garden. If you're inclined to hike, obviously allow more time. The site is free, and there's ample parking. They're open seasonally, so check their web site for more info.
